"Nothing, I'm just...tired," Kayden replied, trying to brush it off. "Long day, that's all."
Kelvin's voice was laced with concern. "Long day? The day have just started. You sure everything's okay? You don't sound like yourself."
Kayden forced a laugh. "I'm fine, really. Just need some rest."
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Kayden thought she'd convinced him. But then Kelvin spoke up again.
"Kayden, I know you. Something's bothering you. Can't you tell me what's going on?"
Kayden's heart skipped a beat. She wanted to tell him, she really did. But the words got stuck in her throat. "I...I promise, Kelvin. It's nothing. Just...just give me some space, okay?"
The line went quiet again, and Kayden could sense Kelvin's hesitation. She knew he wanted to push the issue, but he eventually relented. "Okay, space. But promise me you'll talk to me soon?"
Kayden let out a sigh of relief. "I promise."
