Lexy inched closer to Mikey, who was doing his best not to scare her. His tongue was out, and he was avoiding direct eye contact. He sat back on his haunches. Abi held the leash that was attached to what looked like a face cage on Mikey. Lexy would have felt better if the leash had looked less like a ribbon and more like an unbreakable chain, and instead of just Abi holding the leash, she would have liked a dozen bodybuilders.
Then again, Lexy was old enough and astute enough to realize appearances lied. She looked from Mark to the dog and back. "Are you sure about this?"
"Positive. We've not lost a guest yet to death by dog mauling."
"Terrific. I can be the first. Just tell me you have a first aid kit on standby."
"That we do. Come on. Mikey is waiting."
