Chapter 10 - That

'The darkness element, this is good news.'

Carl was happy, but then he remembered something.

He walked towards the stool that Aaron Deer had sat on and grabbed the business card that the beautiful blonde girl left a while ago.

'Hm? What was her business I guess? She said she wasn't a part of the Mage Association from what I remember. I forgot about it for a second, but Aaron obviously did not want me to see this while he was talking.'

Carl couldn't help but be curious about it at the time.

"Let's see, hm?" Carl couldn't help but internally chuckle, when he read the contents, 'Cath Artist, Assistant Manager of GOLDEN KNIGHTS SQUAD (G.K.S.) Front Office.'

His tongue got tied for a minute. The muscles on his face started to relax. Thinking about how sorry of a start he have in this world and now this? Carl couldn't help but feel a throbbing in his heart as his heartbeat increased its pace.

After figuring out where he seemed to actually stand, the corners of his chubby face then slowly rose up and his eyes shone with stars.

Golden Knights Squad, GKS in short, was a Mage Club.

This is a big deal.

The Mage Association was in-charge of all mages in this world and it was primarily their job to secure jobs for mages and dispatch mages to different parts of the world and in different areas of society; from national defense, mission raids, operation and rescues, and even construction.

But they overlook one more massive cluster of big groups, the Mage Clubs.

These clubs were private companies basically but they also trains, develops, and signs mages with a wage, duties, and responsibilities. Like the Mage Association, their job was pretty similar, only that it was all private.

GKS was one of the biggest clubs in the world, with top-tier service ranking worldwide at number 3.

They have over a hundred active rank 1 mages, twenty rank 2 mages, ten rank 3, and three rank 4 in their ranks. The sheer size and power of GKS even rivals even the biggest countries in the world, and actually earns more in revenue annually.

Carl called this world more advanced by his former world, and clubs were a massive part on that.

Carl could now understand why Aaron did not want him to see this.

'So it was GKS who were around just as I passed out.' He thought as he remembered the sudden presence in the underground city just as he passed out. The fog in his mind had diminished and the writings on the walls of his mind turned vivid.

'Why would they reach out to me?'

Carl felt that they won't be asking the same questions as the MA, so there should only be one answer.

'They intend to recruit me?'

Just like the MA, clubs normally absorb their talents from Mage Academies, but at times, they could also go the unorthodox way. They could get someone from overseas, from a tribe, a homeless guy on the street, as long as they seemed worthy of a position in their ranks.

Carl wiped the grin on his face.

'It seems like I won't have to worry about River Mage Academy for now.'

Carl intended to focus on his school matters immediately, but it looked there was better chances in other areas, doesn't it?

'Wait, I should not get over my head. Let's see what they have to offer first.'

Carl groaned.

He doesn't have a phone. Nor any money. He was that broke.

"Fuck."

Carl could see that most of his injuries were at least 60-70% healed. He could walk by himself, and even run if needed. This was amazing considering the beating he had going against Samuel and his group, who practically broke the bones in his body and put a hole to his chest.

Carl had to give credit when it is due. This result was partly due to his soul now occupying the body, but this was also due to the biggest strength that the original Carl had, a strong constitution.

There were three important features that mages should constantly improve; their soul, mental sphere, pool of mana, and their constitution, or their physical attributes and limitations.

A stronger constitution meant one has a superior physique at birth, more than the normal human could ever achieve, which included everything about the body such as their immune system, resistance attributes, and their natural healing ability.

There were also instances of one being so superior in their constitution that their body starts to evolve into something not human, like a bear, a fox, or an elephant.

Carl was very proud of this, hence why he had always held false hope that his time or story would eventually come.

When he was still very young, many of the other kids used to envy him after all. Until it all just became dull and forgotten after most of them learned body enhancement magic and basically improved.

This idea in school that Carl Craze had this advantage had somehow faded and was not taken seriously since everyone just gotten too strong for him.

...

Three days passed.

Looking a bit healthier, Carl walked across the room and locked the door.

After the first day, the doctor decided to take off the dextrose injections on his forearms and let his body recuperate naturally.

Walking to his bed, he took his shirt off, revealing the bouncy meat all over his upper body, and then sat on the floor cross legged.

'I had spent these past few days doing nothing. But finally I've recovered. I'm in top condition. I should be able to handle the stress of a cultivation method now.'
