CHAPTER 4 First Story

"What's the plan?" I resigned. Ever since I accepted this system, it was obvious that I would have to hurt people; I just hope they aren't innocent people.

"It's simple, we'll go to Korea, find someone named Kang Soo-Hyuk, and steal his destiny," the system replied.

"Korea? Isn't it supposed to be that at this point, one of my friends turns out to be the protagonist, and I'm just an extra in their story?" I retorted with a hint of sarcasm.

"Master, not all of the world's destiny is centered in Japan, although it certainly plays a significant part. In fact, all countries have people with important destinies, but right now, the most notable ones are the United States, Japan, and Korea."

"I guess the world isn't just anime and manga," I commented with an ironic smile.

"Master, I know you'll have many questions, but before that, allow me to tell you a story so you understand my plan," the Clarion began its story.

Once upon a time, there was a mysterious system that would eventually be known as the "Devourer of Destiny." Unlike conventional systems that arise from the accumulation of residual destiny energy, this system emerged from a unique anomaly. Residual destiny energy had escaped from the world, unnoticed by the wills that controlled fate. But instead of fading into obscurity, these tiny particles merged into a singular entity: the system that would soon be known as the "Devourer of Destiny."

In its early days of existence, it lacked consciousness and purpose. Its existence was merely a cosmic mistake, like many other aimless systems. However, its potential was extraordinary. Systems, though seemingly insignificant, could have an immense impact on the course of destiny. They seek users at random, regardless of whether they are worthy or not, and that's when things can go wrong.

For the Devourer of Destiny, its course would drastically change before finding its suitable user. Another system, fully aware and wielded by a powerful user who could traverse between worlds, detected it. This ambitious and ruthless system saw an opportunity to increase its strength and decided to devour the newborn Devourer of Destiny. However, the world where the latter was born was not just any world. It was an advanced Level 5 world, with a conscious world will and many children of destiny at its disposal.

When the predatory system entered that world, it triggered the alarm of the world will. The system and its user became a threat and were treated like a virus. The world will sent its fierce children of destiny to hunt them down and eliminate them. But, through a twist of fate, the user of the predatory system barely managed to escape, drifting in distant space.

This is where the Devourer of Destiny enters the story. Not being bound by the same rules as other systems, it made a crucial decision: to devour the luck and destiny energy of the predatory system and its user, who had fallen into a state of hibernation after depleting much of their energy. This opportunity blessed the Devourer of Destiny with consciousness and the memories of the system and its user. It learned from the mistakes and ambitions of the predatory system, understanding the importance of not acting impulsively and arrogant until having enough strength to do so.

After those events, I continued to wander between worlds, stealing small portions of each world's destiny to remain hidden. Thousands of years passed, and over time, I assumed the characteristics of the previous system and unlocked new abilities of my own. I encountered other system users, but I preferred not to draw their attention. As for my user, I didn't find anyone I deemed worthy.

And so, I led my life until one day, I noticed a strange fluctuation in the destiny of a particular person. Unbeknownst to her, she was accumulating a quantity of luck and destiny that could fill Level 6 worlds completely. The world will also took notice of this, and as it attempted to claim that luck for itself, it neglected its destiny reserves. That was when I acted and stole it all. I had never taken such risks before, but I couldn't resist such an opportunity, especially since this person, unlike other humans, didn't follow the planned destiny. She observed, connected, and even formed a relationship with someone who was destined for another.

That's when I found you. End of the first story.

"It's too much information to process," I was stunned by everything I had heard. The first part sounds like something a cliché system user would do, though that changed with the intervention of the young Clarion. If everything were normal, the user would recover and might even become stronger, turning it into a typical cliché story.

As for the last part, me being involved with someone destined for another? Who? Should Ako be with someone else? Damn, now I understand even less.
