"Oh?" Chrome opened up the scroll once more to find that another segment had been added to each of his abilities just like the quill had stated.
The Self Reliance Point that he had just gained was also right above them as if to state the amount of money that he could spend on the new change!
"Go ahead and explain this modification function then."
[ The Palace Master can use the scroll's functions to modify and enhance his abilities up to a certain limit depending on its base level. The degree of enhancement is additionally dependent on the amount of Self Reliance Points invested. ]
"Is there a hard limit up to which I can evolve these abilities? Is this why [Basic Lightning] only shows question marks?"
Most of what the quill stated was something that Chrome already grasped by checking the scroll. The fact that he could actually enhance his energy ability already opened up so many possibilities, but his expectations had grown beyond just that.
[ Negative. The scroll's modification function has no known limits at the moment. It's only restricted by the number of SRPs that the Palace Master has possession of. As the contrast between the required amount and the 1 SRP you currently have is quite high, the true cost has been withheld. ]
'Is that to prevent the depression that would come with the realization of how poor I am? What a considerate scroll…'
"What about [Basic Energy Emission] then? Can you explain the effect of this 'Basic Enhancement'?" Getting answers only made Chrome curious for more. He was the type that grew more invested in the little details just like he spent a few minutes inspecting the candy machine.
[ Negative. [Basic Energy Emission] is the base ability of all mutated humans, the degree of modification that the 'Basic Enhancement' would provide differs for each of them. The only way to know is for the Palace Master to try it out once. ]
"In that case, how do I invest my SRP into the ability?" Chrome didn't hesitate to ask for guidance as he decided to follow the quill's instructions. Although this 1 SRP was all he currently had, using it was the only way to understand the real value that it had. Rather than ignorantly hoarding it, it was better to experiment with it for the sake of information!
[ There is a roller pen on the ground that the original ribbon tying the scroll had turned into. The Palace Master can use it personally to inscribe the number of points you want to invest next to the plus within the parentheses. ]
Chrome looked down to find a black pen in place of the ribbon he threw away, picking it up, he turned to the quill in confusion, "How does my ability actually work to manifest all of these things and transform them just like that? Why do I need to use an actual pen instead of you or I mentally adding the number?"
[ The origin of the ability is something that the Palace Master can only find on his own with time. The requirements to physically operate the scroll or the machine is just a temporary medium presented for the sake of assisting with the handling of your abilities. You should be able to break through these restrictions as you further adapt to them. ]
"I see…" Asking for a clear explanation seemed to be a bit of a stretch considering his situation. Let alone how his actual ability worked, Chrome didn't even know how he got here, whether he was physically present or if this was just his mind's perspective.
Holding the scroll to add a one inside the parentheses, Chrome stared at the number formed despite the lack of an ink container, similar to how the quill worked. However, before he even got to inspect it, the number only lasted for a few seconds before blurring into nothingness, resulting in a blur that covered the whole [Basic Energy Emission] section.

Looking at the state that the ability had changed to, Chrome remained speechless for a whole minute, blinking several times to make sure he didn't see it wrong.
'Not only a one point increase in Exos Capacity rating, but also a growth of 0.05 points in emission rate?!'
It was worth remembering once more that Chrome's Exos Capacity would only increase by half a point over the passing of 365 days. Just now, however, using only 10 energy points that had been lazily lying inside his body till today, he had somehow managed to increase it by a whole point!
The growth of the Emission rate didn't seem like much, nor did Chrome measure it before today. Even then, he still understood its importance as it was the main determinant factor behind the future gain of these miraculous SRPs!
'At this rate… I can at least obtain one piece of candy per day. If the cost rate remained static… I can actually increase my stagnant Exos Capacity by 1 point per day!'
Chrome's heartbeat only accelerated further as he did some simple calculations. Compared to his old increase rate, his new Exos Capacity growth speed would increase by 730 times if he converted all of his energy to points!
'Shedding away this 'Ordinary' title of mine… Doesn't seem impossible anymore!'
If he were to only obtain [Basic Lightning], Chrome would have still remained a cripple of some sort if he still couldn't use it with a matching great capacity. In the world of Extras, Exos ratings were still the main highlight…
"What is the reason behind this cooldown on the usage of 'Basic Enhancement? Does this limit stay the same over time?" Reigning in his excitement, Chrome asked as he considered the near future.
Although the current him could barely produce one piece of candy per day, the Emission rate increase that accompanied his capacity growth gave promises of the day when he would come to receive two pieces or more! An increase of 1 point per day was already enough, but Chrome knew that he needed to do more in order to catch up with the others' head start.
[ The cooldown is instated so that the Palace Master's body has enough time to adapt to the changes administered by the Self Reliance Palace. The cooldown will still exist, but it will change in either direction as the rank of the ability increases, the same applies to the modification cost as well. ]
'In this case, I might be able to…'
Chrome deeply pondered on the quill's words. According to the Teacher's words, every student of the special class had the right to join the Extra Academy's admission test as long as they awakened their Superpower. While still unsure of how he would fare, Chrome felt that he now stood a chance. Perhaps he could really give it a try…
"Alright, thanks for the helpful explanations… Quill? Can you tell me how I can actually get out of here now that we are done with the Introductory Tutorial?"
