Chapter 44

Title: Forgotten Memories…

-Max POV-

Seeing Raynare pointing a scalpel at Nami's throat while the other Strawhats were standing around with fear in their eyes, I could guess what was going on here. Also, Vivi was here too, so that's neat. Though coming in with a bloody Zoro who seemed half-dead in my arms seemed like a bad first impression.

"Hey~ there, nice to meet you guys." I smiled at them. "I am Max, the King of this country. Ray, I don't think there should be a need to threaten them. Right?"

"They wanted the Royal Doctors and were just about to go and get them. This could tarnish your reputation if they just went and did whatever they wanted here." Ray explained, and by the look in her eyes, I could see the scheming look in them.

Heh, she had grown so much. I can't see the girl who was filled with justice and felt guilty stealing from pirates. "I understand what you are thinking Ray. As always, good job, but don't worry I will take it from here. They aren't dangerous."

Ray smirked. "Yeah, they are kinda pathetically weak."

"Hey!" Luffy yelled out. "Don't talk as if we aren't here!"

Ray didn't say anything and just stopped pointing a scalpel at Nami's throat and walked toward me. Immediately, Sanji and Luffy go in front of their sick crewmate and get ready to stop either me or Ray from taking Nami hostage again.

Zoro is dropped into one of the other empty beds in the room and doctors quietly fill the room and start healing the green-haired swordsman.

"Anyways," I broke the silence. "I will get Kureha and Chopper for you, they should be able to heal Nami and get her back to top condition."

Luffy's face went from a cautious look to a smiling one. "Heeeh~ you are a good guy after all."

Vivi, Usopp and Sanji looked at Luffy like they wanted to punch him for being so trusting. It was quite amusing to see.

"Thanks for the compliment Luffy." I nodded his way and then my eyes turned towards Vivi. Just looking at her made the young girl nervous. "Princess Vivi, this is quite a surprise. Did you finally find some people to take care of your Crocodile business?"

She seemed surprised by what I said and looked at me suspiciously. "How do you know about Crocodile?"

"Hm? Though he is someone unimportant and kinda weak doesn't mean that I shouldn't pay attention to him," I clarified. "After all, from what I know he had quite a plan for Alabasta."

Hell yeah, I was keeping an eye on him like a hawk. But the little princess didn't need to know that.

"Weak?" her hair shadowed her eyes as she repeated my words.

"Yep, he is kinda weak, even Ray could defeat him easily," I confirmed. "Though Crocodile can still kill you all even if the whole group attacked him."

Luffy pointed at us. "Fight me!"

Huh? This guy was reckless as hell. Wonder if he will die in the future due to my interference that had changed some scenarios?

"Fight Ray first, if you can defeat him then you can come at me," I said casually to Luffy who was offended because I called him weak. But it was kinda true though, he is super weak right now. "Though let's do this fight later, I don't have time currently. Also, a fire-using friend of mine was injured by… accident."

Ray looked at me with a piercing look. Yeah, she knew that if Ace got injured, it was probably my doing. She is right, it is. I just taught Ace a very important lesson as a friend, in a battle always expect the unexpected, like me shooting at his arm even though it was just a friendly race.

What can I say? I have a competitive spirit and don't like losing. Even when I worked in my last life I did things like this if people got ahead of me. That was how I came to become a manager for some time. People say that cheating is bad, but honestly in real life cheating works like a miracle. Hard work doesn't matter too much as I always used to laze around. Though I did take credit for some of the work other people did, a little bit here and a little bit there made me seem like the hardest working guy in the office.

Hah! Those were the times. Still, though, I had to stop my mind from wandering about the past as a pang of phantom hunger hit me. Ever since that time I starved at the island, my stomach never feels full no matter how much I ate.

"Princess Vivi, you and your friends are invited to a royal banquet if you want to come. I would like to know how Alabasta is influenced by Crocodile." I smiled and waved at them while walking off.

Whether Alabasta was destroyed or thrived wasn't a concern of mine. But that thing underground the Alabasta Palace is something I must get my hands on. The Poneglyph with the writings that show where one of the Ancient Weapons was.

Ancient Weapons… How strong are they? I had no idea, but it sounded like something I should try and get my hands on. Still, that should be left as a side-job because the most important thing right now was to gather some strength. First and foremost was to get my hands on Enel's devil Fruit and find someone trustworthy within my circle that could get it. If only Negan was alive, that psychotic bastard would have gotten it. He might have been slightly crazy but he was trustworthy as hell. He is probably still getting Fat Joey to get him his lunch even in hell.

Also was afterlife a thing in this place? After all, Brook was proof that something like an afterlife probably existed… right? Or maybe the Devil fruit was made to imitate the abilities of the afterlife?

-General POV-

As Max was wondering about such things, in the middle of the Grand Line, below the sea. Fishman Island laid majestically and filled with strong fishmen. But amongst them, someone like Jinbe still stood out.

Currently, the strong fishman looked at a human with slicked-back hair as he wore a biker's leather clothing. The man had a stick on his hand and kept beating some human traffickers that had come here.

"John, you will cripple them if you keep beating their limbs like this," said Jinbe, frowning at the violence the man was using.

"C'mon Fat Joey, it isn't a big deal, these trash can handle it. I am a gentleman even when being rough," reasoned the man named John. He smirked as he kicked the slave trafficker in the balls. "Money shot!"

Baam!

Jinbe frowned at John. "My name is Jinbe. Did you lose your memory again?"

"Huh? That's what I said," insisted the sadistic man as he pulled up his stick and took a baseball pose. Hitting the human trafficker in the face. "Hahaha, my stick is so hard it broke your teeth."

*sigh* "You will really kill them." Jinbe was tired of trying to stop the man's violent tendencies. Even though John wasn't a bad guy, he was just way too cruel against his enemies. "Also, no, you called me Fat Joey."

"Really?" Wondered John, looking at the sea above him. "Well… it might be someone who I knew before losing my memory. Just like that boss-man guy."

Still, though, the man wasn't bothered by those words for too long and instead took his stick and put it in one of the slaver's mouths. "Heh, I have my stick in your mouth. *Pfffft* BAhahahahaha!!"

Jinbe shook his head. "What the hell am I gonna do with you?"

A/N: Can anyone guess who John is? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
