The scratch of a marker on a clear board echoes in the room.

"Gravity… Gravity is a harness. I've spent my entire career chasing this idea, leading up to this very moment."

He chuckles softly. "Decades of work."

"If the unifying theories hold true, we will soon grasp the power of a black hole itself. NOTHING will ever be the same again!"

Suddenly, a deafening, reverb-laden bass erupts.

"WHYYYYYY—"

Alarms blare incessantly, filling the space with chaos.

"THIS IS WRONG. THE FIELD—IT'S FAILING—"

"AAAAAAGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

The clattering of wheels on a hospital trolley cuts through the noise.

"W-what… What happened? Where am I? W-why am I being imprisoned?!"

"RELEASE ME—"

A distorted, reverberating bass hums, followed by a soft, haunting piano melody.

"…What… What is that MELODY?"

Chills. I get chills everytime I watch one of my favorite character's trailer.

Sigma.

The fact that Blizzard released his trailer and then never expanded on his lore infuriates me.

Although it does tell a lot of lore.

I also wished they made him a little more… psychotic or insane.

In game, his condition isn't very pronounced, I thought I'd get to play a cool badass character who is insane and has voice lines that gives me shivers.

Instead I feel like I'm playing somebody's kind old gramps.

Which isn't really all that bad. I can still shit on people with this character and he's still one of my favorites.

I just wish they could have expanded on that.

Especially…

"THE UNIVERSE. IT SIIINGS TO MEEEEEE-"

When he says stuff like that. Like cmon, is that not fucking cool? To have a character who touched a part of a fundamental law of the universe and saw something that shouldn't have been seen?

To the point where it drove him insane? And that he could now control that fundamental law?

Even in the lore, he's supposedly still trying to keep himself together in the game, and trying to not go insane. He just does a good job of doing so.

I read somewhere that someone thinks a part of him or himself was no longer there and that he or it was sucked inside the black hole he had created and is still there.

Unable to escape.

I don't know if that's lore accurate but damn it still sounds cool to me.

I queue up for another game of comp after I finish watching the trailer.

*sigh*

To be honest the only reason I play this game still is because I spent money on it and if I don't play I feel like the money would have gone to waste.

Which according to my friend, is very sad.

I don't think that it's sad, I'm just trying to make sure my money's well spent.

His explanation however, is,

"It's sad because you play not to have fun, not because you're addicted like [The other buddy in the groupchat], but because you force yourself to play just because you spent money and can't take it back."

…I still don't think it's sad, even if most of that reason is just to disagree with him lol.

I check my account and go to the last games I've played.

…9 losses. I'm on a 9 loss streak…

Welp. Let this be my 10th.

"MATCH FOUND."

The screen changes and in front of me is this game's variety of characters.

Of course, I had picked Tank role queue, and I lock in Sigma.

"Hello?"

I check the voice chat and I see I'm the only one in.

Shit. Another team that doesn't comm.

Some would say, why would one need to comm? Why not just be good at the game?

Well, one, usually that isn't the case and someone or multiple someone's are trash.

Or two, the team doesn't have good synergy and can't work as a team in a team based game.

Using communications and voice chatting helps build that synergy and team work by cooperating with the other teammates in the lobby.

Hence, letting you get an easy win.

"Woo boy. Time to go 25, 30-12 and be the only positive kd on my team and lose. For the 10th time."

I prepare myself for the inevitable frustration and anger that is going to happen.

"WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU SO PUSHED UP, LOOK AROUND, WE CLEARLY BACKED OUT YOU FUCKING DIMWIT-"

I watch as my hanzo hits the national holiday numbers, 9-11, and dies.

Then, my mercy decides, wow this is a perfect rez right here, let me just ressurect this guy who's body was surrounded by the whole enemy team. Fuckin perfect.

My mercy dies, and we're down 2.

Alright.

The pharah on the enemy team, overconfident and cocky now, flies in ahead of her team with a mercy pocketing her.

Then I, the beast I am, sends a boulder hurtling straight to her face with perfect timing, and primary fire her afterwards, hitting it perfectly.

As she falls from the sky, I melee her when she falls right in front of me, finishing her off.

Her mercy tries flying back to her team and succeeds. Right as I get my ult.

"THE UNIVERSE, IT SINGS TO MEEEEEE-"

I yell this iconic line from Sigma, and proceed to grab every enemy with my ult.

Of course they all focus their fire on me, and my moira actually decided to be a helpful support for once instead of constantly going for damage instead of heals.

She ults and focuses her beam on me, healing me and not allowing me to die.

The other dps still alive, and somewhat competent, decides to ult as well.

It was almost end of the game and saving ult would be throwing.

Our cassidy ults while my ult lifts the whole enemy team up, leaving them exposed and naked.

Then, the beautiful sound of 4 enemy deaths and the scoreboard on the top right showing it.

"OK NOW WE JUST HOLD, AND WE WIN CMON, DON'T LET THEM CAPTURE POINT."

This was the last round as both teams won one round each and winning this would win the game.

Our two other teammates make it back and regroup with us while we position ourselves for a last push.

They had switched to Wrecking Ball, so they could reach point sooner and touch to trigger overtime.

I, with my miraculous aim, send a boulder that hits the wrecking ball straight in the face, knocking him just an inch away from point.

The progress goes from 99% to 100% at that moment.

"VICTORY."

"…"LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOO-"

Finally, I ended my loss streak.

I sat back on my chair and breathed.

"Nice. Welp that's it I'm done, best to end on a win before I lose my mind."

I move my mouse to click 'Exit Game', and notice something off.

"…What is that melody?"
