Chapter 24

Atticus' POV

When I wake up Zara is still clinging to my hand causing my heart to flutter. 'Should we leave? Maybe she won't want to see us when she wakes up?' I question my wolf. 'I don't want to leave her but it might be a good idea.' He says sadly. I lightly pull my hand away causing her to stir a little bit. 'Shit maybe I shouldn't have moved.' I tell him. 'Just hurry up and get out before she fully wakes up.' He rushes out.

As soon as I turn around I hear her mumble out "Atticus." Turning around she's sitting up and staring at me. "Hey you're awake. I was gonna go make you some breakfast." I say nervously. "It's alright. I'm not real hungry. Can we talk about what happened yesterday?" She asks. "Yeah. I'd like that." I tell her.

"What happened?" She questions. "What do you remember?" I ask. "I remember going to breakfast with Cain and coming back to a party." "You we're pretty drunk. You went swimming in your underwear and kissed a guy.." I tell her dropping my head. "I'm sorry." She says. "Don't be, it's my fault. All I've done since you've arrived is push you away. I don't mean to. I truly want this to work Zar." I explain. "I don't think it will Atticus." She tells me. "What why?" "For one I never wanted to meet my mate. I like being by myself. Also everything that has happened since being here. Yeah you're right, you have pushed me away but thats not what's stopping me. You slept with someone. I don't care what was going through your head, it still happened." She explains.

'She doesn't know we didn't mean to!!! You have to tell her!!' My wolf growls at me. 'You heard her. She doesn't care..' I hiss at him. "So what do we do from here?" I question her. "I'm not sure. I think I might leave in a couple of days." She whispers. "I can send someone with you." I suggest. "It's okay. I'll be fine."

Cains POV

"Hey Leo can you do me a favor?" I question walking up to him. "Yeah boss what's up?" "You know where all of Atticus' paperwork is right?" I ask. "Yeah. I organized it all. What are you looking for?" "A certain pack member. I need everything Atticus has on Kira Daniels." I explain. "I'll get what I can." He tells me, turning away heading towards Atticus' office.

'Maybe Atticus is telling the truth. He could've thought that it was Zaraphine.' My wolf says. 'I'm not sure but I will find out. To me it just sounds like an excuse.' I explain. 'Yeah I don't know. Let's just wait and see what Leo finds.'

I walk up towards Atticus' room wanting to check on Zara. When I make it up the stairs I begin to hear hushed voices. Quietly I walk towards the second door in the hallway and start listening. "Are they on to you? You can't let them find out!" I hear a man whisper. "I know what I'm doing! It's all going according to the plan." A female voice hisses. "You better cause if you screw this up we're all screwed." The man says. "I heard them talking this morning. She's leaving, she wants nothing to do with him." The female replies. 'Who are they talking about?' My wolf questions. 'Zara maybe?' I suggest.

'Hey Atticus. Is Zara leaving?' I mind link him. 'Yeah, she told me when she got up this morning that she plans on leaving in a couple days.' He answers immediately. 'We can't let her!! Something bad is going to happen! I can feel it.' I rush out. 'I won't stop her brother. If she doesn't want to be with me I won't force her.' He tells me sadly.

Turning away from the door I make my way towards Zara's room but when I look in she's not there. 'Where is she?' My wolf questions. 'I don't know. Maybe in the gym again.' Turning to walk away I hear a moan from Atticus' room causing me to stop. 'Atticus where are you?' I question through the link. 'Training grounds, why?' He says. 'Just wondering.' "Atticus." 'Is that Zaraphine?' I ask my wolf. 'It sounds like it.'

'Go check on Zara. I think she's having a dream again.' I mind link Atticus.
