Chapter 497: Free to roam

Luna watched the unconscious shard with concern. Aaron had been dead out for the last few hours. And with the sun's light fast slipping away from the room, she grew tenser. The questions that kept reappearing in her mind added to it, making her restless. She wanted nothing more than to shake him awake.

Yet she didn't dare to move from her place beside the window. The goddess knew that it would do her no good to act concerned for him. No one would believe her. Not after what the maid had witnessed. She could feel the animosity of the guards standing at the other end of the room, the pair of men glaring daggers from the doorway.

At least Caliban seemed to be calm, she thought, turning her eyes toward him. The lord of the manor had his back to her. Yet, she could see that his shoulders were relaxed as he sat by his brother's bed on a cushioned chair, his head turned towards the maids who stood on the other side of the king-sized furniture.
