Chapter 6–Falling slowly

Ella's POV:

I get home from work completely stressed out and hungry so I prepare myself a plate of noodles, omelette and balance the unhealthy combo with a glass of homemade Apple juice. I start to dig into my food and notice my wonderful cooking abilities which I just newly discovered.

I clear up my plate, get myself a duvet from my room and head to the sitting room to watch a movie on Netflix and settle for The Fault In Our Star. Although I would have watched it in my room to save myself the stress of dragging the large duvet from my room I prefer the sound effects and the bigger size of the display compared to the Tv in my room.

After an hour and some minutes, the movie finally comes to an end and I pick up the last wipe from the box to dry up my tears and then notice the number of used wipes laying everywhere on the floor. I can't believe I finished a medium-sized box of wipes just for one movie. Guess who is an emotional wreck? Me.

I clear up the mess, switch off the Tv and head to bed.

Finally, it's Friday and we have a lot of customers trooping in and out every minute. Today's work is tedious and I can't wait to go and rest before I prepare for my date with Frederick. He better not think this will lead somewhere because I'm just having fun. I know I sound like a terrible person and I'm trying to hurt other people like my parents did by throwing me off but there's nothing I can do about it.

Seriously, I can't believe the delivery guy just called in sick today of all days, can this day get any worse?.

He didn't look sick yesterday, maybe he caught the flu. Now I have to deliver the outfit to our customers and my feet hurts already from this killer six-inch heels. I grab my keys, the outfits to be delivered with a tag on them that indicates the delivery location in and dash out to begin delivery.

It's past five, and one more delivery is left. How can someone order his /her outfit by this time on a Friday and Frederick will be picking me up soon I mean some customers are just too selfish. How do they expect someone to be working by this time on a Friday? I sigh frustrated.

On my way to delivering the last package, I pick up the box to view the details on it, just to see there is no name on the tag attached to It. It shows details of a location in Eko Atlantic and the client's mobile number. This delivery guys sickness must have started yesterday. I just didn't take note. How do we deliver an outfit without knowing who we are delivering it to, it just shows incompetence. I can't just call the boss to confirm the name because that delivery guy will probably be getting his sack letter tomorrow.

I enter the location on the GPS and start driving towards the direction indicated. I stop in front of a tall building and carry out the last outfit for delivery and check the time to see it's past six. Crap!!!! I dial the number on the package and wait for a reply.

"Hello, Jade Brown speaking. Who is this?"

"It is Ella Adeoye, I'm currently at your house to deliver your outfit. The delivery guy called in sick this morning. Is there someone I can drop it with?"

"Give me a few minutes I'll be there very soon."

It's twenty minutes past seven and still no sign of Jade. I send a quick text to Frederick apologising and explaining to him how the delivery guy called in sick and how I am the one doing the deliveries today. I adjust my sit to a resting position and wait for Jade's arrival not knowing when I fall asleep.

I open my eyes and find someone sitting in my car staring at me and I quickly throw a punch right in his face to defend myself before I notice it's Jade.

"Ella! Are you trying to get me killed?

Where in the world did you learn how to throw such a punch."

"I'm so sorry. Your nose is bleeding. I didn't mean it, I'm sorry. You sneaked up on me and I was trying to defend myself. I'm sorry. It's just growing up at the rough side of town, one had to learn how to defend yourself."

"When I arrived I saw your car and I was expecting you to come out but there was no sign of you. So I called your cellphone but it was going straight to voicemail. I couldn't see the inside of your car because of the tinted glass so I opened your door to confirm you were good and saw you fast asleep and your car door was unlocked.

"It's all your fault I fell asleep. Is this your few minutes and don't tell me you've been here since because I was still awake by past seven? I should have known you were not a man of your words. "

"Are you kidding me? Do you expect me to fly traffic because I wanted to keep to time?

"I got here by past eight to find you sleeping and I didn't want to wake you up because you looked stressed out but I guess my good deed backfired. Sorry. I didn't want to disturb you because you were stressed and thanks for the broken nose."

"I'm sorry please come back let me treat that for you. I didn't mean it like that I'm sorry." I quickly run after him and try to catch up with him due to his long strides.

He slides a card through what I suspect to be a security check-in thing and the door opens. The smell of polished wood hit my nose. Jade sure had a high taste. The interior design of the house was spectacular and sleek.

"Please where is your first aid box let me at least treat that for you. It's still bleeding and your shirt is stained. "

"Let me get it. it's in my bathroom I'll be back. "

I plug my phone with Jade's iPhone charger and when it comes on, I see a lot of messages and missed calls from Frederick, a few calls from my boss and two from Jade.

I dial Fredericks number, it rings for a while and goes off so I drop a voice message for him

"Frederick I'm sorry I couldn't make It. I'll make it up to you the customer who was supposed to get the last delivery delayed and I couldn't reach you because my phone went off. Please call me back when you get my message. Have a lovely night rest. "
