Good Luck

A week later and my mom was transferred to our new home to continue her recovery journey, she looked like she was reborn, happier and admittedly younger.

Henceforth, I'll pay more attention to her so she wouldn't struggle with anything like that on her own.

Camilla had also hired a driver, which drove us all the way to our new location. I had finished up completely with the packing and moving; all that was needed was her presence, and I couldn't wait to see the look on her face when we arrived at our new place.

"Where are we headed?" Mom asked when the driver took another turn.

"You'll see, soon," I beamed, holding her hand.

Minutes later, the car drove into the garage of our new place, and I watched my mom's jaw drop in awe and wonder.

"Who are we visiting? "

"Visiting?" I smirk, taking off my seatbelts as I hopped out to help her out into her wheelchair. The driver was nice enough to help out with her hospital bag and I pushed her in, smiling all the way as she was totally dumbfounded when the maids greeted her at the entrance.

Finally, I pulled to a halt when we got inside as I watched her admire the whole building. I calmly stood before her and squatted to take her hands with mine as I tried to visually make her understand that all was well, "Welcome home, Mom," My lips twitching into a grin.

Her eyes slowly popped wide open as she closed her mouth in shock. I'm taking this news delivery one step at a time to ensure that she doesn't get hurt due to a heart attack or something much worse.

"You mean this is yours?"

"Ours, Mom. Ours, remember that app I've been working on? "

"Y-yes, I do,"

"I found an investor and the rest is history,"

Her eyes are slowly tearing up, and I understand her, she's been living in penury for far too long. This was a massive upgrade, and I am happy I made that decision because the smile on her face made me realize that it was all worth it.

"This is a miracle! " she exclaimed.

"Yes, it is," I giggle.

I showed her around the house along with Duke and introduced her to the four domestic helps as well as the driver. After the whole tour, she's burnt out and decided to take a nap after raining prayers of gratitude and tears as she saw each room. Her personal nurse arrived a few hours later and I decided to take a walk in the garden when a maid came looking for me.

"Sir, you have a visitor," she informed me.

A visitor? I'm not expecting anyone so who could it possibly be?

"Who is it? "

"A man by the name Stephan Williams, "

"Oh, I'm on my way, "I say, dismissing her.

I haven't heard from Stephan in a while, so this is quite amusing, I guess Camilla sent him.

When I arrive in the living room, I find him there quietly seated on the couch with his attention on the soap opera playing on the television. He tore his gaze from the screen when I took a seat on an armchair opposite to his.

"Pleasure meeting you again, Mr. Anderson, "

"Pleasure is all mine, "

Stephan looked around the building, carefully examining every detail of the living room before glancing at me.

"Luck, isn't it? A few days ago this was a mere dream and now, look at you all polished up. Bodyguard turned fiancé,"

"Well, I —"

"I haven't come here for any explanations, but I want you to call off the wedding. Everything she's given you, I'll give you in double folds, just leave her and go into hiding. Deciding to get married was a spontaneous and immature idea, "

I blinked twice as I watched him pour out his words with an authoritative tone like they had to be done immediately, or I would get a massive punishment.

My life changed when I accepted to marry her that is a fact, but I wouldn't stay with her to enjoy more benefits like a lazy loner.

I'm going to keep working in the very best way I can to raise more funds for survival after the wedding and after the end of agreement, but a deal was a deal and only Camilla had the right to call it off.

"I'm sorry but no, "I replied, curtly.

Stephan clicks his tongue as he lets out a chuckle as he gives me a deadly gaze as his lips slowly form into a frown, "Do you think she loves you? You think you'll last happily ever after, do you? Just take what you already have and leave, she wouldn't even have a damn clue that you're gone. She's just using you,"

"Then let she, I'm the one who's being used so I have no complaints even if our marriage would last a day, or an hour I don't mind being used until then, "

He scoffed, "You're pathetic, if you don't know, I'd like to educate you about a fun fact, when Camilla Dunwoody's using you, she's destroying you. She'd ruin you into several miserable pieces until you break down into nothing but worthless dust, "

"I don't mind. Look, I appreciate your concern but my mom just recovered from her surgery and needs a serene environment to rest, I'm afraid that this conversation is over, "

I wouldn't drag this with him, I obviously signed that contract in good health and sense of reasoning. I don't mind suffering or going through whatever sort of ruining process Camilla would take me through but as long as my mom remains happy, that's enough for me. She's suffered internally on my behalf and made so many sacrifices, this is the least that I can do.

Stephan rose to his feet, slipping his hands into his pocket as he approached me for a handshake, "Good luck with your marriage, Mr. Anderson," he beamed.

"Thank you," I responded, shaking his hand with reluctance.

"Marriage? You're getting married, Drix?"

I withdrew my attention from Stephan and to the location of the voice which was my mom's. She's still in her wheelchair, staring at me intently and I bite my lower lip. Hard.

Stephan looked from the handshake and gave me a toxic smirk, "Good luck with that too," he laughed, exiting the building.
