BIRTH OF A LEGEND

When the time came and Rhea started to get very big in the belly, she took a few deep breaths, composed herself and waddled through to the throne room.

'My lord Kronos,' She said 'I'm off to Crete. I will be back with the baby.'

'Crete?' Kronos scowled. 'Why Crete?'

'Um well.' Rhea said 'Koios and Phoebe prophesized that if I go to Crete, it will please you best of all and this child will be just like a Titan.'

Kronos frowned. He was suspicious but he thought hey I've eaten 5 kids and Rhea is still with me. If she was going to try something fishy she already would have done so.

Kronos allowed Rhea to go to Crete to do her 'business.'

Once she got there she was met by many helpful nymphs and satyrs that were made from the remains of Ouranos. She was brought to a safe, well-hidden cave on the base of Mount Ida. The nymphs stream ran down the side offering lots of freshwaters to drink and the bountiful forests allowed her to not have to worry about a lack of food.

======================================================

It was moonlit, the owls were humming and the valleys buzzing full of crickets. A blood-curdling scream reverberated for miles around. Many nymphs and satyrs were crowding at a single point.

'Push milady.' A beautiful young water nymph said. 'I can see his head.'

'It will all be over soon.' said a young wood nymph, who was squeezing the hand of the women on the floor.

'Thank you, Neda.' whispered the women giving birth.

Many more cries washed through the surroundings as did many people comfort the women giving birth. Eventually, the shouts of pain died down and another figure smaller than the rest emerged.

''It's a healthy baby boy" voiced Neda. "What shall you name him Lady Rhea?"

The newly identified Rhea declared his name to be Zeus. Translation from Greek could either be Living, Sky or shining.

Zeus had long curly black hair and piercing blue eyes that reflected the skies from above. He had an aura that left many marvelled, lightning boomed across as if signalling the birth of a king. However, Rhea wasn't finished her screams started reforming and yet again she was in labour for the second time of the day. 'This wasn't supposed to happen I was only supposed to have one child, not two.'

This time around the baby was much more stubborn and took hours until it came out. When it did the child was a boy much bigger than the first child with tufts of black hair with red streaks parting in the middle and onyx black eyes that held no emotions and extreme intellect. Unlike the first child, he did not cry, he laid there in his mother's arm enjoying the warm embrace.

To think Zeus was strong for a baby would be a mistake, power radiated from this baby in tremendous waves. Trees were uprooted from their roots and a harsh gaze of wind blew in the distance. At first, Rhea was stumped on what she should name this child however after that display of raw power and potential, a single name reached her mind, Dunamis the literal meaning of power, ability and great potential.

Baby Zeus was frightened of his brother's exhibit of strength that he started to cry so loud that every Titan and their mother heard.

'Great I promised I would give the children straight to Kronos immediately.' Rhea thought worriedly.

Suddenly, a rock formed from the ground in the exact shape of Zeus. Rhea wasn't stupid, she knew this was a gift from Gaea - her mother. A plan started to formulate in her mind she decided she would leave her two children on Crete under the care of the Satyrs and Nymphs and she would feed the rock to Kronos and hope he buys it. Due to the fact that Dunamis didn't wail, hopefully, he wouldn't know that she bore twins.

Thus with this plan in mind, Rhea travelled back to Mt. Orthys, As she arrived in the throne room she sluggishly walked through carrying the rock disguised in a bundle of cloth. Nervousness started to bubble up inside Rhea each step made her heart beat faster, she knew if she faltered her plan would go to pieces and Kronos would kill her as well as her twins on Crete.

Rhea marched right up to king cannibal and caught the attention of Kronos's eyes.

"This is my best baby yet my lord." She spoke.

Kronos looked at the size of the 'child' and instantly knew it was yet another god. Consumed by anger he picked up the child and swallowed it whole. Rhea was relieved that her plan worked as she was dripping with sweat due to the anxiety. However, she had to play her final part.

Rhea scowled at her husband in vicious anger. "You vile creature I shall not bear any more of you children, you belong in Tartarus, you sick cannibal."

Kronos was surprised by the sudden uprise. Taken by surprise that someone spoke back to him but before he could make sense of the situation Rhea ran out of the throne room screaming. However, Kronos was relieved at the same time saddened due to the fact that he was fully convinced that he has thwarted Ouranos's curse. He was the king of the cosmos and could never be overthrown.

Rhea visited Crete as much as she could. Zeus and Dunamis were fed many stories on how horrible their father was in hopes that this in turn would nurture them to seek revenge for Rhea and their still undigested siblings stuck in Kronos's gut. Hopefully, one day there would be a Father-Son smackdown that would send the universe into a new era.

(Edit: 22/2/22 - Minor Grammar changes.)

Again thanks for taking time out of your day to read this, it's very much appreciated.

What should I Change? What should I do now?

Should I send Dunamis to infiltrate Mt Orthys or should I keep him at Mount Ida until the war?
