Rei and Momonga talked in the guild master's office while Momonga fiddled with the Mirror of Remote Viewing, trying to find out how to use it without an interface.
Behind Momonga was Sebas Tian who dutifully waited for orders while Rei had Solution standing by his side, serving him tea without even being prompted to. Since their unexpected night together, she became much more observant and eager to please. Something Rei was both really grateful and resentful for at the same time.
Fortunately or unfortunately, Rei also noticed that deep down he was starting to become possessive of Solution. He spent hours pondering these new feelings and in the end, Rei decided that he would have to take extra care because of his new nature. He slept with Solution and that, for him, meant she belonged to him. Despite knowing this feeling of his was extremely selfish and totally unfounded but he still felt like that.
Rei mostly chalked it up to his feelings after two years of putting effort into her build. There is no way somebody can spend two years trying his best to create something without actually starting to like it. If he didn't enjoy making Solution special, he would never manage to finish her build.
"Still nothing?" Rei asked Momonga as he sipped his tea, having a great deal of fun at the skeleton's expense.
"No..." Momonga answered grumpily, getting really fed up with the Mirror. He was at it for an hour already and still couldn't properly control it. Momonga looked at Rei in suspicion, "You didn't give me a faulty mirror, did you?"
"Me?" Rei innocently smiled, "Now, why would I do such a thing?"
"You are not very convincing..." Momonga narrowed his eye sockets but Rei just shrugged with a mysterious smile on his lips.
"You can always appraise the mirror. That should give you instructions on how to use it." Rei suggested, causing Momonga to blankly look at him.
"You are telling me that now?" Momonga sweatdropped.
"Well, you seemed to have great fun this past hour. I didn't dare to disturb you, Guild Master." Rei helpfully said in a placating tone that sounded quite amused at the same time.
Riling up Momonga was fun. Especially since his emotional suppression didn't allow him to get mad so there was no danger of angering him for real.
"Ah! Finally!" Momonga gleefully exclaimed after getting the instructions imprinted into his mind when he used the appraisal spell and instantly started to use the mirror to peruse a large section of land with excitement for adventure pouring out of him in spades.
"Looks like we are in quite a remote place since we didn't find any civilization yet," Rei remarked.
"Yeah, I just hope the inhabitants of this place won't be too hard to handle for us." Momonga worriedly stated.
"Before that... Shouldn't you rather hope there are some inhabitants on this planet? It would suck if we were here all alone." Rei chuckled. "Though, we can't complain. From what I observed so far, we have quite a lot of land we could 'privatize' for ourselves since nobody seems to live around the place where our tomb was transported."
Rei noticed both Sebas and Solution perk up at that and couldn't help but be amused. The newest rumor in Nazarick was that the Supreme Beings aimed for world domination and even if he knew how exactly that rumor came to be, it was hilarious that Momonga still had no clue about it.
It took a while but Momonga eventually found the Carne village but thanks to Rei informing him about the existence of instructions in the appraisal magic, the attack on the village didn't start yet. The mirror showed the village from above, though, so Momonga and Rei had a nice view of the approaching knights that were about to lay waste on the unsuspecting villagers.
"Attack, huh?" Momonga mumbled, tapping his bony finger on the armrest of his chair in contemplation.
"What shall we do?" Sebas impassively asked.
"This might be an opportunity... or not." Momonga pondered. The very first thing that came to his mind was to leave them be. It was not his problem and the lives of a few humans had no worth for him but he stopped himself before uttering that, knowing it was as Rei warned him. His undead mentality was showing. Instead, Momonga decided to think rationally about it and weigh the pros and cons of stepping in.
When the skeleton was silent for a moment too long, Rei decided to butt in, "I hope you are not thinking something as inane as 'Saving people in trouble is a common sense' or the like." He quipped, startling Momonga.
"No..." Momonga said, making Rei sigh in relief, "I was thinking we could use this to safely test our power against the inhabitants of this world. We could also ask for information after we save the village, maybe even catch some of the attackers for interrogation." Momonga rubbed his skeletal chin while naming valid reasons why helping the village would be beneficial for them.
Rei was satisfied. He wanted to help the Carne village but he didn't want to do it for some stupid reason like 'justice' or to play a hero. If Momonga wanted to save them just because it is the right thing to do, Rei would do his damnedest to persuade him otherwise. Even Touch Me who liked to roleplay as the hero of justice wouldn't be stupid enough to do that in reality.
"What do you think? Should we intervene or not?" Momonga asked Rei for his opinion.
Rei had some ideas on how to make proper use of the Carne village. It was the closest village to Nazarick so not making use of it would be a waste. Naturally, letting the knights from the Slane Theocracy burn it into the ground was never an option here. Then again, leaving it under the jurisdiction of the Re-Estize Kingdom was stupid too.
"I think we should take this opportunity to test our spells against them. The knights don't look all that strong and I doubt the villagers will be a threat to us. It is a perfect situation for us. And as you already said, we could reap some unexpected benefits by doing so." Rei reasoned before turning towards Solution with a smile, "Are you ready for a brief outing?"
Solution smiled back and nodded, "I can go anytime, Rei-sama." She subtly reminded him that her maid uniform is her combat gear.
Rei gave Momonga a meaningful glance, prompting him to nod as he understood Rei's meaning. "Sebas, tell Albedo to gear up and come after us. It's doubtful but we might need reinforcements." He stood up, about to open a gate.
"Also, send around twenty Eight Edge Assassins to patrol around the village, will you? Just in case." Rei added, stopping any complaint from Sebas before the old butler could even start.
Finding the orders reasonable, Sebas decided to just do as he was ordered and bowed before leaving the room. He didn't think anything could threaten two Supreme Beings but he didn't like leaving them without an escort. Well, at least, Solution was with them. In Sebas's opinion, if anything unexpected happened, she could always act her role as their meat shield.
When Sebas left, Rei turned towards Momonga with an excited grin splitting his face, "Let's go! I want to see what this world has to offer!" Unlike Momonga, he didn't have an emotional expression so he could still take delight in his new adventure.
