Chapter 2 - The sun

I can't remember the last time I saw sun.

It's a beautiful sight though.

The men who found me where certainly confused. They helped me to my feet and carried me to their tent. They told me they were archaeologists and they were digging up ruins from the early 17th century. They were nice people but they wanted answers too.

"Who are you?" A broad man had asked me, he had a rough voice. He had grown out his charcoal, black hair and tied it back in a small ponytail with bangs covering his eyes.

"How long have you been down there?" Another guy asked, he was smaller than most of the others, his hair was a platinum blond, he was fortunate to have beautiful emerald eyes. His hair framed his face perfectly.

I answered all their questions. Dodging some of the truth. I hate to lie but it was necessary.

"My name is Miss Katherine Mary James," I started and thought about the next question. "I don't know how long I've been down there. I must've gotten stuck, I can't quite remember." I used the excuse of amnesia so I didn't have to come up with a full storyline. The men were very sympathetic and offered to take me to the city. There I could maybe find a job, make a living for myself.

I thanked them and told them I am in their debt. I offered to help them with their discovery as payment. They were happy with this but also hesitant about letting a child walk around a old, collapsing tomb. I assured them it was fine.

I stayed with the men for a month until their exposition was coming to an end. I made some good friends. There was one woman there, her name was Abby. She was a strong leader, stubborn and determined. She had a slight temper so it was hard to converse with her at

first but we eventually took a liking to each other.

She often said stuff to me like, "us girls gotta stick together!". What did that mean?

I took a natural liking to Oscar and Jaime. Oscar was the large man with long black hair who I met at the beginning. The male had the appearance of a tough best like man. He was actually very kindly, and polite. His strength was outstanding.

Jamie was quiet, he didn't say much so he annoyed me less. I took a liking to him a bit later on than the others but he was most certainly the mysterious type. He was the fortunate soul who had platinum blonde locks and green orbs.

They were good socialist that helped me recover. I almost forgot about my darkest secret because of them.

Finally, it was time to make our way to the city. I didn't know what to expect, I felt awkward asking everyone what the date was. Especially what year.

We got to the city using this mechanic carriage. Where were the horses? Was this some sort of sorcery?

I sat in the front with Abby, who was holding onto a rounded stick. I didn't have one? Is that how you operate the mechanic? Again I didn't ask, just in case she got suspicious of my words.

The journey was filled with lively discussion and fun topics. The group knew how to make each other laugh. I've never felt such a feeling before I was captivated.

Suddenly the topic of myself was introduced, "so Kate?" Abby leaned in near me while still keeping her view on the path in front of us, "where do you think you'll be staying? Got any ideas for a job?"

Why is she so interested? It's not like she's my mother or anything?

"Why do you ask?"

"Just trying to converse with you is all" she nervously laughed, I guess I can be honest here.

"I don't have a job and I'm hoping I can get one and earn enough money to at least stay at an Inn for a while"

"Haha!" She laughed, it's as if she had something planned for me... something evil! "Well you're in luck! My uncle is starting his own restaurant he needs a few waiters you want me to get you an interview?" That was nice of her, but still why? We've only known each other for a couple of months.

"I look forward to it, you have my thanks Abby." I nodded to her and she laughed again, nudging my arm a bit.

"Your so proper Kate, do you come from a wealthy family or something?"

Ah. So that's what it is.

"Not at all!" I reassured the blonde-haired woman.

That reminds me, "Abby! where do you plan of going once we arrive at the city?"

She looked at me with a strong smile, curling onto her lips. "Well I'll be with you, I went on this exposition to collect money for my uncle's restaurant. I'm the bar-tenter there."

How annoying. I guess just Abby is fine, as long as I'm not around the whole group until the end of time.

"Oh yeah this whole group is a usual there do you'll be able to see us again!" She wrapped her arm around my shoulder still controlling the mechanical vehicle, her sight away from my annoyed features.

Just my luck.

Arriving at the city was definitely an experience. The houses were stretched over 300 meters tall! Windows scattered throughout the whole place. People covered the streets, everyone was wearing such extravagant clothing. Mechanical Vehicles, similar to one Abby controlled, was all over the roads and people tried there best to avoid them. It was so loud. There were so many scents that mixed together created a world of smells, it was all too much for my nose to take.

I remember the hassle of trying to find Abby's Uncle's restaurant. But we eventually located it and it was actually decent for such a small thing, perched on the corner of a very quiet area.

I just hope that I can fit in well and I shall try to do my best!
