The words spilled out of the matron's mouth. The woman stood with a straight posture that surprised Hibba, given her age. She was tall, with brown eyes and long hair draped at her back.
"You will learn how to be a proper one."
Hibba was shocked as she realized the grim fate that awaited her. She was truly the "pearl" that Maji spoke of – a gift for rulers. A courtesan. Determination welled up within her; she refused to shed any more tears. She would endure and survive, vowing to see the end of this nightmare. At the first opportunity, she would seize her chance and escape. She had made a promise to find her sister, and together, they would return home, to xaria.
