Late at night.

Inside the Holy Order Academy.

Ayexia, deeply absorbed in her research on self-discipline and organization, had asked Ye Xi for permission to spend the night in the Holy Order Academy. By now, she was exhausted from her studies and had fallen soundly asleep in the research room. For safety, she had locked the door.

However, in the dark hallway outside, faint footsteps could be heard.

"Be careful, idiots. There might still be people in the Academy at this hour!"

"Hey, these scholars are really crazy. They don't sleep at night; they just keep researching. I don't get it."

"Don't forget, Master [Doctor] is also a scholar. Do you have a death wish?"

"No, no... I was just saying!"

The two intruders snuck across the empty hall, heading toward their target. Their infiltration had gone smoothly, with the night watch removed by an inside informant who had reassigned the 30 guards on duty elsewhere.

"Are you sure it's safe?"

"Relax. The attack protocols of the relic guard have been disabled; it won't suddenly activate."

"Then how do we destroy it?"

"Just destroy the core. Look... here we are."

The two reached the door of a research room. Using thin lenses, they slipped them into the door crack to survey the room's interior. Seeing that Ayexia was sound asleep, they exchanged glances, took out sharp tools, and quietly pried open the door, tiptoeing inside.

Watching Ayexia resting on the table, one of the intruders seemed to hesitate.

"Hey, she's a beauty! Why don't we just finish her off and have some fun?"

"Are you insane? We're a proper force, not some looting gang! Get your head straight."

"Right, right. Task first!"

The two continued their plotting in low voices. What they didn't notice, however, was a faint purple light glowing nearby.

The relic guard stood motionless in the center of the room.

The two approached it.

"Quick, hit the core!"

"Alright, leave it to me."

One of the intruders raised his knife. But just then, a tall shadow fell over them.

This eerie scene sent chills through them. Why were there three shadows when there were only two of them?

Turning simultaneously, they found themselves face-to-face with an Abyss Apostle, staring down at them.

For a split second, the intruders were frozen in shock.

"I've been waiting for you… time to have some fun."

In an instant, the Abyss Apostle grabbed each of their necks, and they vanished into the purple-lit floor without a sound.

"Who's there?"

Ayexia suddenly awoke and looked around. However, the room was silent, and no one was there. Strangely, her previously locked door was now slightly ajar.

"That's odd… I could've sworn I heard something. Maybe I was dreaming."

Ayexia yawned, her face showing her drowsiness.

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

Knock, knock

"Ayexia, can I sleep with you for a while?"

Recognizing the voice, Ayexia turned to see a timid beauty standing at the door.

"Layla?"

"Come in, come in!"

Ayexia quickly got up, ushering Layla into the room. "Another late night working on papers?"

"Why do they never end..." Layla sighed, sinking into a chair beside her. "Ayexia, the workload is just overwhelming."

As usual, Layla began venting.

Ayexia had known Layla for a long time. How to put it? They were like close sisters in hardship.

Not long ago, Ayexia had been in a similar position. She, like Layla, had barely any money. Getting into the Academy had been an uphill battle, requiring all her efforts and endless research to make progress.

The only difference was that Layla had gained the Vision of the Gods much earlier, whereas Ayexia had only recently acquired hers.

But things were different now.

Since meeting Ye Xi, Ayexia's studies had improved greatly. After Karati fall from power, she'd been rewarded by the Holy Order with her very own research lab.

Layla, however, hadn't been so lucky. Even with a Vision of the Gods, she could only afford a spot in the dormitory. Recently, she'd taken to napping in Ayexia's lab to save on expenses.

"Alright, alright, enough complaining."

"If you ask me, you should just join me and be my master's concubine."

"My master really pampers me."

Ayexia wrapped her arm around Layla's shoulders, taking in her scent and whispering, "You're so beautiful—my master would definitely be drawn to you."

"Eh!?" Layla's eyes widened in shock. "Wouldn't you be jealous?"

"You know how my master is; jealousy would only make things worse."

Ayexia giggled, leaning in to whisper in Layla's ear, "Besides, handling him alone is no easy feat."

Hearing this, Layla's cheeks flushed.

"Well… I'll think about it."

Ayexia coaxed, "At least you wouldn't have to worry about Mora anymore! You could eat whatever you like!"

"And if the master ever invites another girl over, we could keep each other company!"

Tempted by Ayexia's words, Layla found herself nodding slightly.

Seeing Ayexia so happy had always made her a little happy.
