Soft steps had their sound echoed by the hollow tunnel. The soft , squelching sound of the mud under his boots sent chills down his spine.Nox trudged through the streets on his way back from the factory. The standing reminder of his pitiful existence.
'Why even try to live...' Nox thought 'anything that's ours is stolen anyway , its like we don't exist,'
Nox was not your average boy. From the age of 6 he had been forced into poor working conditions in order to be an "asset" to the government. He had stolen, beat up and even exploited the sympathy of others. He didn't like it but what would being a hero do now?
Now at the age of 16 , life had not become much better.
Crime was a sport at this point with many vying to solidify themselves as "rich" and "not in need of the government".
Nox didn't like seeing these types of delusion. It was honestly comedic at this point.Nox would have laughed if it didn't disgust him.
Out of the corner of his eye he spotted a hunchback woman carrying an infant child carelessly. The woman looked very old and the child couldn't have been more than 4.And here it was , wailing softly as if it was too tired to properly shout for help.
'This can't be good,' Nox thought
Nox knew the child. It was his neighbours. Not that he cared enough to know much more about its existence.
Nox approached them slowly and spoke in a serious tone.
'what are you planning to do with him?,'
The woman looked up at him , startled.
'as you can see I'm taking him to a doctor or the nearest person with a healing philosophy,'
With the way that she spoke you would have believed her. However , Nox wasn't buying it.He walked right in front of her path.He was careful so as to not trigger the people sleeping nearby and cause a ruckus.
'DO YOU WANT THE CHILD TO DIE!!!' She screamed as Nox refused to let her pass.
'no , I want it to live ,' Nox replied calmly
'THEN MOVE YOU DUMBASS!'
Without moving he said sharply 'Its because I want it to live that I cannot leave,'
The woman smirked.Nox grew cautious.
'Then I guess force is necessary,'
Nox was sent blasting toward a concrete wall by an unknown force. The force alone should have broken his ribs but he was surprisingly still able to stand.
'This must be her philosophy,'
'My grandfather told me about you once,' Nox said 'I never thought id meet you Velra the exploiter,'
The woman winced painfully as she looked at Nox.
'I suppose that old man is still kicking eh?' She said these words as if they were a curse or a slur.
'Why are you doing this?' Nox said.
'Because if I bring the enforcers a child they said i'll be allowed paradise,' she said coldly.
'AND YOU BELIEVED SUCH AN OBVIOUS LIE!!!!' Nox shouted in disbelief
'I HAVE NO CHOICE!' tears began to stream down from her face. 'I dont want to go to hell , NOT AFTER WHAT IVE DONE!!'
She looked at Nox one final time as she ran.As if to say 'ill see you on the flip side,'
'thats another one I've failed to help,''Nox thought to himself. 'frick this damn world,'
