Chapter 16

“So, we had fifteen of these counters, but nothing to do with them. I remembered we had some party supplies where the colors had run—cups, plates, napkins. I paired them together, along with a twenty-five dollar gift card to be used at a local grocery store. I repackaged it all and called it a Lemonade Stand Kit, even including these banner signs that were supposed to say ‘Birthday,’ but the lettering had been left off. Fixed them to say ‘Lemonade’ and added instructions for the kid to run his own stand. Then I searched for more kids wanting to earn money and was able to get all fifteen toys sent out.”

“Did it work?” Jules asked.

Zuzu smiled. “It did. The kid went to the space camp. Most of the other kids raised funds, too. A couple didn’t use it, but most of them were thrilled.”

Jules scrunched his forehead, confused. “But I thought you said Santa wouldn’t take anything less than perfect.”
