Chapter 36: A Teaching from Susanoo

In the Palace of Storm and Thunder, a young man can be seen on the training fields with a middle-aged man in tow. The middle-aged man wore a loose robe patterned with lightning, and on his waist was a sheathed sword. The sword was sheathed, yet a powerful and menacing presence could be felt from it.

The young man, on the other hand, had his upper body bare. Contrary to his young and immature appearance, there was something unusual about him. Besides his abnormally toned body, scars could be seen on it too. These scars were evidence of previous grave injuries inflicted upon him by his own people, visibly present on his young body.

"You're thinking about everything too much," the middle-aged man said.

"You're overthinking it. That lightning of yours is not a container that you need to mold; that lightning is yours alone, connected and attached to your soul," he continued, then he gave a quick demonstration to his student.

He snapped his fingers, and from the very tip of his finger, a huge arc of lightning manifested. The blue, crackling lightning then began to change into the figure of a feline animal.

It was a tiger, and everything about the lightning tiger was so vivid that it felt like it was truly alive, not just a simple mold of lightning. Susanoo had full control over his own lightning, as he was also a God of Lightning. Raijin technically held that title, but when it came to true lightning, Raijin fell miles short in comparison to him.

"This is what I'm talking about. I imagined this; no, not imagined, but accepted this lightning as my own," he said in a teacherly tone.

"Compare this to you." Then he opened his palm and waited. In his mind, several thoughts were forming, like the shape of his lightning, the required output, the size, and the fuel it would need to manifest.

After thirty seconds, his lightning manifested in the shape of a tiger, the same one he generated earlier, but this time it was more lacking than the first one.

"You see the difference there? It took me a fraction of a second to create my desired construct using my method, the correct method, while it took a whole thirty seconds to manifest a construct using your method," he said to him.

"In a real fight, even a fraction of a second can determine the entire outcome of that fight."

It was true. Very true. In a real fight, each second is important, as each of those seconds offers thousands of potential outcomes. Marcus had fought opponents before that he could overpower through sheer force, but now, he was going to face enemies beyond anything considered normal; he was going to fight Gods themselves.

Winning through sheer force, as he did in the past, would not work. So now, he needed to learn how to control and harness the power he stole from the greatest weapon of the universe.

"I won't spoon-feed you everything. I will leave you to figure it out on your own," then he walked away from Marcus.

After walking a few steps away, his body transformed into lightning and disappeared, as if he had teleported through time and space itself. What Susanoo showed was an advanced way of controlling lightning, where you transform yourself into that very element and use it to either escape attacks, phase through physical attacks, or travel.

With that, Marcus was left to his own devices, pondering the words left to him by his new teacher.

"Ughhh, how am I supposed to do this?" he groaned, then he flicked his wrist and released a bolt from it, which struck the target in the training field.

'I can't just fling my attacks like I did back then. I need to learn to control and shape them into something more dangerous. I also need to learn how to harness the power of the Master Bolt,' he pondered to himself. Then he closed his eyes and started to probe his soul with his consciousness. Slowly, he felt a connection, but a millisecond later, the connection was cut.

"I'm starting to feel it," he said.

"But it's not quite there yet." Marcus once again tried it out, but this time it didn't show any result, so he decided to revisit it later.

'Oh right, is anyone wondering why I'm not attending school right now?'

It had been weeks since he last attended class, and surely, someone from his class would be wondering where he was, right?

He shrugged, then continued his training, this time focusing more on the physical aspect. He began doing extreme physical exercises, given that his body had long surpassed the capabilities of a normal person. Normal methods wouldn't yield any progress, so he started doing extreme training, like bench pressing a 5-ton rock or doing a thousand push-ups in one set without rest.

In the Kijin Academy,

"It's already been a week? Why is he not going to school?" Harumi said and groaned. She had been extremely worried for the past few days. She even talked to Headmaster Tenjin and asked the reason why Marcus wasn't showing up, but the Headmaster only said that he was somewhere taking care of something important.

"Headmaster said that he was taking care of something personally important. You know it's not our business to butt in," Taku responded. When Harumi heard that, she replied in a low voice.

"I know that…" She said while burying her head in her arms and pouting underneath.

"I know you are worried. I'm worried too. He's our benefactor. But it's not our right to interfere in his business, so we should just wait for him to get back," Taku said. He then lifted her head up gently and said with a smile.

"Come on, let's go out and eat something, like the old times," he said, and after a moment of hesitation, Harumi agreed.
