Snow-white seagulls choreographed their dance across the azure sky, while relentless waves, summoned by the sea breeze, ceaselessly kissed the shore.
An enigma of seas and islands unknown.
Breathless, Loya sank onto the sand, his energy spent. After an exhaustive exploration of the island, he was convinced. If this wasn't an elaborate prank, then he had indeed traversed dimensions.
A half-buried instant noodle bucket was his undeniable evidence.
Loya, once a mere office drone fresh out of college, had been looking forward to the rare May Day holiday. He'd prepped for a night of gaming with bread, instant noodles, and soda. Yet, just as he reached for the computer's power button, a sudden blackness engulfed him.
When he regained consciousness, he found himself standing on a golden beach, clutching a bucket of instant noodles. Instead of the familiar, stifling air of his cramped apartment, he breathed in the fresh, salty sea breeze.
His brain short-circuited. It wasn't until the boiling water from his spilled noodles scalded his feet that he snapped back to reality.
Panic-stricken, Loya scoured the island, desperate to find someone, anyone. But the island was as deserted as it was small, not even half the size of his old neighborhood. Surrounded by endless blue, he was on a bona fide deserted island.
...
The sun-scorched sand was intolerable. Loya wriggled uncomfortably before clambering to the shade of a nearby coconut tree.
Am I really in another world?
He glanced at his worn-out flip-flops, pondering the absurdity of it all. No rhyme or reason to his sudden displacement?
Unfamiliar with his surroundings, he deduced he wasn't on Earth anymore. His previous life, with all its familiar faces and places, seemed distant and irrelevant now.
Suddenly, frustration boiled over. Loya kicked at the sand, muttering, "This is such bullshit! I had plans today, dammit!" He ran his hands through his hair, tugging at it slightly. "Sis and I were gonna raid that dungeon for like, a whole day straight. And I'm freaking starving..."
His stomach growled loudly, as if to emphasize his point. Eyeing the coconuts above, he felt a spark of determination.
"Okay, okay. Food first, freak out later," he mumbled to himself.
Loya glanced around nervously. "Who knows what's out there. Better stick close for now." He eyed his t-shirt critically. "Right. MacGyver time."
As he struggled with his makeshift coconut-knocking tool, Loya grumbled, "Come on, you stupid... Ugh, not long enough. Great."
Reluctantly stripping down, he muttered, "Can't believe I'm doing this. If anyone sees me..." He trailed off, remembering his solitude. "Right. No one to see. That's the whole problem."
Wrapping the belt around the tree, he psyched himself up. "Alright, Loya. You got this. Just like on TV. Easy peasy."
As he inched up, his internal monologue became more frantic. "Okay, okay, now what? Move the belt? But I'll fall! Crap, crap, crap..."
When his jeans ripped, Loya let out a yelp. "Shit!" He barely caught himself, sliding down with a groan. "Ow, ow, ow... Well, there go my favorite jeans."
Rubbing his thighs, he noticed the pebbles. "Huh. Maybe..." He picked one up, weighing it in his hand. "Worth a shot, I guess."
As he threw the pebble, Loya muttered, "Come on, come on..." When it hit, his eyes widened in disbelief. "No way!"
Catching the coconut, he stared at it, bewildered. "What the... Am I like, super strong now?" He shook his head. "Focus, Loya. Food first, superpowers later."
As he cracked open the coconut and drank, he couldn't help but comment, "Oh man, that's good. Different, but good."
Scooping out the meat, he frowned. "Weird. This is way easier than it should be." He shrugged, taking a big bite. "Whatever. Food is food."
Looking back up at the remaining coconuts, Loya grinned. "Alright, you guys are next. Loya's coconut buffet is officially open for business."
Ever heard of Dragon Slayers from the manga Fairy Tail? Yep, that's where we're headed. Created by Irene Belserion, these wizards wield ancient magic to morph themselves into dragons. They hunt dragons using this nifty Dragon Slayer Magic.
When Loya tripped through time, his favorite pastime was watching Naruto. But he couldn't resist the allure of this action-packed manga. Forget the other big three mangas; Fairy Tail had him hooked.
Dragon Slayers boast dragon-like physiques. They can replenish their strength and amp up their powers by devouring substances aligned with their magic. Their offensive and defensive prowess spikes when they unleash dragon scales. Hence, Dragon Slayer Magic.
Loya was mesmerized by this manga, treating it like a holy grail. Every week, he'd dash to the corner store with his pocket money, sometimes even splurging the soy sauce cash his mom gave him.
But, like all good things, his enthusiasm waned. The plot dragged, life got busy, and he moved on.
Now, to the juicy part.
Ice Dragon Slayer! Did that even exist in the original? Loya's mind raced through the episodes he devoured.
Nope. No Ice Dragon Slayer in sight. Not in the first, second, or third generation. Maybe Serena with her eight dragon magic crystals could pull it off, but that's a long shot.
According to manga logic, protagonist-like abilities like Ice would be a golden ticket.
This life-saving magic better not be some weird auxiliary stuff like Wendy's. With a tinge of anxiety, Loya examined the interface before him.
The interface had two sections. On the left, a series of attributes; on the right, a skill tree, much like WOW's talent tree. Loya tapped the colorful icon at the tree's base, triggering a pop-up.
Dragon Power: 1/100%. This boosts the Dragon Slayer's magic, but surpass 30%, and your body starts morphing. Hit 90%, and you're dragon-bound.
Loya shivered. Dragon Slayer Magic was potent but came with severe side effects. According to Irene Belserion, every Dragon Slayer would eventually transform into a dragon with prolonged use.
Loya wasn't the starry-eyed kid anymore. If this transformation could be reversed, or if there was a Jellal-level magician around, he might consider dragonhood. But for now, he'd pass.
The next few icons branched out from Dragon Power. Loya examined them one by one.
Dragon Body: 10/100%. Your body adapts to dragon power, enhancing overall attributes. Temporarily boost this by swallowing energy, but beware of the consequences.
Roar of the Ice Dragon: Harness the ice dragon's power in your lungs, channel it through a magic circle, and unleash it. (Magic power required)
Iron Fist of the Ice Dragon: Coat your fist with ice dragon power, delivering a freezing punch.
Ice Dragon's Wing Attack: Channel ice dragon power through your arms, swinging them like wings for a broad attack. (Magic power required)
Ice Dragon's Claw: Infuse your foot with ice dragon power, releasing a freezing effect upon impact.
Ice Dragon's Broken Fang: Wrap your hand in ice dragon power, attacking with claw-shaped fingers.
Ice Dragon's Grip: Grab and inject ice dragon power into the target.
Thankfully, Loya's worst fears didn't come true. Despite not being able to use the Roar skill yet, the rest of the Ice Dragon Slayer Magic was offensively potent, much like Natsu's Fire Dragon Slayer Magic.
Loya noticed the Dragon Body skill seemed to enhance his strength and endurance, likely why he felt so robust. Similar to how Natsu's dragon scales flared up after consuming magic power, this skill temporarily boosts abilities. Downside? The side effects were harsh.
Perfect for a power burst, Loya concluded.
The remaining icons were greyed out, unresponsive. His gaming instincts told him he needed to level up. He speculated on their potential.
Name: Christopher Loya
Energy Stage: First Stage, First Layer
Energy Value: 0/20
Magic Value: 550/550
Magic Recovery Speed: 50/s
Loya squinted at the interface, muttering, "What the hell is all this?" His eyes darted between the attributes and skill tree. "Looks like some weird RPG setup."
He tapped the colorful icon, then frowned at the pop-up. "Dragon Power? Seriously?" Reading further, he groaned. "Great, so I turn into a dragon if I overdo it. Just perfect."
Memories of the manga flooded back. "Man, Irene wasn't kidding about those side effects," he mumbled, shaking his head. "Yeah, no thanks. Not looking to grow scales anytime soon."
As he explored the other icons, Loya's eyes widened. "Holy crap, I've got actual Dragon Slayer magic!" He pumped his fist, then paused. "Wait, why can't I use Roar yet? That's like, the signature move!"
Examining his newfound abilities, Loya nodded appreciatively. "At least the rest is pretty badass. Natsu would be jealous." He flexed his arms, grinning. "So that's why I feel like I could bench-press a car."
Noticing the greyed-out icons, he clicked his tongue. "Figures. Gotta level up first, huh?" He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Man, I wish there was a tutorial or something."
Loya's stomach let out a monstrous growl. "Whoa, what the-" He patted his belly, bewildered. "Seriously? I just ate enough coconuts to feed an army!"
He glanced at his status, frowning. "Energy stage... magic value... Wait, is this thing running on my actual energy?" Another growl answered him. "Ugh, fine! I get it, stomach. We're going hunting."
Standing up, Loya stretched and looked around the island. "Alright, time to find some real food. If I eat another coconut, I swear I'll puke." He started walking, muttering, "Some Dragon Slayer I am. Natsu would laugh his ass off if he saw me now."
