Douglas Lee (POV)
Seeing her acting like this, I panicked, wondering what was wrong with this little girl. I didn’t want to get into trouble simply because this little rich missy was acting so weird at me.
“How lucky you are? In my family, I am just an only child and you don’t know how boring it is!” Lucy complained as she looked at me without stopping squatting.
Hearing this, I heaved a sigh of relief, for this was an acceptable reason than what my thoughts were running towards.
“There is nothing fun in being too many, at times,” I said, thinking of how tough it was for us back then at times.
But Lucy, not knowing exactly what I was talking about, didn’t even bother to think much about it and continued with her own delusional thoughts.
“I have always wanted a sibling, a sister or brother. And since we are neighbors, how about I call you, brother Douglas?” Lucy asked excitedly as she looked at me.
Hearing this out of the blue, I became so befuddled that I stopped doing the squats and looked at Lucy strangely, my tongue tied and finding it hard to even say anything.
Seeing that I wasn’t doing the squats anymore, Lucy also stopped and stood up energetically. Me seeing how strong she was and acting as if she wasn’t even doing a single thing all this while; I got even more shocked.
Just what kind of life is this little girl living for her to act as if exercising was just like eating?
“What do you think?” she asked excitedly before answering herself without giving me a chance to voice out my opinions and said, “I will call you from that today.”
“You_” I wanted to say something but Lucy was faster than me, cutting me before I even said a single word and said, “Big brother, give me your number. I will call you. I will also tell Mommy that I got myself a brother. She will be very happy for me.”
Seeing her acting so excited, as if she had won some lottery, I couldn’t find it in my heart to just dash her hopes and reject it.
Since she had already decided about it and was happy about it, I decided to just follow along. It didn’t hurt to have a few friends or siblings.
In the end, I accepted defeat and as newly made siblings, the two of us began to talk even more freely.
And as we were done exercising and with the sky about to darken, the two of us decided to walk back home. And since we were neighbors, it wouldn’t make sense if we didn’t leave together.
And as we left, Lucy, whom I found out when it was too late that she was a show-off kind of person, literally spread the gospel to everyone she met along the way about how she and I had become siblings.
Luckily for me, none of the men and women seemed to mind and just looked pitifully at me for a bit before congratulating the excited Lucy.
“I know everyone in this neighborhood. From their kids to their dogs. I am very famous,” Lucy proudly boasted as she skipped while we walked our way back home.
“I can see that, but it’s very good,” I said as I thought of how nice it was to be friendly to everyone.
“Hmm, they are all good to me as well,” Lucy happily said.
“They should. After all, my little sister is very cute and loveable,” I couldn’t help but praise the little girl.
After interacting with Lucy for some time, I realized that the little girl was actually nice. She might have been lonely, but overall, she was good.
At least thanks to her, I got to hear some news and information. I wouldn’t have known if it wasn’t for her.
And just as we were walking thinking about this, I suddenly heard Lucy exclaiming in a way more exaggerated manner than I had heard from her.
In these few hours, Lucy had shown me so many sides, and yet the way she was acting at the moment alarmed me.
Raising my head so that I may look at her, I saw her gazing excitedly in a certain direction.
And looking towards that direction due to curiosity wondering what made the little girl that excited for her to act that way, I froze in place.
“Big brother! Brother Doug, look, it’s my principal!” Lucy excitedly slapped my shoulder while her eyes remained glued to the person who was walking towards us and nearing us.
Looking at this approaching person, I didn’t know how to act. Should I just run away or be courageous and face her?
This was the first time I was going to meet face to face and be in such proximity to this person.
“Big brother, are you listening?” Lucy asked as she turned to look at me while shaking me.
I pinched myself in the palm and sensing the pain, I looked at Lucy doing my best to maintain my expression, “That’s your principal?” I asked, trying my best to not expose myself.
Seeing that I was listening and paying attention to her, Lucy began to happily expose and reveal the information that I didn’t know but was getting to know about making me even more in awe of the woman that I had indeed fallen in love with.
“Yes, the school that I attend is owned by her. You wouldn’t know how big and awesome that place is. It’s like ….”
Listening to Lucy speaking about how awesome my crush was, I couldn’t help but feel my heart thumping even more. The love I had for her even intensified.
It no longer mattered whether she was married or not. I was going to go for her and Lucy became a perfect bridge for that to happen.
“She is an awesome person. It will be great if I can at least greet such an awesome person!” I said, my voice filled with longing, a longing that Lucy was mistaken for that of one wanting to meet someone that one looked upon.
Of course, for me, it wasn’t. I just wanted to get closer to the woman and find a way to slowly seep into her life in a manner that wouldn’t cause issues.
Lucy, hearing that, patted her chest and vowed seriously, “Just leave this to me, brother. This little sister of yours would introduce you to all the big shots on the estate that I know of.”
And hearing this, a sly smile appeared for a brief moment on my face as I inwardly rejoiced. Getting a little sister wasn’t as bad as I thought, after all.
