I collapsed on the ground moments after that, I could feel myself slipping out of consciousness, in the last possible second before I faded away I saw Diane running in my direction. I felt a small relief that she was alright, but after that I faded out.
Once I awoke my head was in Diane's lap, a wet cloth on my head. I gradually opened my eyes, seeing Diane's face looking down at me. The second i fully opened my eyes she screamed,
"Storm he's awake!!"
I looked over in the direction she was looking in and saw a storm running over. I felt an even bigger weight lifted off my chest as I realized I was in a camp with everyone else. I could barely feel anything in my body, I could barely stay conscious. But i had to know what happened to everyone in the village, all our friends and family that were fighting for their lives, i had to know.
With my voice weak as it was called out and said,
"What happened to everyone…"
That stopped Storm in her tracks, her head fell down, a gloomy expression on her face. She fell to her knees moments later,
"They're all dead, only one man survived.." She said solemnly, her voice dripping with sadness.
I couldn't focus on the dead, as much as it pained me I had to keep my head straight and focus on the living.
"Who?" I asked, my voice gradually growing stronger.
"Old man Phus.." Diane said, "He's barely clinging to life as it is right now.. I'm surprised he was beaten so badly.. He was the second best fighter in the village after your father…" Diane finished, her voice shook with sorrow.
I began struggling up to my feet, my legs and arms wobbled with every move I made, I almost fell backwards but Storm caught me. I looked at her and said,
"Take me to him."
With Diane and Storm both under each of my arms I slowly began to walk to where he was being treated, slowly but surely I made my way there.
"WHat is the scope of his wounds?" I asked.
"He had his arms ripped off, and his legs broken, also an abundance of internal injuries." Storm replied.
"We have to keep him alive.. He might have useful information on what we should do next.." Diane said quietly.
"Right." I agreed, my feet slowly moving faster.
Suddenly Storm dropped out from under my left arm,
"Who put you in charge anyway, brat!" She spat.
I managed to stand on my own, and I slowly pushed Diane away. I looked her in her fierce eyes, calmly i spoke and said,
"I did." My voice was calm and assertive as I spoke, "Now either you follow me or you leave.." I said, I knew I was bluffing.
I couldn't lead these misfit ruffians without her, but I had to make sure I was in charge here, otherwise things would get ugly.
"Well I say to hell with that!" She spat back.
