Felix should have been ready for when Rachel made a move, like his friend said. But it didn't happen for longer than he would have expected. 

She acted friendly, cheerful, and generally eager to please as always during the holidays. She got everyone presents, not just him. That was simply the sort of person she was. 

He felt bad about not getting her anything and felt the need to reciprocate. Even if it did end up giving her the wrong idea. He didn't want to lead her on but she had only been acting as a friend there considering she got presents for everyone. 

It made her so happy too. Just a couple of cheap pieces of sheet music. She was one of the most easily satisfied people he had ever met, if not the very most. 

Felix couldn't deny that he liked seeing her happy. She had the sort of smile that made anyone who saw it want to smile too. And she deserved it more than most after the pathetic life she had lived for so long.
