1 Day 1: A Short Recollection

... Birds chirping, the heat of the sun rays hit his face, and the cold breeze that came from the open window. It was a normal day for most people, except for a kid named Agapito. He woke up and quickly dashed out of his room. His eyes sparkled like how the sun's rays reflected on water. In his excitement, he almost tripped when he was about to turn right at the end of the hallway. Agapito opened the door of the room that was facing a pond. There, he saw an old man, staring outside the window.

"Grandpa! I wanna hear your story again!!" Agapito exclaimed.

His grandpa stared for a little moment before facing the boy.

"W-which one, my child? I have told many tales of which this old man could remember."

"The one with your parents!!" Agapito replied.

"Alright... but I already told you this for the ninth time already. Aren't you tired of hearing this one?" his grandpa asked.

Agapito shook his head and replied, "I think they are so cool!! They have a son like you yet they are both males! My teacher at school told us that a boy and girl are needed to have a baby... but... but grandpa's parents are different!!"

His grandpa chuckled upon hearing Agapito's words.

"What a silly boy you have become." His father sighed and shifted his gaze outside the window. Silence roamed inside the room. After a minute, his grandpa shifted his gaze to his grandson, who was sitting still--earnestly waiting for his grandpa to start telling the story.

"Alright, young boy... I'll tell you what this old man's mind could muster."

(Grandfather's Narration)

"I was ten when I first asked my father how he met his partner. My father's name was Karl. He was a businessman, and his partner's name was Herald and was a Mathematics professor. I grew up calling your great grandpa Karl as "father", and your other great grandpa Herald as "mother". I was curious just like you, young man, during your age.

"At first, my father, Karl, was very reluctant to tell me since I was too young. I could still remember the time that my mother, Herald, teased him by spilling hints on how they met. Every time my mother does it, my father's ears would always turn red," he sighed. "It was really delightful to see two people fall in love with each other."

"But when did they tell you, grandpa?" Agapito asked.

"Hmm... when was it?"

(Grandfather's Narration)

"I was eighteen and we went overseas to spend our vacation to celebrate my birthday. I got to see how beautiful Paris is in person. Compared to pictures, it was really a sight to behold! Despite being a teenager, I couldn't help but be amazed by how beautiful the Champs de Mars was. There were lovers, families, and friends sitting on the green grass. That time the only unique couple I saw were my parents. We sat on the grass and started eating the sandwich that mom had prepared. I could see it in their eyes that they were genuinely happy at that time. Since they were in such high spirits, I thought of asking how they met. Mom looked at my dad with his "puppy dog" eyes. It was really funny, how my dad almost spurted the water inside his mouth.

"Guess it is the right time..." My father said.

"Huh, grandpa?" Agapito asked when he noticed that his grandfather suddenly stopped.

He walked towards his grandpa to see what happened. And saw that he had fallen asleep in the middle of the day.

"Aww, that sucks!" Agapito said in disappointment.

He was about to leave his grandpa's room when his mother shouted that it was already lunch time. Whenever it was already time for a meal, Agapito was the one assigned to assist his grandpa to the dining room. Agapito gently shook his grandpa to wake him up.

"H-huh? What happened, my son?" His grandpa asked.

"Grandpa, you fell asleep while telling me your parents' story! Hmmp!" Agapito pouted.

"I, is that so?" His grandpa laughed awkwardly. "C'mon now, kid. I know it's time for the meal already. Your mom will scold you if we do not continue to the dining room." His grandpa added.

"I'll continue my story right after we eat," Agapito's grandpa said.
