Terrifying News

He saw her grandma crying profusely on her son's shoulders. The two of them really looked devastated.

"Adler." Kevin called out, the moment he set his eyes on him.

"How's she?" He asked looking scared.

Kevin suddenly looked devastated. He could not say the words himself. "I guess it's better you talk to her parents."

He nodded and walked to her parents. Her father had already caught sight of him earlier. He could see the fear slammed on Francis face. Mr Ken slowly broke his mother's hug and excused Francis to a side. Francis heart was going wild in his chest. He was praying not to get a terrifying news, seeing the kind of expression painted on her father's face. Nothing should happen to his Jane, else... the whole world will sink in hell.

"How is Jane sir?" He managed to speak still looking scared.

Mr Ken heaved a sigh and patted his shoulders. "Jane...." He paused and stared at him. "After the death of her mother and her only sister, she was diagnosed of oligodendroglioma. Before we got to know she had such illness, it was already in grade two. She went in for her first surgery after some time. But the doctors said the tumor in her head grew back after few months, so she had to go for the second surgery and it went on to the fourth, which they eventually thought it'll be the last. At the age of twenty-one, she was diagnosed again with a grade three oligodendroglioma. She decided not to go further with the operation and because we didn't have the money either. We still tried all we could to convince her to go for another operation, but her mind has been made up. The sickness shortened her life span." He sighed, looking extremely sad. "Before the accident you guys had earlier, she was having only two months left to live. Her condition might have start deteriorating sooner. Unfortunately, according to the doctors, the fatal accident have worsen her condition. And now..., she has only few days left to live."

He saw the look on Francis face. Those were the kind of expressions he had when he heard about his wife's death along with his child. Confusion, fear and pain, all clutched him at once. Francis shook his head in denial to what he just heard. 'This is not true'. He screamed in his head. A tear rolled down from his eyes, and his knee eventually gave in, falling to the ground.

"My Jane. Please tell me this is not true. Please...." Tears in his voice.

Mr Ken squatted down to his level. He understood how he was feeling now. Back then, he also refused to accept the truth about his wife's and child's deaths. He had slapped himself several times to wake up from such a horrible nightmare. Unfortunately, it was not a dream but a brutal reality.

He gently, patted Francis shoulders.

"I understand how you're feeling right now. But you have to be strong for her right now." He heaved a sigh. "I'll see you soon." He left and joined his mom.

His whole body was now zipped in fear. This cannot be true. His Jane cannot be....

"Doctor. Doctor, can we see her now?" Her father asked, immediately the doctors stepped out.

Francis also stood up in a haste, eager to get answers from them. He also needs to see his Jane.

They nodded. "Yes you can. Just don't be too noisy. The patient still needs some rest."

The three of them went in. More tears rolled out from her grandma's eyes, seeing her granddaughter masked in an oxygen mask. She could not bear to see her grand child in this condition, so she stepped out of the room crying and her son, followed her outside to help her calm down.

Francis who stood there frozen, finally managed to take slow unsteady steps and halted by her side. Her eyes fluttered open shortly.

"Francis....?" She called in a broke and raspy voice.

He just stood there staring down at her. His eyes were drooling down with tears. Judging by his expression, Jane had guessed that her father might have told him everything about her illness cause this was the same look her father had worn when her mother and her sister died. A dreadful pain expression.

He went down on his knees and gently cupped her hand, placing a kiss on her forehead.

"Don't leave me." He spoke in teary voice. He gently bumped his forehead on her's. "I don't want to loose you my love."

"I'm not going anywhere, I promise." She spoke in a reassuring tone.

He rubbed her face with the back of his hand gently, and stared into her eyes. "Go through with the surgery please."

Her heart shattered seeing the sad look on his face. She didn't want to see him in this kind of condition. "It's 50/50. I'm scared. I don't want to."

"Don't worry my love. I'll send the best doctors in the world."

"But...."

"I still have to fulfill one of your wishes and I can only do that with you kicking. Please do this my love. Please..." His face and his voice sounded pleading.
