On Company Time

Jimmy's job in customer service is just a paycheck, in his eyes. His boss Debbie wishes he were more of a "people person" and more enthusiastic about coming to work. To improve his skills, she schedules him to attend a two-day, out-of-town workshop Jimmy's already dreading. Then he discovers Scott Raines will be tagging along. Jimmy's had a fierce crush on Scott, who works in sales, since his first day at the office. The man is gorgeous and funny and so damn intimidating, Jimmy hasn't yet screwed up the courage to ask him out. Maybe the workshop will provide the perfect opportunity to remedy that. They'll travel together, share a hotel room, and who knows where things may lead? Johnny might yet get to make his move. Unless Scott makes one first.

Chapter 6

Don’t stop,I want to say as he stares at me,waiting.Don’t move,don’t let go,don’t sit back,and please don’t let this moment end.Please.

My mouth opens,my tongue licks out to dampen my lips,and I draw in a quick breath that pulls his scent into me like expensive perfume.Before I can stop myself,before I can even think,I murmur,“You have really pretty eyes.”

His smile falters.God.Where the hell did that come from?

Nervously,I mumble,“I mean,they’re different.Most black guys I know have brown eyes,don’t they?Yours are so blue.They don’t even seem real.”

Shut up,Jimmy.I want to punch myself,I’m such an idiot.Of course his eyes are real,what the hell else would they be?Just stop talking already.He thinks you’re dumb enough as it is.

I draw in a shuddery breath.“I mean—”

He laughs.“It’s cool.”
