Overlord: Rei Shiba

Well, this was just one of my pet projects I was making when I had time. I am posting it because I lost interest in it so it is basically dropped. Anyway, maybe it will shorten someone's long while and provide entertainment for the evening... or something. :D Also, do give me your opinion on the story, please. I am not interested in people saying: "Yeah, it's trash!" Because they have problems in real life and this is the way for them to vent. I am sure there will be things not everybody will like but I am interested in constructive criticism. If you find yourself so inclined, do leave a comment or review on what you liked about the story and what you disliked and why. Maybe how it felt to read it for you. (Yeah, I am not really all that satisfied with this story, tbh. :D.) It might help me the next time I find myself desiring to write Overlord fanfic.

Ch17. What to do with you...

Momonga turned towards Rei with a blank face, the flickering red light in his eye sockets dimming a bit. "Mapo Toffu?" He dryly repeated.

"Well, yeah. You never played Gacha or what? That thing is cursed, I tell you! Popping out every time you think you are going to be lucky! Can you even imagine my feelings after I found out I have more than three million five hundred thousand three hundred and sixty-two of them in my inventory!?" Rei exclaimed, sniffing at the injustice done to him.

Momonga couldn't answer as he found it hard to believe the brain freezing rubbish he just heard. Over three million five hundred thousand mapo toffu from Gacha? Didn't that mean the absolute madman next to him had to buy at least ten million Gacha rolls?

'Uwaah~... wait! He said...' "Inventory?" Momonga asked, feeling uncertain if he even wanted to hear the answer while his undead mind actually felt like fainting.

"Eh... yeah. Throwing them away seemed like a waste so..." Rei nodded, "I should probably just dump them into my warehouse like I did the previous seven times I did hard-core gambling this year." He absently said to himself and Momonga instantly regretted asking, swaying on his feet while using the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown to support himself.

For the first time in history, an undead almost suffered a heart attack...

While this was going on, Enri Emmott could only dumbly stare at the two scary figures bantering like old friends, not paying her any attention. A part of her was glad for that small mercy while another was frightened out of its wits that her existence didn't amount even notice from them. This part of her was, however, quickly suppressed when she felt the chilling gaze of the blue-eyed beauty peer right through her, sending waves of arctic cold indifference at her.

Enri quickly understood that if the decision regarding their life was in the hands of this gorgeous maid, she and her sister would be already dead. That's why she could find relief in being ignored. Even if it was just for a moment.

It was then that Albedo, fully clad in her black armor and holding her brandiche, walked out of the Gate, stopping the happy-go-lucky atmosphere between Rei and Momonga.

"The preparation took some time. I apologize, Momonga-sama." She said in a dignified voice that any noble would envy.

"No, your timing is perfect, Albedo." Momonga reverted into his persona of the regal guild leader with a deep commanding voice and Rei couldn't help but chuckle, knowing Momonga loved roleplaying into a king of the tomb. Some, like Peroronchino, had their porn and some, like Momonga, got off of roleplaying.

'Well, can't say it isn't supremely helpful in this situation.' Rei acknowledged. 'Even the ever-timid and naive Suzuki can pretend to be an all-important great ruler of Nazarick thanks to those experiences.'

"Thank you very much." Albedo replied with barely restrained happiness in her gentle tone before turning towards Enri and her sister, "Now then, what would you like me to do with these lower lifeforms?" Her tone changed into one of disregard bordering on disgust.

Momonga, in his usual fashion, didn't even notice and turned towards the corpse of a knight, pointing at it, "For now, the ones wearing that armor are our enemies." He said, making Albedo nod in understanding.

It was obvious to Rei that she didn't like that answer but there was no way she would go against Momonga's words. With the corner of his eye, Rei also intently watched Solution and her reactions. Unlike Albedo, Solution would be perfectly capable of going against Momonga's order and she also didn't look all too pleased with the decision to spare these... humans.

'Guess I have my work cut out for me if I want to make her at least indifferent when interacting with humans.' Rei inwardly sighed at the bleak thorny future in front of him.

Unlike in canon, except for some bruises, Enri was not hurt since the knight didn't manage to land a strike on her so Momonga didn't offer her a healing potion. Rei wondered what kind of butterfly effect that would cause considering that was one of the reasons why Nfirea realized Momonga's identity as Momon later on.

Rei approached the sisters sitting on the ground, huddled together, and crouched in front of them, "The question still lasts. What to do with you two." He mused aloud, curiously peering at them.

Hearing his words, Enri's desperation increased as she understood this was the moment when her life and death will be decided. Feeling Nemu in her arms, her resolve hardened as she bowed her head, "I will do anything you want! Just spare Nemu! Please!"

The second these words left her mouth, Enri stiffened and a chill went up to her spine as she felt the hostility the blond maid showered her in exponentially increase.

"No, sister!" Nemu exclaimed in worry for Enri, far braver than her sister because of her childish understanding of the situation.

Rei was stumped though and tilted his head. 'I... didn't threaten them so why are they acting as if I was their executioner? Weird...' He then felt the faint but concentrated killing intent Solution was releasing and turned towards her, giving her a pointed stare.

Solution didn't like these two human females. She didn't understand why the Supreme Beings were so... benevolent to them. When she heard the older one offering herself to Rei-sama... she simply couldn't help but want to murder her in the worst way conceivable. How dare that lower lifeform even dream of being favored by Rei-sama?

Needless to say, Solution made her displeasure abundantly clear.

Much to her surprise, however, Rei gave her a reprimanding look, causing her to understand she did something wrong and he was disappointed in her. That made Solution flinch. She could bear anything but knowing that she disappointed her master.

She was so shocked, she even stopped releasing her killing intent at Enri as the existence of the human girl was completely forgotten by her the second she registered Rei's silent reprimand.

"Tell you what... we can talk about this later." Rei threw Momonga a glance before subtly gesturing at the dead knights with his head, "We don't have time to waste."

Momonga, understanding what Rei meant, instantly cast [Create Middle Tier Undead] and watched in surprise as the spell took over the body of a knight, creating a Death Knight.

Rei smiled at the apprehension shown on Enri's face when she saw the effect of the necromantic magic on the knight's body. He also noted the girl didn't show much disgust or fear, however. It was quite curious as it told Rei the people here didn't have some biased view of necromancers. They probably didn't even know what a Necromancer was.

"Death Knight, kill the knights attacking the village!" Momonga ordered and turned around to follow the Death Knight in order to observe the fight. It was expected the knights would be on the level of the previous two Momonga killed so there shouldn't be any problem letting the Death Knight handle it.

"Oh, well..." Rei stood up before casting [Yggdrasil's Protection], a ninth-tier nature-based spell that was used to create a protective area, on the ground around Enri and Nemu. Instantly, the air shimmered with magic, creating a translucent blueish cocoon around them that would prevent anyone from trying to harm them while also attacking the offender by growing very strong vines from the ground as a countermeasure. Honestly, Rei didn't use that spell at all in the game but in this particular situation, he felt it could be useful. "Let's go." He beckoned his companions.

"Umu..." Momonga nodded, observing the magic with interest before he absentmindedly threw two Horns of the Goblin General near Enri. "Use that to protect yourselves."
