A Innocent Mistake

Chapter 14: An Innocent Mistake

Being forced against its will, the horn snake swallowed the crystal bottle whole as it did not have hands to open it with.

Swallowing the bottle, the horn snake nervously waited for the pain that would surely follow, yet nothing happened after waiting a couple minutes, making it look at the skeleton in confusion.

Maybe the blood in the bottle was useless to its diluted dragon bloodline?

Ainz looks back at the horn snake indifferently. His indifference was like how a human would look at an ant, with curiosity and boredom.

The human would look at the ants with curiosity and occasionally feed them rice but once that curiosity fades, they would not hesitate to kill them.

The horn snake did not realize how Ainz was looking at it, being a skeleton and all. It's even possible that Ainz himself didn't know how he was looking at it.

To Ainz, anything that didn't belong to Nazarick was not something to be cared about. He might preach coexistence and the like to the NPCs, but deep down he felt the same way they do. It might be because his avatar is suppressing his human side, or it could just be how he has always been.

Ainz had contemplated if he was a good Supreme One to the NPCs, since he kept interfering with their coding - their souls.

His guildmates had created the NPCs with varying alignments, most of which lean to the evil side. The amount of NPCs with positive karma could be counted on one hand. That's to say evil was the most normal thing for the NPCs and going against it was akin to betraying oneself.

Take for example a demon with positive alignment, acting like a demon lord. That would cause a backlash, which would cause more harm than good and in serious cases, lives.

Ainz himself had experienced a backlash before and he didn't want to again.

The feeling was like an invisible hand gripping at his heart; squeezing it at will. Voices emerging in one's head, forcing one to do something that aligns with their factions; only then would the backlash be sated.

Even to this day, he couldn't say for sure if he was a good Supreme One. Many throughout Ainzland and Nazarick thought he was but Ainz had seen rulers a hundred times better than him in wisdom, they just lacked power. If it was not for his high luck and undead avatar, he would have been figured out many years ago.

That event with the Workers many years ago had caused something to sprout inside of him, something he cannot put back into the box.

He had lost his humanity that day. Maybe he has been fooling himself into thinking he was still human when reality said otherwise.

Being alone with people who cannot fathom your existence is very tiring. Playing something one is not and becoming it against one will, but not shying away from it, isn't it frightening?

The horn snake was about to question Ainz, when a sudden chill coursed through its body and eventually its scales. At first the chill was minor but over time became colder and colder, until ice formed on the horn snake's scales.

As time went on, the itchier and colder it's scales became.

The irritation soon became unbearable as its scales started to fall off like rain, red blood flow out of its pores, dyeing its body crimson red.

As the blood flows out, they would notice that the blood was becoming purer and more substantial as it flowed out, becoming heavy like mercury and thicker than honey.

The blood stains gradually took on a golden hue, looking similar to what happened to Ainz's blood earlier.

The purér and more substantial the blood becomes, the weaker the skeleton that supports its body becomes. Because of the pressure of the blood, the horn snake's skeleton broke down, before the cycle of destruction and creation happened rapidly before stopping.

Each time the horn snake's skeleton was rebuilt, the bones would become stronger, more compact and flexible. It was an all-around upgrade of its capabilities.

The body of the horn snake in its present state could withstand the blunt force of a head-on collision with a truck going 75 mph, only suffering light damage.

The horn snake body started to lift off the ground, before a ripping sound echoed in the area, causing its shape to revel in pain so intense that its mind fell into chaos.

As the horn snake mind became clouded, its body became longer and more draconic. Under the stomach of the horn snake, two talons of a dragon grew, looking slim but possessing an insane amount of power.

A single swipe could kill a beast in seconds. It was even possible for it to escape from legendary beasts; with barely any difficulties.

On its back, two golden wings appeared; making the horn snake look like a Dragon Lord of the New World - Platinum Dragon Lord.

The wings had hocks at the ends, looking more like bat wings instead of dragons.

The eyes of the snake became more silted and golden in color, projecting golden light from its eyes.

If one looks into it, one would feel as if they were staring at the sun, it was simply blinding.

The horn on its head became longer and blacker, almost like the deep abyss of the night.

A weird sensation could be felt around the horn, a suffocating pressure of dread and destruction.

The more time that passed, the more pain it felt but the happier it became.

In the beginning, it was happy to watch its body become more draconic, but it got confused as it noticed that its scales were not coming back, making it feel naked.

Thinking of this, it looked at the skeleton, "My scales? They are gone, and it doesn't seem to be coming back." As the horn snake spoke, its voice was like a clap of thunder, but oddly enough, it was similarly feminine.

Hearing the question, Ainz walked around the horn snake while touching its body, wanting to see what the problem was, but when he touched the horn snake, he felt a familiar power at work, but he couldn't just put his finger on it.

Not thinking about it anymore, Ainz cast <Fireball >, the size of a large dining room table, and tossed it at the horn snake.

Seeing the <Fireball > coming towards it, the horn snake's golden eyes widened in shock, wondering why the skeleton was trying to kill it. It only asks to see where its scales went, not to kill it!

It couldn't dodge the <Fireball > since Ainz was too close to it when cast the spell.

The horn snake closes its eyes, expecting a sensation of pain on its naked body. After waiting for a while; it felt nothing, so it opened its eyes, looking at its body in confusion.

Looking at its body, it was marvelous at its flawless body, which was not damaged in the least.

The horn snake saw the skeleton nodding, 'I see, it receives <Complete Resistance to Damage>, that might be why it lost its scales, because , if it had both, then that would be too overpowered.'

"Don't worry, it's only a benefit that you have gained. Still, being without scales should be the same as humans without clothes, right? Here, I have a Transformation Scroll. These scrolls are very rare, with there being only a hundred of them. Although I cannot give you your scales back, I can give you a humanoid form instead." Ainz tosses the scroll over, not telling the horn snake that when he experimented on New World residents, they all die after using it.

Who knows? The scroll might work, since she was able to survive Sebas's blood, she might survive this as well.

Receiving the scroll, the horn snake listened to Ainz, learning how to activate the scroll.

Activating the scroll, a cloud of mist appeared and covered the horn snake inside a cocoon, making its body disappear from view.

While Ainz with his repertoire of spells could easily see into the cocoon if he wanted; he decided not to.

Contemplating; Ainz realized that he was acting with more freedom without his emotional suppression.

Ainz always wanted to get rid of it, but looking at how he easily got himself a grandchild because of his curiosity, he is starting to missed it.

The blood he had given the horn snake belonged to Sebas and Tsuare. The two had approached him, requesting help in conceiving a child, but been met with obstacles at every turn.

In a way, since the horn shake survived the blood, its parents are technically Sebas and Tsuare, the child of a Dragonoid and a Devil.

Perhaps because of the origin of the blood, it became an original creature, which was unexpected. This would explain the aura of destruction that was unique to the Great Demon of Catastrophe, Ulbert Olde Alain!

The power inside the horn made Ainz see the shadow of a goat headed demon, chuckling sinisterly in a corner. He felt warm with such a glimpse of his comrade, but he regained his barring quickly, looking enthusiastically at his 'grandchild'. If its power could be even 10% of his friends' power, he would be happy!

As he was lost in thought, Ainz saw that the mist had dispersed, showing a humanoid figure.

The figure was of a child, that looks to be around eight years old. The figure had a head full pure black hair that reaches down to her ankles and eyes that look like two golden suns rising from the east, and a face that would make the moon shameful at how delicate it was.

The child was looking at her body in wonder while pulling her hair and fingers, moving them in surprise.

Ainz stood still, jaw-dropping to the ground, wondering how this small and beautiful child appears from a fifty-meter-long dragon!

The biggest thing that confuses him, however, was that her humanoid form looks nothing like Sebas and Tsuare, if he had to put his finger on it, he would say that she seems more like..Albedo.

Contemplating, he looked into his inventory, before standing there dumbly.

Inside the inventory, the blood of Sebas and Tsaure floating merrily, seemingly waving at him.

'I messed up!'
