A Gift From A Legendary Figure

"Teach me!" Mob number 1 said.

"No."

"Then teach me!" Said mob number 2.

"No…"

"I'm way better than them! Teach me instead!" Boldly claimed mob number 3.

"NOO!"

I was currently reading a book about navigation when the peanut gallery decided to show up again.

Two…months…It's been two months since Zoro arrived and joined the dojo and my classmates had spent all that time trying to get me to teach them how I got 'so strong, so fast'…in their words.

They could have trained this whole time instead of pestering me, but here they are.

Can't I get a break…

"Noah! Fight me!" Screamed a voice, who I could only assume to be Zoro's.

Apparently, I can't…

Zoro has been constantly demanding me to fight him. Getting knocked out with one hit did a number on his pride, so now I'm one of his 'rivals' and he fights me to earn it back.

Though, he's not as bad as the others since he fights Kuina for most of his time.

It still gets annoying though…

"Ok, that's it!" I said.

I didn't want it to come to this but...it's time to crush some spirits…

Slamming my book shut, I look up from my book with the meanest glare I could muster.

"You all." I point to the group of students.

"I'm not teaching you anything because you don't work hard at all, you only train when you have to. Start practicing like you want to be here. "

They all put their heads down with shame.

"And you." I point to Zoro, pausing in suspense.

"Y-Yeah?" He gulps, sweat starts to pour down from his forehead.

I cross my arms and then opened my mouth.

"...I don't feel like it."

He comically drops to the floor.

"Then, who am I supposed to fight!"

I would say Kuina, like usual, but I feel like messing with people now.

"You could fight them, I heard that they called you a moss-headed boar before." I shamelessly told him, throwing the rest of them under the bus.

"They did, huh…?"

Zoro currently has veins popping up of his head while the rest of the disciples are trembling in fear.

"Yep!" I said innocently.

Of course, they called him boar because of Kuina and moss head because of me, but I'm not telling him that…

I get up and walk towards the door.

"W-Wait Noah-san! Save us!!" They all said, terrified.

I look back from the doorframe and smile, but it wasn't a smile to them…

They'd learn not to bother me too much anymore…

Walking away, I hear the painful cries of poor, beaten souls.

Now I have to find a new place to read…I think I know a good place.

I decided to read at the edge of the village, near the coast.

10 minutes passed and I made it to my destination.

…I don't hear anyone nearby…

I looked around to make sure…nope, no one.

Sighing with relief, I went towards a pier and sat down at the end of it.

I open my book-

"Huuh! Look what I found here! Some snot-nosed brat near my fishing spot!"

-just to get scared shitless and drop it.

There wasn't even a sound! Where did this person come from?!

I turn my head left to see my unannounced visitor. It was an old man.

He looked familiar to me.

"Who are you!" I yelled in surprise.

"Is that how you speak with your elders?! Kids these days."

This isn't getting anywhere…

He spots the book on the ground.

"Oh…is that a book on navigation? Are you planning on traveling the sea, brat?" He questioned.

"Yes, I am sir," I stated politely.

"You should give up."

…huh?

"As soon as you go out to sea, the marines will just label you as a pirate sooner or later. You'll be constantly chased by them and will be forced to hide from them, trapping yourself. Not to mention what would happen if you come across pirates and you're not strong enough to protect yourself. You should stay home to save yourself from the trouble."

…where the hell is this coming from…? Is he trying to dissuade me from traveling the sea? I mean, I thought about this before. I know the marines are going to label me a pirate later. That they will chase me until the end of my life, but should that stop me?

"So what?"

"Huh?"

No, it shouldn't. This is my second chance at life. One that is full of adventure and excitement. I don't want to live another dull life like my last one…

"Just because there are potential dangers…I shouldn't go out to sea? Is that the life I want to live?" I shake my head.

"Life is supposed to have risk, and when someone has a dream, that risk grows dramatically. You either get lucky and reap the benefits or fail and live with the consequence…" I solemnly said.

I look up to the sky...

"Even if the consequence is huge...how can I give up with the dream I have?"

"What is your dream?" The old man asked.

I look towards him, but with a resolved expression.

"To live a valiant life."

His eyebrows widen, giving me a surprised look. Then, he laughed.

"Hahaha! You're right! How can you live a peaceful life with a dream like that! You're something else, kid."

Tell me about it…

"Come with me, it will only take a few minutes, brat."

Confused, I complied with his demand and walked behind him.

After a few minutes, we came in front of a traditional-looking house.

We went inside and the old man told me to wait in the living room.

5 minutes later, he came back with a katana in his hands.

"I want you to have this, brat."

"What…" I said, flabbergasted.

"You remind me of myself when I was young. I always wanted to travel the world and I needed a weapon, so I became a swordsmith. Some know me as the creator of two of the 21 Great Grade swords Wado Ichimonji and Enma, but I made another sword no one knows about. It wasn't compatible with me, nor did anyone else I met, but you are."

What a minute…now I know who it is… this Shimotsuki Kozaburo! The father of Koushirou and grandfather of Kuina, but also like he said, the creator of two Great Grade swords…and he's giving me a hidden sword that could be on par with the 21 Great Grades!

"Why are you sitting there stupid for! Just take the damn blade!" Shimotsuki pushed the sword on my chest.

"I have been wanting to get rid of the damn thing for ages! It was taking up too much space." He said with relief like a potential great sword is just clutter to him.

I observe the sword, it's amazing...(AN: Too bad and lazy to describe it, the picture will be in the comments at the end of the chapter)

Did this sword exist in the anime and manga, but it was hidden from the world, or did it come to life because of me...?

"So, do you like the sword, brat?"

"It's…beautiful…what's the name of it?" I asked.

"It is called…Sureiyāzu no sosen." (AN: The English name is Slayers Ancestor or The Progenitor of Slayers)

After telling me the sword's name, Shimotsuki sent me on my way.

I raise the katana in the air and marvel at the sight of it. I can feel a real connection to the weapon.

I'll treasure it forever.

...I just realized I left my book at the pier...I'll get it later. I just got an amazing gift from a famous figure after all!

After that day, I started visiting Shimotsuki more often until he died a year later...
