Chapter Fourteen • I Didn't Do It!

Valerie's POV

As envisioned, the house's scenery is so magnificent and elegant, with marble floors and walls, and some parts of it were even made with glass transparent walls and doors. His house is only a one-story building yet, it covers a large scale of land. His living room is as large as the size of a hall yet stunning.

He led me to my room where there was a queen size bed and a beautiful wardrobe and everything in the room was painted white. I fell in love with the room Instantly.

I plopped my suitcases the minute Christine left and made my way to the door I presumed to be the bathroom. Furthermore, I gasped at the sight of the bathroom, it's well-equipped with a shower and bathtub.

Additionally, I removed my clothes and soaked myself in the bathtub. I don't remember the last time I used a bathtub, it's so invigorating.

After taking a long bath, I slumped on the bed with only a bathrobe on my body, and without realizing it, I was already asleep. When I woke up, it was already dark.

Furthermore, I dressed up and left for Elite restaurant. On my way out, I didn't even see a silhouette of Christine, but that's the least of my problems now, I used a taxi which drove faster than expected.

I was surprised to see a police van in the restaurant. The staff banded up and were being quizzed by the police. "What the hell is happening here?" I asked myself.

I thought about taking to my heels immediately, but why will I do that if I haven't committed anything worth running for? With that, I walked majestically inside the restaurant and I stood at a spot where I saw Christine talking to one of the policemen.

"What in heaven's name is he doing here?" I muttered yet again to myself.

"Hey, young lady, you're Valerie Mark, right?" A policeman's voice brought me out of my daze.

"Yes, I am sir, any problem?" I inquired while squinting my eyebrows.

"Please come with me." He said, and I followed him without any further questions, but why was he walking towards Christine? I decided to keep quiet and see what else he would do.

"Mr. Marciano, Christine, She's the suspect." He said to Christine, and he turned and gazed at me with an icy expression.

"Wait! W-what!" I muttered, trying to fathom the meaning of the words I just heard.

"Miss Valerie, we have a warrant of arrest filed against you by the victim's family, please kindly follow us because anything you do or say will be used against you in the law court." The same policeman said with flaring anger while stretching a handcuff to me.

"What the fucking hell is going in here? How can you arrest me when I'm sure I've done nothing? I ain't going anywhere with you until you fucking tell me what my crime is?" I blared with my hands folded on my chest.

"Miss, watch your language." Another policeman said, and I scoured around the place and noticed that the security men were asking the employees to leave, thankfully the chagrin wasn't like earlier.

Christine brought out his mobile phone and came closer to me and showed me a video of me giving a glass of vodka to a particular customer, and another video showed the same customer dead inside his car.

"Ahhh…" I wheezed in fright and closed my mouth with my palm.

"But I didn't do it, I only gave him a glass, I didn't add anything to it, how can I add something to the entire bottle. If I intended to harm him, think about it, he might have eaten something apart from the drink," I said with tears flowing down my cheeks as I stared at Christine.

"No matter what your explanation is, you still have to follow us to the station, Mr. Marciano, if she doesn't follow us now then your restaurant will be closed down and this case will be leaked to the media." The policeman said to him.

Christine didn't even act as though he had ever seen me before now, it was as though I was a total stranger to him. He excused himself and walked to a corner to take a call. The policemen finally used the handcuffs on my both wrists as tears kept flowing down my cheeks.

Who will speak for me? How will I get a lawyer? If Christine turns his back on me, then I might stay in the walls of the dark compartment for the rest of my life.

Tears kept flowing down my cheeks, for the first time in my life, I accepted defeat for the very first time. I can't defend myself, regardless of what I say, and the worst part of it is that I can't stop the tears.

Furthermore, they made me sit inside the car and two other policemen sat beside me. After a while, we anchored at the police station. I was directed to a particular place for questioning.

"Where is my son's murderer? Where is she?" I heard a woman blaring amidst sobs.

When I walked inside there, my eyes met hers, a lady in her early forties with deep blue eyes and blonde hair. All her words ceased midair, and she looked at me with shock and mouth ajar. This is a small world, I didn't expect to see her here, not in this kind of circumstance. Tears drooped down my eyes as we stared at each other.

"V-Valerie!" She called out in a shaky voice.
