Chapter 5: Awkwardness

Jack's POV

Oh no!! I screwed it....again!!!! I shouldn't tell my feelings towards Sofia too soon, she shouldn't find this out!!!

"Jack, what did you just..." I quickly broke the hug and looked away, I rubbed my forehead and closed my eyes tightly, I totally regretted for being overwhelmed.

"I mean.....uh....I mean....I just.....uh....." I was stammering with my words, coming up with a better excuse to not let Sofia suspicious of me. She took a step forward and bent down a bit to look at my face.

"What do you mean you can't live without me, Jack?" Sofia wouldn't stop asking me, I cleared my throat and forced myself to smile at her.

"What I meant was... everyone deserves to be loved, and so do you. There might be someone out there who loves you truly. Who knows? He couldn't live without you." Within that moment, Sofia's face softened, she was a bit stunned by what I just said. At least, I didn't make it too suspicious.

"Hah, if only someone out there truly loves me, I know that's impossible to find one." She sarcastically laughed it off and turned away.

"You don't have to find one Sofia, because I'm here right in front of you."

I couldn't say that out loud right now, because there's still plenty of time to put it on hold. Besides, it's not too late to confess my feelings to Sofia, is it?

"Anyway, try to control your emotions next time, Jack. You would never know the outcomes. Alright, I would like to go out and have some fresh air, see you later." Sofia patted my shoulder before leaving me alone in the room.

"Ugghhh, I'm trying to control, but I couldn't when it comes to you, Sofia." I murmured slightly under my breath, sighing heavily with all of the burdens I have on my body right now.

After that awkward conversation with Sofia, I didn't know how to interact with her again. I walked out of the wooden house and searched for her, only to see her getting some heat from the campfire.

It made sense, a human couldn't handle such a high level of cold in our forest. Werewolves could handle it since it was their right temperature to live. However, humans couldn't stand in this cold area for a long time. The fire alone won't keep Sofia in heat, I need to find something else to make her feel comfortable.

"Hey Jack, what's with the worried face?" I turned around and it was Ruby, one of my werewolves clan, she also took care of Sofia when I was away from my place and distanced Sofia from Chris when he showed up.

"Hey Ruby, I'm not too worried, but a bit...." Ruby looked at the direction where I was staring at, Sofia kept rubbing herself and her palms to make some heat. Ruby understood my intention and smiled at me.

"I know what's going on in your mind, but why are you hesitating? Go ahead and talk to her." As much as I wanted to, but something kept stopping me from doing so.

I sighed for about hundred times for today alone. "I don't know, but.....I feel like things are being awkward between us, and I have no idea how to clear it away. More ever, she's a human and we're werewolves. You know what I'm saying?"

Ruby nodded her head and looked at Sofia. "Yeah, I think she's having trouble dealing with this cold. Let me do something about it, and I'll try to make the atmosphere thin between you two. Just go and talk to her, I'll be right back."

Ruby went inside the wooden house to prepare something, I gathered up all of my courage and walked towards Sofia. She was too focused on the heat that she failed to notice my presence next to her.

"Sofia...." She turned her head up and startled a bit from my sudden appearance.

"Hey, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you or something." I assured her out of nowhere as I felt nervous to be with her.

Sofia smiled and asked me to sit down next to her. "Hey Jack, it's fine. Come on, have a seat." I grinned slightly and took a seat next to her.

"Is it too cold out here? You should have stayed inside." I started to worry more because Sofia kept rubbing her palms for nonstop.

"I was not expecting to be this cold, this is all new to me." Sofia kept her both hands on the fire to gather some heat. I only noticed that the firewoods were running out for the fire.

"Here, have some hot chocolate." We both turned our head and saw Ruby standing with a mug on her hand and a blanket on a other hand. She took a seat next to her and passed the mug to her.

"Oh, you don't have to. I'm fine." I knew Sofia was lying because she didn't want to make anyone feel comfortable around her, but Ruby was not giving up. She patted Sofia's shoulder and told her to hold it.

"I know you're freezing out here, and we have all of the responsibles to take care of you. So please, don't hesitate to call us for any help." Sofia smiled warmly and slowly took the mug from Ruby.

"Thank you so much, I really appreciate it." Sofia slowly took a sip of hot chocolate, and it really did make her feel warmer than ever. Ruby wrapped the blanket around Sofia and rubbed her back to give her more heat.

"Are you ok now, Sofia? Any more cold?" Sofia smiled and nodded her head fastly. I silently chuckled at myself as it was too cute to watch her being herself.

"Truth to be told, I feel much better now, thanks for your hospitality, Ruby." Sofia thanked Ruby, and she just smiled back at her. I'm starting to admire the new bond that had been created in front of my eyes.

Ruby looked around the area for a while, before looking back at Sofia. "So, how is the forest, apart from these cold weather?"

Sofia looked around the area with a hint of curious on her eyes. "Well, this forest looks fine, it's not too scary like what the humans said, but it's a bit too dark here."

Ruby placed her hand on Sofia's hand, holding it tightly. "Don't worry, we're always here to look after you. Chill."

Sofia smiled back and nodded her head again. I smiled to myself again without them catching me.

"I will always be here for you Sofia, because I love you from the bottom of my heart."
