30. Birthday Boy

I realize I fell asleep on the couch when a phone call wakes me up at some point. A sharp pain shoots up my neck when I try to get up.

"Arrggh," I groan, massaging my neck while searching for where I left my phone.

I give up on looking for it when it stops ringing to focus on the area I have cracked my neck as a result of the angle I slept on.

I later find my phone when it starts ringing again. One look at the screen has me frowning in confusion.

"George? Why is he calling me at such an ungodly hour?" I mutter before sliding the green button.

"What happened? Is there a problem?" I ask eagerly when I hear his voice.

"Whoa, take it easy… Wait, why would there be a problem?" he asks back, his voice clearly as confused as mine.

I let out a calming breath.

"Sarah? Are you still there?"

"Y-yeah. I just thought…"

"You thought what Sarah?"
