The next day at school, I ran into Jane at the lockers. “Hey! You’re back!”
She turned around and we hugged for maybe three minutes straight. “How are…”
She cut me off before I could finish, “I am okay. You can stop worrying about me now.” She turned back to her locker to finish with what she was busy with.
“You know I can’t do that.” I replied. “It is part of the bestie contract. Worrying is part of the job.” I smiled at her from behind my now opened locker.
“Jane!” We heard Marlow approaching us. He hugged her before she could resist. “How are you feeling?”
“Like I said to Nadia, I’m okay. You two should stop worrying.”
“Sorry, we can’t. It’s part of the job.” He replied with the same answer. He seems more and more like a big old soft, buff, teddy bear. Is my heart fluttering? “So, Jane, how did the study session go with Nadia yesterday?”
