Gensokyo is another land far from our world, which is known there as the Outer World. Also is called the Land of Fantasy, where impossible things can come true.
That place, created by four powerful wise ones, is inhabited by beings of extraordinary capabilities and mythological creatures. Fairies, nekomatas, youkai, kappas, beasts, vampires and plenty of others. Humans also exist and Shrine Maidens.
Gensokyo's inhabitants are living under several factions: The Scarlet Mansion, run by a dominant but caring vampire. Netherworld, governed by those who are dead and became ghosts. Eientei, a place founded by exiled Lunarians who fled from the Moon's Dictatorship. Youkai Mountain, a high land with many species of Tengu and Moriya Shrine's place. Forest of Magic, a place where mages tend to hang out and make a living. The Former Hell, where souls were judged long ago across a bridge between worlds and now its core balances Gensokyo's temperature, guarded by a Yatagarasu. Myouren Temple, leaded by a human woman who sacrified her own integrity to protect Youkai, Hakurei Shrine, supposed to exterminate them for the good of humanity, between others. All of them tried to dominate the land causing incidents in different forms with selfish intentions but thanks to the Hakurei Maiden's efforts and her friends's help in many occasions, reforming some and stopping others from their bad ambitions was possible even if they didn't abandon all their initial convictions. Reimu have earned their respect by not entirely destroying the culprits and letting them to live once again.
Also, there's a Human Village in the middle of the field, protected by a powerful entity, she's not an ordinary person. Keine Kamishirasawa, the Beast of History. A humanoid woman disguised as a simple teacher whose true form is revealed at night when the full moon shines. Her real duty apart from taking care of humanity was watching over a Historic Scroll she owns to apply her powers in the most wise possible way.
When disguising as a human, her silver hair has blueish reflexes, the same color as her dress and her asian castle hat. The horns are hidden and nothing feels out of usual.
At the School, kids were going out of class forming rows.
Keine: Don't forget that this topic will come in some questions from the next exam! Now have some rest to assimilate today's lesson!
The Professor was very commited to her role, always making sure her pupils would study accuratedly to pass the test and even sacrifying some of her time to help the most troublesome ones. A kind smile could be seen on her vissage.
Keine: (Now, I'll take all the previous exams to correct them at home for tomorrow. A responsible adult must give some example to kids. Mokou must be waiting.)
Thinks while looking at the golden wedding ring on her right hand for some seconds. A couple of years before she finally got married with the lone human who became a phoenix swearing to protect her and cure the loneliness that she did suffer for centuries. After getting a big amount of tests made by her students, the Hakutaku puts them on her bag and starts flying outside. She doesn't even think on what kind of reaction could people had if they knew that her true form was the one of a beast. With her powerful scroll and the rest of the stuff starts travelling to home, crossing the field that leads to Bamboo Forest.
For a brief moment, sees a familiar face. It was a pink bob-haired night sparrow who was not very tall. A cute girl that runs a food Izakaya to satisfy hungry people of any species. Since her encounter with Reimu on the Imperishable Night Incident she has been changed drastically forgetting her hatred towards human race and stopped ambushing them at night. She's wearing today some sort of elegant black butler uniform with a round tophat and a sparrow-like gold pin put on her chest. The silver-haired woman is seen by her and she waves both hands.
Mystia: Miss Keineee!
Keine: Oh? Greetings Misty! Please, wait for me a second and I'll give you a proper interview.
The bird girl gives a shy smile as the teacher approaches. Keine is already marking her sheet of Mystia in the place that says "last day visited" like if she was another one of her students, taking it too seriously.
Mystia: You don't need to act like if you are in duty.
The silver-haired beast returns the gesture in a way that contrasts with her seriousness.
Keine: No, I need to give my best attetion to everyone. That's why I conduct a record with detailed observations. What do you need from me? I think that I can hardly teach you anything else since you managed to stop Yuyuko-Sama's hunger curse, your path to be a legendary chef is over. You already are known everywhere. Did you know that your efforts helped Gensokyo to be even more peaceful? Because people of every faction visit your place at night.
The sparrow looks down in a humble attitude, putting her index fingers together.
Mystia: It feels weird to be suddenly well-considered by even the big shots. And I don't need anything I was just wanting to say hi, Kyouko is helping me to expand the business even more and... errr... Miss Keine.
Her eyes went blank when suddenly some green flash occured. It was the Teacher's true form coming out, her blue did change to green including her clothes. Mystia points to the horns ornamented with cute red ribbons. But that wasn't the only thing that happens when Keine transforms: her attitude becomes more flexible and chaotic even if she's still responsible... in a rather borderline spot. Instintively shows a playful grin while moving her fluffy tail side to side.
Keine: Hey, Misty. I'm married already. Only Mokou can assist to my private lessons.
Obviously, she was joking only to see the sparrow's reaction, who went fully blushed and had even to cover her face for some seconds.
Mystia: N-No, is not that! It's just... your look and your personality!
Keine: Yeah yeah, this is a paranormal phenomenom, it only occurs with Full Moon but tonight wasn't... is not until twenty days. And in the sky there's one! And the sun as well. What's happening here? I'll pull the culprit's panties as a punishment.
Mystia: W-What a teacher! I mean- d-don't think in what I've said please!
Exclaims the sparrow shaking her hands in a hilarious manner. In response, without losing the grin on her face looks to her in a dominant perspective.
Keine: Show more respect, sparrow! This is an incident! And my disguise shouldn't be uncovered by those who don't know! We'll leave our small interview for tonight and I'll remember you to find anyone if needed.
Mystia: Of course! Do you need my schedule to know the opening sites? People are like crazy asking me to do it on their place.
Keine: It's obvious if you have become the Legendary Chef. But don't worry, my scroll knows everything. Even the moooost obscure things. Yes, including you. And there's no problem. Your secrets are safe with me. I'm still a responsible teacher who likes to archive everything.
For a moment Mystia looks carefully to the silver-green-haired Hakutaku and laughs with some circumnstance face.
Mystia: Sure, Miss Keine! (Responsible in that form? I doubt it.) See you later, and good luck!
Keine: Alright, let's find what's happening. But first...
The now transformed beast keeps flying through the trees until she reaches a small cabin in the middle of nowhere. It was a cozy place with two futons, some kitchenware, furniture to store clothes and plenty of things. An incredibly beautiful woman stands at the entrance. Her white blunt hair made into an enormous ponytail with a ribbon flows with the breeze. She was wearing red pants decorated with talismans and a white hakama. When she has her teacher in front, surrounds her with the arms, sighing of relief.
Mokou: Took you long enough. Even with this abnormality happening you still drink like if it was nothing huh? Do you come for... a "private lecture" in a moment like this?
The Hakutaku replies caressing her hair and letting herself to be carried away by the gentle heat of her hot body due her inner holy fire.
Keine: We can do it later, my beautiful blazing star. What about some investigation first? Someting is off even about my Archive.
Gets the Scroll of History, which is emanating some sort of violet vissible aura.
Mokou: Let's see what it says...
Keine: Looks like normal during the next weeks, and then it becomes blank.
They keep looking until reading the last paragraph.
Mokou: "So, the Monster sent by the Hakurei Spirits devoured Gensokyo and all of its inhabitants. No one could do anything to stop the Catastrophe caused as a punishment due to the Hakurei Maiden disobeying the Precepts."
And at the next part a terrifying blurry face could be seen in an infinite blackness with vicious and shiny red eyes. Below it, written with blood two words could be read.
Keine: "THE END." Is the first time I'm seeing this for so much eras... looks like is not just a bad quality prank. There's always multiple choices. Some of them lead to something good. And the rest tend to guide any person to a "bad ending". It seems like we are trapped. Everything is black and bloody.
The phoenix girl doesn't tend to look worried but this time she was clearly a bit upset.
Mokou: Someone is not happy about Gensokyo being calm it seems. Did Reimu really had superiors? I thought it was she alone with Suika-Chan. We should search for Yukari Yakumo. As a sage and Reimu's Danmaku Teacher, she should know something valuable. Your scroll doesn't specify very much, that's not normal.
Her wife nods twice while reading the Old Sage's whereabouts.
Keine: She's fighting "something" at Hakurei Shrine among with her shikigami Ran and Chen. Something? What's that something? We better hurry. The student's exams and our private lecture must wait a bit.
Both of them crack their fingers and nod one to the other before parting. Keine leaves her bag inside of a cupboard and they start flying as fast as they can. Once in Hakurei Temple's lower red Torii Gate, something very strange can be seen, like some sort of blurry black barrier separating the entrance from its exit. It was impossible to cross and Mokou tries to use her spell "Death of a Honest Man" to destroy it with a powerful white magical heat laser. Keine tries to use her "Sword of the Three Treasures", causing an enormous traditional steel hand-crafted broadsword to appear in order to cut the force field with a powerful danmaku magical slash.
Mokou: It regenerates too fast!
Keine: This seems useless... so we have to think that Reimu and the Yakumo Clan are trapped inside, eh?
Mokou: How many days are left for "THE END"?
Keine: Fourteen days. So we have two weeks to figure this out, and we'll need to gather all the help we can. Our enemy is a powerful one, probably matching Yukari's true full power. I have to admit that it sounds a bit scary, not even Reimu can match her in an all-out danmaku duel yet.
The Phoenix heavily sighs.
Mokou: That old youkai... if she was serious I could have a hard time too. And I don't know a thing about where to begin for dispelling this.
?: G-Giiiirls! *Hiccup*
A familiar childish voice could be heard from nearby. Suika Ibuki, the small copper-long-haired oni was on the ground, wounded with magical bullets judging for her burn marks. As drunk as always, seems like she tried to fight that "something" inside Hakurei Temple. Even with her true form, Keine reacts totally seriously in front of that heart-breaking scene.
Keine: What happened? Who did this?
Mokou: If we may enter somehow, we'll avenge you, little oni!
Suika: I... I... can't... *hiccup* Reimu... I-I'm sorry!
Then, while letting some tears go from her eyes she loses consciousness. The Phoenix was emiting a burning aura before the scene. She was visibly angry.
Mokou: Poor thing, what kind of garbage would dare to hurt a kid?
Keine: To learn about it we should nurse her.
Suddenly, a two-tailed black cat with some red fur and ribbons was flying by on a cart filled with Zombie Fairies and a foul corpse smell. One of them who was the boss wears a security construction helmet. They were forming a Pyramid in the front part of the vehicle and the one with the outer world-like helm was at the top of it. The cat transforms into a humanoid girl with a stunning blunt blood red soft mane made into two braids with bangs on the fringe. She was very cute for smelling like that. Is clearly a Necromancer due to the spirits surrounding her and the black dress. The blue fairies were doing some sort of curious and dramatically controlled maneuver to park the cart somewhere nearby. The leader of them holds two lights to indicate how to proceed and the rest would obey.
Orin: I think we found one, meow!
Keine: Wait, Rin. You shouldn't do it. We need her alive to know what did happen!
Mokou: Plus, I wouldn't let you to do it so... think about it.
The cat girl's ears vibrate a bit, thinking for a moment about what she saw. Even with the situation, she doesn't lose her cheerful smile, because even while holding dramatically sad memories from the ones she got away on their last moments, for the feline giving a gentle smile was important to make them feel better.
Orin: It would be sad to say goodbye. As always... honestly is too soon for her, I tend to help dead people to rest in peace before taking their carcass to Okuu-Chan. The sky is very strange, meow. And did we met before? You do know my name.
Keine: I'm just a Teacher and I know it because of my scroll. Honestly, this is bad. Instead of burning her we should take Suika to a doctor. Doctor Eirin concretely. Look, Hakurei Temple is sealed behind a dark and creepy barrier.
The Professor points the mentioned thing with an index finger. Rin and her Zombie Fairies react showing a shock gesture. Some of the minions would faint like if they were acting. But not.
Orin: I-I sense something horrible, nya... okay, no more word. Girls, get Suika in the cart! We go to Eientei!
Mokou: I don't like that place. Let me wait at home, otherwise... I could burn it. Kaguya is impossible to stand for me. Except for Reisen who seems a nice rabbit, the rest for me are no more than fake scum.
Her wife sighs heavily.
Keine: I suppose that it's too risky. It's better to call Reisen then. Rin, let's leave Suika at home.
The feline nods and then, they begin a flying trip to Keine and Mokou's small house, placing carefully the Oni on a futon. Mokou would stay with Orin and the Zombie Fairies watching over here and meanwhile the History Beast would pay a visit to Eientei as soon as possible before Suika's condition gets worse.
Once there, a bunny guard cuts the path with a menacing expression.
Moon Rabbit: You shall not pass without permission.
Keine: I'm not here to enter, if I wanted to do it you would have to bring the entire army to stop me. I have a patient in very serious condition and I'm requesting Doctor Reisen Undogein Inaba's help.
Moon Rabbit: Yeah and... why do I have to help the beast who did marry that phoenix?
The Teacher sighs and starts giggling as she shrugs. Her face acquires a shadowy tone.
Keine: Well, you are right. Why would you help an enemy who would attack if anyone tries to lay a finger on that phoenix? But by not helping me... you are not helping Suika, the small oni who lives at Hakurei Temple under the Maiden's protection. If she dies... what do you think Reimu would do if I tell that Lunarians didn't give any help when I've asked them. Ah, friendly reminder: not Lady Eirin or Princess Kaguya are able to defeat her. And if someone important for her like a little sister dies, she will KILL you next time for sure instead of just temporaly exterminating you. So~... you'll have to live with that. Goodbye, fellow rabbit, may your feet give you good luck~. Not to mention that offending Reimu would raise diplomatic tensions with the Yakumo Clan and Scarlet Devil Mansion. Do you really want the vampire to destroy you as well, or worse... the Gap Sage and her powerful kitsune Shikigami? It would be the end of Eientei.
Trembling with fear, Keine's convincing speech was effective. The rabbit extends a hand like if she was almost going to not reach bathroom.
Moon Rabbit: WAIT... NO! ANYTHING BUT THAT MONSTER HERE! THAT WOMAN HAS NO SENSE OF HUMOR AND IT'S SCARY! WAIT HERE, DON'T GO!
Keine: Okay~. Thanks for understanding, you did pass the test!
After some minutes, a gorgeous moon rabbit with a purple long mane, black elegant suit, a miniskirt with the same color as her hair and ruby eyes comes hilariously running at full speed like if she was getting late.
Reisen: I'm coming! Where's Suika?! I have to save that little one! When I did visit the Shrine she always has been very kind to me!
Keine: Relax and breath, cutie. Otherwise you won't have any chance to think. Just come home with me. Don't worry. The phoenix is aware of your different personality in comparison to the majority of your species.
They start flying to the Bamboo Forest's depths where everyone was waiting.
Reisen: You're right. Keine-Sensei, I have something to request in exchange of my services. I won't charge you any yen for helping a dear little friend. But I would like help with something.
Keine: What is it?
Reisen: We'll discuss it when Suika is safe again.
Keine: You don't consider it a matter of life and death. Well I can still read during the flight.
Gets her scroll and searches for Reisen's thinkings. "I love Youmu Konpaku" is written somewhere. A playful smile appears on the Hakutaku's face showing even her fangs.
Keine: Ooooh I see... it's a deal then. I'll help you to conquer Yuyuko-Sama's gardener.
A strong blush appears on the rabbit's cheeks.
Reisen: Your true form is a bit... unpredictable.
Keine: Don't worry, I'm still a responsible adult!
Reisen: And you say it after doing that!
Keine: I like to see your reactions. I'm not worried for now, you'll handle Suika's wounds without any problem. Your medic skills are better than ever, in fact... keep going like that and someday you could even match Lady Eirin.
Reisen: I hope so, because Medicine is meant to take care of your beloved ones.
Soon, they would reach their destination to heal the little alcoholic oni's bullet wounds and try to learn something about what's happening on Hakurei Shrine before starting to search a way of passing that ominous barrier. Learning any information not written by Keine's scroll was something crucial to avoid that terrible fate that would arrive in just two weeks. Keine was calculating every move on her head. The Hakutaku Form wouldn't make impossible to her acting like a responsible adult even if the chaotic instincts were trying to take the control.
Keine: (I have to thread carefully. So many nodes of different possible events... every second it passes many doors close. Several dead ends occur, and some of those doors are broken, leading to that horrifying "THE END" event. Who's that monster? It's like a nightmare. Even looking at those eyes for a mere second make me to feel uncomfortable. If I hadn't tried to convince that rabbit by force, If I did anything else, Suika would be dead for sure and we couldn't have learned anything making us too slow and leading with no solution to "THE END". Now, more than ever... I'm on the edge with every decission to make. Will I be up to this task? Because even if Mokou is by my side, it looks way worse than any final exam. I better study hard!)
