You try to change the subject. "Did you really use magic to muffle the sirens' song?" you ask her curiously.

"Of course," she replies, "how else would we still be alive?" Her smile shifts a bit, gaining a mysterious quality. Her eyes grow hooded, as if she is thinking of something only she knows about. Suspicious…or you've just become paranoid. That's also a distinct possibility. After everything that's happened, who would blame you?

"So as soon as you heard it, you cast the spell to protect yourself?"

"Mmm. I was asleep when it began, so that must have helped me to resist it at the beginning too."

You frown at her words. Asleep? Through all the racket that was going on? Roaring winds, the barge crashing against something—she slept through all of that?

"I'm a heavy sleeper. Also, I use medicinal tea to help me relax. It knocks me right out," she answers your unasked question. Huh.

"Well, thank you for your help, Daelynn. You saved everyone's life. We all owe you a debt."

That seems to pique her interest. She leans even closer to you, this time definitely invading your personal space. Her shiny hair falls over her shoulder with the motion, its color as deep as burnished gold.
