A Change in Policy

Back in the yesteryears of our ancestors, moving into a new territory was unheard of. Nobody was allowed to jump from one pack's land to another's. You had to be where your pack was, no questions asked. Even visiting distant family or friends in other packs was not something that commonly occurred. It was strictly forbidden until the 1990's.

This newborn and very adolescent policy allowed you to move from pack to pack after going through a lengthy process. You had to fill out tons of paperwork, go to a variety of interviews etc. (actually not too different from the human immigration process). But first you had to get permission from your alpha to apply to another pack. That meant you had to meet certain qualifications to even be considered. Every alpha had their own set of qualities but most sounded similar: be mated to someone, have no children under 18, have no criminal record; things of that nature.

My parents were only able to get accepted based on the fact that my dad was super close with our old alpha, Lyle. Apparently, my dad had done some huge favor for him that nobody would ever tell me about. It also didn't hurt that I was almost 18 anyway so I was allowed to travel.

The pack we were accepted into was 500 miles from our old one and was called The Avenging Lycans. It sounded like a high school football team if you asked me. I'd rolled my eyes when I'd found out the name of the pack and wondered who named them that and why. Surely, there were better options thrown on the table.

Whatever the case, that's where we were moving to and after a 6 hour drive, we had arrived at our destination. The new alpha, Dane, was waiting there with our new Luna, Moon. Yes, her name was actually Moon. They had also brought with their two oldest sons, Vince and Trevor. They were both very similar looking apart from one thing, their height. Trevor was at least six feet tall while Vince was probably only 5 foot 5 inches. Must have been an age gap or something.

Either way, I was just glad I didn't have to carry in all my stuff myself. Especially since Trevor had made it his mission to grab everything from me before I had the chance to bring it inside. And he kept staring at me with a lost look in his eyes. It creeped me out yet gave me a strange feeling in my chest at the same time. Almost as if he knew something I didn't.

I ignored the weird vibes I was getting and finished the rest of the moving with my headphones on.

It didn't occur to me that anyone would actually want to talk to me until I felt a light tap on my shoulder and turned around to see a handsome smiling Trevor behind me.

I pulled out my earbuds and returned his smile, "what's up?"

"Nothing, just wondering where you wanted me to put this. I asked your dad but he didn't seem to know."

I looked at what he held in his hands to find a place for it and saw he had my grandmother's old jewelery box that she gave to me on my last birthday before she died. It was a very special gift to me and seeing it in his hands made me shiver with anxiety.

"Just give it here. I'll handle it." I reached out to grab it from him but he held it firm and as my hands grazed past his, I felt a shock go through my body. Well, I definitely wasn't expecting that. I looked up at his eyes to see if he had also felt it but he looked unchanged. He was still waiting for an answer.

"Umm, I guess put it on my dresser but please be careful with it."

He nodded and walked away. The rest of the time was pretty uneventful but I still couldn't get rid of that shocking feeling from before.
