Chapter 36

Title: Fight against Blackbeard!!

"Zehahahahahah!!" Blackbeard laughed. "You still have that spunk on you! Wanna join my crew?"

"Nah, I ain't really the follower type. Plus I am a Marine," I argued back, joining him wouldn't be so bad. But sadly I had other plans.

Blackbeard looked conflicted at that and pointed at the sea. "Look man, Burgess just fell in the water with his skull open like a watermelon. So he is probably dead, so you will have to take responsibility. Either I kill you here, or you join my crew. Those are the only two choices."

"Well, there are more of them." I refuted him.

"Hm?" Blackbeard seemed confused, so I clarified.

"There are more than two choices. I could bite my own tongue and then choke on my blood, that is our choice number three. Pulling down my pants and shock you by how big my d*ck is and that would cause you to release me." I then smirked. "Then there is choice number five, where I say some dumb stuff to buy time until my spiked bat hits the bottom of the water and activates the bombs in the bottom, which will cause a wave that will capsize this boat. So unless you are able to swim or fly, then you will die."

"What?!!" Blackbeard looked around in shock, letting me go in the confusion. But all he saw around us was a calm ocean water, as even the soldiers had stopped shooting canons.

I chuckled a little. "C'mon man, don't believe everything people say. I was joking. Sheesh, how gullible can you be?"

Blackbeard looked at me angrily. But then he smiled. "Zehahahaha, you had me scared there for a second."

"Just for a second? Then I guess lying isn't my forte," I said, sighing in resignation. "Welp, I guess joining up with you would be better than dying-"

BOOOOOOOM!!!

Suddenly a huge explosion rocked the boat, causing it to instantly explode. A huge water splash exploded out.

Welp, this was my cue. We were all rocketed towards the air, and I just used <Geppo> and bashed in the head of a distracted Laffitte. He was the only one who could fly, Van Augur looked at me calmly like always as he and Backbeard plummeted into the water.

I might have lost the fight against Blackbeard, but I won the war. Winning against Blackbeard in a fight would be hard for me, and winning against him and his crew, the chances were so low it would be considered impossible. Yet, the fight didn't matter how it ended up, as long as I made a relatively big distraction for them, then the submarine under water would shoot them down.

There was no bombs under the ocean, a submarine was a little further away planning to shoot them with missiles. Why would I tell him my plan? He might discover a way to deal with it, I will never underestimate my enemy. I used to read a lot of manga back in the day, when they told their enemies their plan and that was how it failed. Truly a stupid thing.

Still though, I just needed enough time to be able and give the submarine enough time to do this. I knew Blackbeard wouldn't kill me immediately. He was arrogant, that is his weak point, and it was apparent in many events that would happen in the future. Plus against an enemy who had already lost the battle, what was there to fear against? Obviously a lot, but that wouldn't be clear to most people who get lost in the victory. At that moment the happiness and relief will cloud everyone's judgment, even of those who have fought a thousand battles.

But logical people won't get distracted by this. And I would like to consider myself a logical person, actions based on logic are my forte. No matter how people feel for some, at the end of the day, logical conclusions will be what most take.

For example, a man was being beaten up by ten guys in an alley. He was screaming for help, most people would see that and call the police. Sure, some would like to think themselves the Hero, but they will freeze up like turtles. At the end of the whole thing, most people will rationalize that the man getting beaten was probably a bad guy or did something to get involved with such sketchy people. They will convince themselves that calling the police was all that they could have done.

On the other hand, I understood this phenomenon and simply accepted it for what it was. Also that wasn't necessarily the wrong decision, after all, the real heroic people who go to help will get themselves killed in the process. Possibly even their family would get in trouble with sketchy people. Still though, denying the existence of other possibilities would be wrong.

Anyway, what mattered here wasn't this.

What mattered was what I should do with Blackbeard? I could try killing him here… he did fall in water, but unless I kill the man with my own hands then I will just assume he was still alive. People in this world were tenacious and could handle a lot before they died, especially monsters like Blackbeard. Just having him on water while he was a Devil Fruit User doesn't mean anything.

But is killing him the right decision? Currently I was too weak to feel safe after changing something so drastic. Who the hell knew what would happen if Blackbeard got taken out. Plus if he somehow survived this experience, then having him as an enemy would be even more of a disaster.

Also, having the Marineford War happen would be good. Ace might die, but who cared about him? I sure as hell didn't, though Ilike him as an anime character. In a life or death situation? Couldn't care less about him.

Plus the World Government and the Marines needed to be settled down by Whitebeard a little. After all, the Marines and World Government being strong was in their interests and the world's interest. A world without Blackbeard would be a safer place and many people would live and not experience the horrors he would bring upon them.

But what about my interests? Those are the things I could concentrate on, I couldn't care less about the world's interests. Unless they affect mine, then I don't really care what their interests are or what they are after.

Welp, as a wise man once said; "We make peace with our enemies, not our friends."

-Blackbeard-

The next time Blackbeard opened his eyes, he noticed that he was under an unfamiliar ceiling.

"You finally woke up, sleepyhead." Said a familiar voice next to him.

He looked to the side and saw a smirking Max sitting down on the chair next to his bed.

"Ugh," Blackbeard groaned. "How long have I been out?"

"One and a half hours. The doctors said that you had a pretty bad head injury that would take at least a week to wake up from… I didn't believe them. I doubted they had ever dealt with your kind of people, even then though, you woke up way earlier than I expected." Max explained.

Blackbeard looked Max in the eyes with a serious look.

'He didn't know when I would take up?' Thought Blackbeard indigenously. 'Since when did a King have the time to wait for me to wake up? Still though… from what Laffitte said, the Marines described Max as a muscle-head who wore his heart in his sleeve. Yeah, they couldn't be more wrong, this man was the exact opposite of what they described him as.'

Though Blackbeard didn't say any of these thoughts of his, Max's smirk made him feel like the young man in front of him already knew what he was thinking.

Plus the intentional scheming glint that was sent by the Marine/King definitely made it clear that he knew what he was doing.

That was also when Blackbeard noticed that Max hadn't even used Seastone Restraints to hold him back or weaken him. If it was anyone else, then Blackbeard would assume that they had been careless or arrogant.

But even after only one battle, he knew that Max wasn't careless, nor was he arrogant. That only meant that Max was confident in his strategies and power to restrain Blackbeard if anything happened.

"As proof of not wanting to wish you any harm. I didn't even put Seastone chains or restraints on you. As soon as you and your crewmates heal completely, then you are allowed to go out," Max explained. But the topic that he talked about was what Blackbeard was curious and worried.

Again, that feeling like Max could see straight through him crawled up Blackbeard's back.

'What a bothersome fellow did I get involved with?' – complained Blackbeard internally.

....

A/N: When this gets 500 Power Stones, I will post a bonus chapter.

Max lost the battle, but he won the war. Fighting against someone stronger doesn't mean that he can't beat them.

Just like King almost killed Big Mom and her crew with one kick. We know that he wasn't stronger than all of the Big Mom Cerew together, but in that situation, with these circumstances, he beat them easily.

This is a similar situation. Max just got the Blackbeard Crew's attention.
