A Purpose

"Are you okay?" He asked making her thudded heart increased its pace even more. She nodded but couldn't stop gaping at this gorgeous mortal in front of her.

"Okay." He said averting his gaze to Mr Ken.

"Here's your water." Mrs Hien said as she approached him smilingly with a glass of water in her hands.

"Thank you." He took a sip and spoke as Mrs Hien sat down to a seat close to her son. "I came here for a purpose." He said very straightforward, twirling his glass. "Jane," he called staring at her. She couldn't help but widen her eyes in more shock as her heart skipped a beat when he called her name. "I'm here because of you. About the damage my brother caused you and your family, I sincerely apologize. I hope you're okay."

"Yes." She said not blinking an eye away from him.

"Good." He kept the glass cup and stared at Mrs Hien and Mr Ken then brought out something from his suit pocket. "Here's a blank cheque." He said handing it over to Jane. "Fill in any amount you want. It's a compensate to whatever my family and I did."

Jane and her family were bemused.

"Mr Francis," her father spoke making Francis averting his gaze to him, "I'm really thankful to you that you came over to apologize, but I'm sorry we have to decline your offer."

"I know Mr ken. I know you'll decline it. But I wasn't referring to you." He turned to the still Jane by his side, "I'm referring to whom the whole thing happened to, your daughter, Jane."

Jane's frozen body increased more, not knowing what to say or how to react. Is it the cheque been offered to her, or is it him staring at her, making her heart skip so many beats.

"It's a compensate." He continued still staring at her. "Fill in any amount you want. This will cover any amount of damage we might have caused you." He said and placed the cheque on her hand and got up. "Thank you Mrs Hien and Mr Ken. I'll take my leave now." He said and walked out.

Jane who was utterly frozen and speechless was jolted back to reality when he opened the door. She followed him briefly after he stepped out.

"Mr Francis." She called out as he opened his car door.

"Yes Ms Jane. How may I help you?" He asked facing her.

"About the cheque earlier, I'm afraid my family and I will have to decline it."

"Why?" His intense gaze on her made her heart skip again for the nth time.

"Well. There was no damage caused as you can see. I'm fine, so as my family. So I'm sorry we have to reject your offer."

He nodded slightly and sighed, and stared at her for a little while before he spoke. "Then what is it you want?"

"There's nothing we....."

"I insist." He said cutting her off. "Tell me what is it you want. I'll get it."

A brief silence followed on between them. The cool breeze blew off her brown hair. She stared in his eyes and searched if he was serious about what he said. She was stunned when she couldn't read anything in his emotionless eyes but his gaze on her were intensed.

"Will....will you give me whatever I ask for?" She asked as her thudded heart couldn't help but beat harder and louder.

A brief silence followed on again like there was something going on his head.

"Yes I will."

"Are.....are you sure?"

He sighed and spoke. "I can get you whatever you ask for Ms Jane. Is it an Island, a mega yacht, a mansion, the latest car, a private plane? Mention it." He said with his calm voice and his hands in his pockets.

She swallowed not because she was scared, but because of the words that were about spilling out from her mouth.

"What...what if I say...that what I want is not materialistic. Will you still get it."

A bemused smirk formed on his lips and he raised a brow. "Okay. Then what could that be."

"Will you still get it?"

He let out a sigh and stared at the dark sky and then to her. "Whatever is it you want, I'll get it."

Another seconds of long silence followed. The cool breeze blew off her hair and his coat. His unfathomable eyes never strayed away from her.

"Let me be your girlfriend."
