Little Coal

[News Story Gained : Murderer's Assistant]

The black cat vaguely glanced at the system notification with its white eyes, seemingly in interest. 'For some reason, that doesn't seem like a good story to me...' he thought deprecatingly, he somewhat felt the guilty feeling of murdering another person. However, due to the more traumatic scene of him murdering those teenagers when he first came here, the guilt he felt now had definitely lowered.

'However, I should find a way to compensate for those kids...' he said in his mind as he silently made the decision to do that someday. Despite his somewhat apathetic attitude, he had always been the sympathetic and morally good kind of person.... Er— well, cat now.

He then glanced at Dalek who was in front of him with deep thought. He recalled that last move that Dalek had done when he had gotten close to the intruder, then he remembered the lesson Dalek had done with Klint earlier. 'Was that cold eye?' the cat thought, seemingly afraid. The way the thief was screaming in pain left a mark in the cat's memories.

He then remembered how the thief was able to increase the size of Dalek's wound, lift up heavy furniture easily, as well as Dalek's ability to create illusions.

'This world is terrifyingly dangerous...'

With that, the cat had wholeheartedly decided to arm himself up.

'I should gather stories and get to a higher rank....'

Dalek, who was in front of the Cat had vaguely come up with a slight analysis regarding the thief. He listed out the details of the thief's abilities before coming up with a conclusion.

"Body control, strength and danger intuition... And then there's Zenith which magnified my wounds..." He muttered. "Bull Apparition user, rank 8?" He thought, certain with his conclusion due to the ability of "Zenith."

From his experiences, Zenith was a Bull Apparition User's rank 8 ability. It could increase things to a high point, the concept of its uses were numerous. For example, it could increase the light from a candle, allowing it to illuminate even more.

The Bull Rank 8 Apparition also had Nadir, which was opposite of Zenith. Instead of increasing things, it could decrease things to their lowest point. An example would be decreasing the volume of someone's voice.

He quickly made that assumption and went out of the apartment to signal to his neighbors who were outside, to call the local police officers.

...

After a few minutes of the police officers arriving and getting statements, they had already summed up the entire event according to Dalek's and the neighbor's experiences.

"So a thief had gone here to rob you in the middle of the night, and due to your cat's frightened noises, you woke up and defended yourself with a revolver. After a few rounds of struggle, you had eventually shot him due to self defense.." the police officer in a checkered uniform said, as he summarized the entire event.

"Yes, that's correct. He was really strong... I don't know how it was humanly possible for him to throw that heavy table across the room with just one hand and ease. Hence, I had no choice but to shoot..." Dalek said. What he said wasn't a lie, although there were a few tweaks, it was better than being caught as an unlisted apparition user.

'Shit.. I hope I can get through the investigation...' he thought. Usually, apparition users, once awakened, are supposed to contact the local authorities in order to register their identity as an apparition user, they would then be assigned based on authority management, that way they could be controlled and the safety of the citizens could be guaranteed.

However, due to certain personal reasons, Dalek had not registered himself.

He did not try to hide the fact that the thief seemed unordinary, as this was Supra City, the City of Deers. And every court room in the City of Deers had figures that of the Deer Apparition Path.

As for the reason, it's because Deer pathways represent Justice, and Heroism. At rank 6, they had the ability of "Justice", which meant they could detect any malice or lies. And once detected, they could inflict punishment themselves.

Of course, the Deer apparition users in the courtroom would not inflict the punishment with their supernatural powers, but it was enough to use their rank 6 "Justice" powers to detect lies in the courtroom.

Hence, if he was questioned as to why he didn't mention the thief's supernatural strength in the court, he might be caught as an unregistered apparition user.

"Although it was self defense, as you claim, you still have to spend a few days with us for maintenance reasons before we get proper orders from the higherups." The police officer said as he took out handcuffs which were tied to his belt.

Dalek, who wasn't surprised with the situation, did not at all resist and let himself be handcuffed.

Instead of resisting, he glanced at the black cat who was staring at him with white eyes. Before saying in an upsetingly annoying and teasing tone— "You be good okay, Little Coal? Daddy will be right back, haha."

That's right. He had already decided to name the cat as Coal. As for his reasoning? His black fur reminded him of charcoal, that's all.

The cat's eyes stared in silence at Dalek as it turned around to ignore him and go back to the sofa. 'I just got a home and suddenly my owner is arrested...' it thought amusingly as it aimed to lay down.

He then delved deeper into his thoughts, seemingly thinking about ways to gain more news level stories in the morning. The event that had happened tonight had already left him a bit traumatized. However, for now he wanted to sleep as gain some energy. As for the little nickname that Dalek had given him... He did not consider it at all.

How dare he name me after Charcoal!

Dalek, who had been ignored was stunned as he was dragged by the police officers into a carriage.
