"Good evening father" Avril waved, going over to the desk where Johnson Mills was seated on a seat, he let out a big smile exposing his perfect set of well arranged white teeth, on sighting her.
He got up from his seat, spreading his arms out for an embrace which Avril accepted and smiled like a kid while cuddling him.
The embrace was an affectionate one as he rubbed her back softly. Ariel stood lamely, watching the both of them with a broken heart.
She didn't know what a fatherly hug was because she has never had a real one with her father. Not even once in her entire life!.
It was so unfair.
Ariel watched the scene the two were displaying quietly, her eyes were red and puffy caused by the stubborn tears welling up in her eyes and refusing to go.
Life was so unfair.
"I brought Carter with me, father" Avril broke the embrace, moving back to the door and brought Carter in.
She brushed her body past Ariel who stood dumbfounded in the room, but ignored her presence as if she wasn't there.
Ariel, who was lost in thoughts about how the world was unfair and how life was treating her, got roused from her thoughts the moment she heard Carter's name.
Her eyes widened.
"Good evening Alpha Mills" Carter waved to Johnson Mills as soon as he got dragged into the room by Avril. Johnson Mills walked closer to him and pulled him in for a hug.
"Call me father, son" He tapped the top of his shoulder twice while hugging him, Carter smiled and broke the embrace.
Ariel stood helplessly, watching them exchanging pleasantries before her as if she wasn't in their midst. Was she invisible? Or were they ignoring her deliberately?.
She just couldn't tell.
Carter set himself free from the embrace, moving back and almost stumbled when he bumped into Ariel. Ariel let out a muffled wail when he stepped on her toes mistakenly.
He was so huge and almost crushed her precious tiny toes to pieces.
"Ouch" She wailed in anguish, reaching down for her toes, he stepped on her toes mistakenly but the pain striked within her entire body with intense force.
"Sorry, didn't see you there" He turned, facing Ariel and tried reaching down for her toes, but got stopped by Avril.
'Didn't see you there?' Ariel's brows arched questionly. Did he really not observe that she was also in the room?. That can't be true, she was in the center of the room so who wouldn't notice her standing there? Unless they were blind?.
"She deserves that, '' Avril uttered ridiculously, dragging Carter by the arm and stopping him from touching Ariel's toes. Ariel rubbed her toes softly while glaring at Avril as she said that. Avril only sneered cruelly at her.
"So how's everything going? ''Johnson Mills asked Avril, walking over to his seat and settled down on it. Avril followed suit along with Carter and stopped in front of his desk.
"The preparations for our mating ceremony tomorrow are all set father" Avril giggled, she was so excited about her mating ceremony tomorrow. She was finally going to be the alpha's luna.
"I'm so proud of you Avril" he smiled and rolled his eyes over to Ariel standing and keeping mute. He could see the disappointment written all over her face.
"So how's your father Carter?" He threw the next question over to Carter, shifting his attention over to his. He caught him stealing a shifty glance from Ariel who looked kind of lost in the midst of them.
"He's fine alpha Mills, sorry father" Carter scratched his hair in disarray, he was stealing a sneaky glance from Ariel before Johnson Mills drew his attention over to his.
"He wanted to come over today to meet you, against our mating ceremony tomorrow but he got caught up with work" Carter pulled Avril closer to him, intertwining his fingers together with hers.
Avril giggled amusingly.
Ariel couldn't stay and watch any of them anymore, the sight of them all, irked her. Watching Carter lock fingers with Avril irked her the most so she wanted to leave. She felt so left out among their midst.
So leaving was better than staying.
She stood erect, straightened her shoulders and lifted her chin. "I will be leaving" Avril announced firmly, her tone was hard.
With the way she spoked, it didn't seem like she was actually crying a few minutes ago and that did the magic. All eyes in the room fell on her the moment she announced she was leaving.
So she was really visible, just that they were ignoring her on purpose.
"Before you leave" She heard her father's voice behind, as she was withdrawing from his room so she stopped and turned.
"You need to hear the words from Carter's mouth so you would actually get back to your senses" She heard him say, while moving closer to them.
Ariel fractured her brain intently, trying to understand what he meant by that statement.
"What do you mean father?" Ariel asked, purposely coming in between Carter and Avril whose hands were still intertwined between each other, separating them.
Ariel smiled inwardly, proud of what she did. Avril glared fiercely at her but Ariel didn't give a damn, that serves her right for stopping Carter from rubbing her toes.
Who knows if he rubbed her toes then, the pain might have rubbed off swiftly?.
Johnson Mills got on his two feets, staring at Ariel locking eyes with him bravely without blinking. The girl was starting to get brave. The Ariel he knew before, wouldn't try such.
She was such a scaredy-cat.
"Carter," He called.
"Yes father," Carter responded.
"Ariel over here says you love her" He pointed at Ariel. Ariel could feel her heart skip a beat caused by what her father said.
"I need you to tell her face to face the truth so she could actually free herself from the lies she has been telling herself" He pouted his lips outwardly and smirked.
Ariel ignored her father's smirking and turned over to Carter, grabbing his two hands. Avril tried taking Ariel's hands off Carter's but her father stopped her.
"Carter, I need you to look me in the eyes and prove them all wrong" Ariel smiled brightly, looking Carter in the eyes without blinking.
He was going to say it, he was finally going to say he loves her infront of Avril and her father so she could prove them all wrong.
Carter shouldn't let her down by saying no because if he does that, Avril's going to own everything. Her father's love, a mate and also Carter's Luna.
Carter brought Ariel's hands off his slowly, while Ariel shook her head in disbelief, mumbling an inaudible 'no'. She knew what was going to happen.
"I'm so sorry Ariel" He said and paused, "but Avril's the one I love". Ariel felt her world crumble and turn dark as she collapsed.
