Chapter 16: Can't Find Anything on Me

Pei Nian saw the situation and took a deep breath before walking over and speaking up, "Brother, you know dad's health is not good, why can't you talk to him properly?"

Pei Ji's face was half-hidden in the dim light, and his voice was devoid of emotion as he replied, "I did talk to him, we just didn't agree."

Pei Nian frowned and asked, "Can't you listen to dad's advice?"

Pei Ji sneered, raised his head to look at her, grabbed her hand, and pointed at the bruises on her hand as he asked, "I listened to him, but I let that Fu guy bully you like this?"

Pei Nian was stunned for a moment before speaking again with a serious tone, "Brother, as long as our family is safe, these things don't matter. Instead of hatred, I would rather our family of three live together peacefully."

Pei Ji remained silent, just turned his head away and took a deep drag on his cigarette.

Pei Nian pleaded with him, "Brother, please, can't you do it for me? Can't we avoid revenge and go to another place to live a peaceful life as a family of three?"

Although Pei Ji remained silent, his gaze finally softened a little.

In the afternoon, Pei Nian returned to Qin Yuan.

Yun, the housekeeper, was surprised to see her back so soon and asked, "Miss Pei, why are you back so early today?"

Pei Nian smiled wryly, "My dad didn't need me to accompany him, so I came back."

"Oh, I see."

Pei Nian spoke up, "Yun, I'm a little tired. I'm going upstairs to rest."

Yun nodded quickly, "Sure, go ahead!"

Pei Nian went to her bedroom on the second floor, pushed open the door, and looked at the quiet room.

Her expression gradually became more restrained.

Thinking back to her conversation with Pei Ji earlier, she let out a sigh and decided to erase all the grudges between her and Fu Yanchen with her departure.

At night, Pei Nian was awakened by a knocking on the door. She opened her eyes and heard urgent knocking and Yun's voice calling out to her.

She got up and went to open the door.

Yun was relieved to see her, "Miss Pei, you finally heard us!"

"What's wrong, Yun?"

"Sir has returned."

Pei Nian said flatly, "If he's back, he's back. Why are you so excited?"

"No," Yun explained anxiously, "he had a car accident and is covered in blood..."

What?

Pei Nian followed Yun to grab her clothes and went downstairs, where she saw Fu Yanchen covered in blood, sitting in the hall, with Xiao Li beside him.

Fu Yanchen's upper body was covered in large bloodstains on his shirt, with one arm wrapped in a bandage, making him look extremely disheveled. Xiao Li was slightly better off than him, with only a small bandage on his forehead and no other visible wounds.

"Mr. Fu, the police and our own people are working together to find the perpetrator. We believe there will be results soon," Xiao Li reported to Fu Yanchen.

Pei Nian walked down the stairs just in time to hear their conversation and deliberately slowed her pace to eavesdrop.

Xiao Li noticed her and greeted her, "Miss Pei?"

Fu Yanchen also looked over at her.

Pei Nian had no choice but to approach them and ask, "What happened?"

Xiao Li bitterly smiled as he reported, "Mr. Fu and I were on our way home tonight when an idiotic car suddenly came towards us and crashed into us."

Pei Nian asked, "Did they catch the person?"

"It was too dark at the time, and the person who crashed into us escaped quickly. We didn't have time to react, but the police are already investigating, so there should be results soon."

"Really?" Pei Nian heard this and inexplicably felt that something was wrong...

At this point, her sister-in-law interrupted her, "Madam, please help Mr. Fu change his clothes!"

Pei Nian snapped back to reality and looked at Fu Yanchen's blood-stained shirt. To be honest, seeing all that blood made her feel a bit nauseous, but she still walked over and unbuttoned his shirt before helping him change into a fresh one.

After she finished, Fu Yanchen instructed her, "Go pour me a glass of water."

Pei Nian, feeling sympathy for his injuries, did not refuse.

As she poured the water, she overheard Fu Yanchen casually instruct Xiao Li, "Find the person as soon as possible. Whether they're alive or dead, I want to see them."

"Yes."

Just as she handed the glass of water to Fu Yanchen, "Bang!" her hand accidentally knocked into another glass, making a clear ringing sound.

Everyone turned to look at her.

She hastily tried to steady the other glass and handed the water to Fu Yanchen, pretending to be calm as she said, "Please drink the water."

Fu Yanchen took it over.

Pei Nian picked up his changed clothes and said, "I'm going to throw this shirt away."

Yun Yi spoke up, "Miss Pei, let me do it for you?"

Pei Nian said to her, "Everyone hasn't had dinner yet! You go prepare dinner first!"

Yun Yi could only nod.

Pei Nian took the shirt outside the villa.

She threw the shirt into the trash can first, then looked around and walked to a corner, took out her phone and dialed a number.

Someone answered quickly, "Hello?"

Pei Nian asked directly, "Brother, did you hit Fu Yanchen with your car?"

There was silence on the other end of the phone.

Pei Nian knew her guess was probably right when he didn't answer, and she suddenly felt a headache. "Brother, didn't you promise me not to retaliate? Why are you going back on your word?"

Pei Ji pursed his lips and said, "I promised not to retaliate against him, but that doesn't mean I can't teach him a lesson."

Pei Nian was at a loss for words when she heard this.

Pei Ji comforted her, "It's okay, you don't have to worry about it. I did it very discreetly, they won't find anything on me."

Pei Nian listened to his confident tone and asked, "How do you know they won't find anything on you?"

"Just trust me, I have something to do first and can't tell you about it now."

"Wait a minute..." Pei Nian wanted to say something more, but the phone had already hung up, leaving her speechless.

She stood there for a while, took a deep breath, and then turned around to go back inside.
