The Scarlet Scandal

“What is it you are going to tell me?” King Joaquin asked Don Filippo.

Don Filippo paused for a second, trying to recall the little details in his story. He then raised his head and saw the Cipreon king’s face painted with eagerness while King Sandalius stood behind, wanting to hear what he was going to tell. He closed his eyes and then said, “The scarlet scandal.”

Confused, the two kings looked at each other. None of them knew of it nor heard what it was. “The scarlet scandal?” King Joaquin repeated in a puzzling tone.

The old right hand looked at him and nodded. “Si, señor. The scarlet scandal. Spoke by many of our ordinary men–and Duke Gervasio was the center of it.”

“Well, that brute is always the center of misfortune.” King Sandalius retorted.

“What is in this scandal?” Asked King Joaquin again.
