Zack's POV
Zack felt sick to his stomach as he waded through the yellow river with all his strength. He could feel the water pull him from different directions, trying to draw him into its depths. But he kept at it, though by the time that he reached the shore, he was huffing and panting.
It was not that he was weak. But he hadn't slept a wink in the last twenty-four hours, and Lloyd had appeared and slung him into the stream by the pack house before he could even react. And when he emerged, he was in a different part of the world. The kelpie had let go of his hand as soon as they surfaced in the river, leaving him alone to fend for himself while he smoothly swam to the shore.
If the damn kelpie hadn't told him that he'd send him to Zhashui in the blink of an eye, he wouldn't have followed him, Zack thought as he lay on the shore with his face towards the sky. A head full of gray hair and a mischievously twinkling green pair of eyes appeared above him.
