Adam had truly bought Carter's loyalty. The boy looked up to him. Liked him. Cared about his well-being enough to make him eat food and watch a movie that he usually did when he was sick to make him feel better.
It was adorable. He couldn't remember the last time he felt so loved and it was because of a four-year-old of all people.
If he killed himself, Carter would be upset. That alone was sufficient reason not to go through with it. At least not while they were in regular contact. They wouldn't see each other forever.
The time where they didn't see each other might come sooner rather than later considering how badly he screwed up last night. Callie was going to quit on him. He had to convince her not to now that he was more in his right mind!
Adam didn't get his chance until after Carter went to bed. He spoke quietly just in case he wasn't asleep yet.
