It Wasn't Supposed To Be Like This

Jacob's apartment was little more than a place to crash. It wasn't so bad though. He caught up on sleep when he could and hung out with his friends when he wasn't sleeping. It wasn't such a bad life.

But, of course, his mom just had to go and ask… "So, are you seeing anyone?"

"No, Mom," he said tiredly.

"Interested in anyone?"

"No."

"When was the last time you went on a date?"

"I don't know, Valentine's Day?" He may not care about romance much but he usually at least tried to get a date then so he didn't feel so pathetic being surrounded by friends in happy relationships.

"That was a long time ago," Layla piped up unhelpfully. "Are you ever going to get a girlfriend?"

Most likely not. Jacob didn't want one anyway. It would be too much hassle with his job. "Does it really matter? It's not like I need one."

"It's still weird you don't have one. You're old."

"Wow, thanks."
