The interrogation room was plain and cold, with a single light hanging from the ceiling. Lian Qiang sat on one side of a metal table, her face unreadable. On the opposite side, the six members of the gang sat uncomfortably, their hands cuffed. The gang members shifted uncomfortably in their chairs, their hands bound by cold steel cuffs that seemed to mirror their uncertain fates.
One by one, Lian Qiang started questioning them, her voice calm and firm. "Do you know Zhang Jin?"
The one member of the gang, a tall man with a scar across his cheek, shook his head. "Never heard of him. But recently before the trouble began he told us that he was his good friend."
She nodded analyzing what he said. She glanced once at the identification picture that was given to her by one of the member of the gang of the boss but she couldn't even criticize his face because it's been too long, and the picture given is already old, so she can't identify it. However, she thought that the person might just be right in front of her now.
Another gang member, a younger man with tattoos on his neck, added, "We've done a lot of things, but we don't know this Zhang Jin."
Lian Qiang showed them pictures and letters of the threats Zhang Jin received. "Are you sure none of you recognize these?" They all shook there heads, sign that they didn't really know about him. But there was still questions on her head lingering, not convinced about their answers.
"Then why did you beat him? You almost killed that person." She paused for a moment. "And if, he was a good friend why did he choose to hurt him?" She asked, didn't take her gaze off of them one by one.
"Our boss told us to beat him because he lost the bet," a young man with tattoos answered directly.
She scoffed out of disbelief, "Is that it? Your reason is funny."
"Who's the boss?" she asked again, her expression suddenly turned serious.
"He wasn't with us because he managed to run away from the police," One of them answered, a man with a nose piercing.
Lian Qiang, trying to piece everything together, pressed further, "So, if not Zhang Jin, who is your target? What's your gang up to?"
The gang member hesitated for a moment, seemingly weighing the consequences of his words. The guy looked nervous and then said, "We mostly steal things and trick people for money. But we don't send threats to people like that guy received. We don't know who would want to kill him."
She nodded with no interest, feeling dismayed about her mistaken opinion of this group.
"What is the name of the boss?"
"Yi Han" A young man answered.
The room was quiet after the young man's revelation. Lian Qiang kept her gaze steady, her mind racing. She had been so sure of herself, so sure that these men were the key to the threats against Zhang Jin. But the name 'Yi Han' wasn't even on her list.
She took a deep breath. "Where can I find Yi Han?" she asked, her voice calm.
The young man looked at his fellow gang members, hesitating. "We don't know," another one said. "He doesn't tell us where he goes."
Lian Qiang leaned forward slightly, placing her hands on the table. "It's important that I find him. If you help me, it might be better for all of you."
The members in front of her had nothing left to say because they didn't know anything about their boss's current location.
In her mind, aside from locating the information about the Black Wing Society, she was determined to find that man first, Yi Han. She will take a risk no matter what even if how much is it cost just to find the culprits behind all of this case she faced.
She will take the opportunity she has now. She will grasp what is in her hands now. For now, she'll start with him, just in case he's involved in this. If Zhang Jin was a good friend for Yin Han, then why did he abuse him? The act of resorting to violence against Zhang Jin simply because he lost is fundamentally unjustifiable. She thought.
As she left the interrogation room, the weight of her mistake bore down on her. The sense of regret was heavy in her chest. She had wasted time and resources chasing the wrong leads. But I think this was one of the idea she could do to know what was really behind of their boss' madness.
She needs the information she wants as soon as possible. She directly went to the investigation room trying to find someone who could help her. With a determined expression, she stepped inside the investigation room.
"Detective Chan." She began in a hushed tone.
Detective Chan kept his focus on the computer, who looked up curiously at the new presence in the room. "I need you to do something for me. We need more on Yi Han's background, affiliations, or anything." She give the picture that the gang members gave her earlier.
Detective Chan's eyes showed he was really determined. He said, "You can count on it, Officer Lian. My team will be on this all night."
"Thank you, Detective Chan. I'll be counting on that."
I'll make sure we have the information and answers after two days. We'll figure it out."
She nodded and saluted to the detective. Every detail mattered, every connection crucial to unraveling the truth behind the threats.
Outside, the night had grown dark. She walked to her car, lost in thought. She had to find this Yi Han and get to the bottom of things. But more than that, she felt a personal need to right her wrongs. She had accused a group, even if they were part of a gang.
She was certain that there are influential people behind these, manipulating it, just like the person behind the mask. She was convinced they have a connection, or perhaps Yi Han is the person behind that mask?
