I QUICKLY toss the memory of my dreadful dream away from my memory as I hurried to sit next to her as my grin stretched from ear to ear, threatening to rip my face apart.

"You don't have to say anything, it's fine that you're fine," I beam, holding her hand and giving it a little squeeze. She only smiled at me again, and the nurse asked me to give them room to proceed with the necessary dues. I don't hesitate and think of going home to clean up the mess made a few days ago whilst I packed up for our potential new apartment.

Driving this car seemed so new to me, everything seems so new. Soon I'll be wearing a wedding band in my hand and answering the title of a married man, married to a woman that I would never consider as bride worthy on a regular day.

Pulling up in front of our apartment, I decided to forget about my current issues for a few minutes and focus on cleaning and packing up everything that needed to be packed.

I needed to clean up as well, as I had already informed our landlord about the change of dwellings.

When I'm settled in, I finish up with the laundry, clean the dishes, vacuum clean and take out the trash afterward. I'm halfway through when I receive a phone call from an unknown number, I slid through the receipt button and place the device against my ear.

"Hello, who am I speaking with? "

"The moving company would be there tomorrow, just wanted to give you a heads-up. It's nice to note that my fiancé hasn't saved my number," Camilla taunts over the phone.

"You can't blame me, can you? The thing about the moving company I've barely started packing,"

"Just pack your valuables, everything you'll ever need is in the new apartment. Please hold, " she requests, and I only hear unclear background noises before she returns to the phone call.

"What are you up to?" I ask her, curious about her current location.

"Shopping for an engagement ring, of course,"

Bummer, I forgot about that.

"Don't you think —"

"That you should buy it? No, I don't think you have good taste. I'll send you the address of the new house via an email, and you should be there by tomorrow. I've also arranged with the doctor, and they think it's okay to move your mom there while she recovers from her surgery as well,"

"Wow," I mutter.

"I'd take the diamond necklace as well," she says, possibly referring to another individual at the store she's in.

I'm slightly offended that she doesn't pay attention to my words, but rather on what she was doing over there.

"So, you were saying? " Camilla inquires, returning to our conversation.

"This is going fast,"

"My sister's wedding is next month, I have to fasten up to save my arse. Speaking of, we're going to see my grandfather in a few days after your mom is successfully moved,"

"Thank you for everything, "

"Don't get sentimental, it's just business. You did your part now I'm doing mine," she states before ending the call, shutting up my last sentence.

I sighed before I resumed the process of packing things up in the best way I could, making sure that I didn't forget any of my mom's valuables. We barely had numerous assets, so packing wasn't all that hard.

I settled at my mom's mini vanity and started packing up her jewelry when I caught sight of a peculiar ring.

I took the diamond ring in hand, it seemed awfully familiar, like I had seen it somewhere before. Maybe my mom had worn it several times before my accident or so, but I didn't know that we could afford things like this. Was it a gift?

I shut down my questions with a shrug as I continued packing things up, and soon I had successfully filled up the boxes with a few appliances, dishes, jewelries and a few clothes. Whatever we wouldn't need, I'd probably give them out to charity.

The next day, I got the house address and decided to check it out before the moving company arrived.

Once again, I'm completely thrown off my feet when I arrive at an exquisite duplex, I had to double-check the address to make sure that I wasn't at the wrong place when a suited man walked up to me.

"Mr. Anderson, it's a pleasure to finally meet you, " the man grinned, his voice thick with a Hispanic accent.

"The pleasure's mine, and you are?"

"Duke Sylvan, but you can just call me Duke. I'm the butler of this abode, sent here by Ms. Dunwoody herself, "

A butler?

"Wow,"

"Come in please, I'd like you to meet with the rest of the staff," he offered, stretching out his hand as he led the way.

"Y-yeah, sure," I replied before following him through the large gates.

The building boasts a charming exterior facade with a warm, inviting colour scheme and a blend of brick and vinyl siding, a front porch with a decorative railing and a few steps leading to the two separate entrances. A small, neatly manicured lawn and some tasteful landscaping complete the front yard with a few outdoor decorations like flower pots along with a short driveway leads to a sweet garage. The house is adequately maintained, with a fresh coat of paint and no visible signs of damage.

As I stepped on the vinyl flooring in the house, the interior of the building is on another level with a false simulated fireplace, plush white furniture and a glamorous chandelier hanging on the ceiling. It's like stepping into a dream.

Duke introduces me to a few maids in the sophisticated kitchen, I'm quite elated that whilst my mother served others all her life, she finally has the opportunity to served herself. He gives me a decent a tour and I get to see the three bedrooms, garden, and a study as well.

My mom's bedroom has a large vanity table already stocked with shades of makeup and skin care products, the closet also has expensive clothing all from renowned brands including a delightful collection of shoes.

Every door opened left me awe and wonder of why I thought of this twice and how luck shone on me to turn my life around in just a few days. In one of the rooms, supposedly mine, clothes are also left there. I don't know how she got to know about my shoe size or appropriate measurements, but she did good.

Regardless of the beautiful oasis, I didn't spend the night there, rather I finished up with preparing the boxes for the moving company before driving off to a jewelry store. When I walked towards the counter with my eyes stuck on the array of precious gems left on display.

"Good evening, sir. How can I help you?" the lady at the counter asked.

"I'd like to purchase an engagement ring,"

I don't care whatever she says, but I think it's so awkward that she gets herself the ring and not otherwise even if she was the one who wanted the marriage, this is the least I can do to aid my part of the bargain.

"Ooh, congratulations, " the receptionist smiled.

"Thank you," I beam.

I visually surf through their collections for a while, finding one which is fitting. I suddenly feel like I've done this before, maybe before my accident or something else but that isn't the issue of discussion now.

"Here's a member of our new gold collection, sir, " the receptionist grins, setting out a thin gold ring with an infinity symbol. Infinity? Our marriage would last for five months.

"It's lovely, can I see another? "

After a few minutes, I walked out of the store with a silver solitaire flower blooming ring. I have no idea what she would think, but it was worth trying anyway.
