Originally when Paxian were created at the beginning of the Great Nuclear War or as others would call it World War 3, the artificial race was designed to command armies of drones and even create more war machines as intended by their original creators. Each Paxian were made of about 3.5 petabytes of data, 1 more petabyte than the average human brain, in terms of memory capacity.
For Kat, normally when she 'hops' from Dean's watch into a door panel or terminal, its a temporary wireless connection coming from his watch. If she was going to full dive into the building's system, she would need to access the computer systems on the ground floor or risk overloading the wirings.
In layman's terms, it was like a platforming game where the platforms would disappear after stepping on them for too long and the person would need to continuously move until they reach safety.
Normally, Kat wouldn't need to do this if the Academy's central network was up and running, allowing her to wirelessly connect with any devices or access rooms like her many attempts on sneaking into Melanie's room....out of scientific curiosity of course. It was Jen's fault for making Kat incredibly curious back then.
So now, Kat was sending her full self into the wires and racing to the computers in the Student Housing Office.
From her point of view, Kat was flying at mock speed as the wires were barely holding together behind her. The inside world was pink, illuminated by her presence as the bright color drove the lonely darkness away.
'Should be to the right'
And right she was as Kat finally got access to the building's systems, she did a system analysis scanning for any damages were accessing the security footages.
Only to find out...
'Huh? All of the footages were wiped out along with the backup as if it never existed.'
Then there was more bad news...
'Why are all main powers being diverted somewhere'
She couldn't find out where the power was being transferred to as the building's system was isolated due to the inactive central system. Luckily there was backup power so that Kat can turn the lights on and use the cameras to hop into the inactive cleaning drones.
Kat first decided to hop into the drones while staying in sleep mode and perform her modifications. The chemical mixings were for later when Dean came into the picture and gain aggro from the rest of the floor.
All the available drones were now following her command, and the ones with self-destruct were enabled.
The whole process took less than a second to get the dozen of drones under Kat's command. Once they were, Kat proceeded to flick the light switches on for better visibility for Dean.
Flick!
"Huh why the lights one?"
"Did boss lady do it?"
"Dumbasses we got survivors preparing to attack us"
"Oh from the last 3 floors probably, they didn't check in weirdly"
There were mixed reactions from confusion to wariness, but their reactions were all the same when they saw the hover Roombas appearing near them.
"Who turned on the cleaning drones"
"We wiping the blood off the floor finally?"
"Fufufu these cute drones makes me wanna attach a head on the top"
"Let's do it then"
As one fiend kneeled down in front of one of the Roombas with a severed head in their hands, the drone started heating up and the sensors started to glow bright red until-
BOOM!!!
-it exploded and disintegrated the fiend completely along with taking out two more with them. The explosive radius was about 0.5 meter and that half a meter was destructive enough to completely destroy the drone and the 3 fiends around it, but as the explosive was intended to ward off tampering, the shockwave was minimal at best.
"FUCK WE'RE UNDER ATTACK"
"GET AWAY FROM THE DRONES"
Dean sprung the door open after peeking through the slit waiting for the signal. He then proceed to cut horizontally on the nearby husks to slow them down as he charged after the stunned fiends.
Kat, meanwhile, commanded the drones to start mixing their chemicals while activating the building's emergency protocol. There was only enough power to seal the building to prevent possible reinforcements from coming in.
To counteract this, Kat began to cut power in non-essential areas of the ground floor such as lights in parts of the floor where there wasn't any fighting or unused computers.
The extra juice allowed Kat to activate one of the four defense turrets in the hallways. Immediately, she steady her digital beating heart and took a deep breath as she aimed the turret on the fiends and husks coming from Dean's flank.
BANG BANG BANG
Dean heard the gunshots as he finished chopping 5 surprised fiends in quick successions. He looked up to see one gun turret appearing out of the ceiling taking out the fiends while crippling the husks.
The fiends reacted by sending attacks towards the turret but they were intercepted by a floating table powered by Dean's quick thinking.
Dean then proceeded to use his telekinesis on the unused melee weapons on the floor and sent it towards his enemies.
Some were impaled.
Some were sliced up.
Many others manage to deflect them and counter attack with their own abilities.
Dean dodged and quickly dived to cover behind the wide pillar in the middle of the floor.
The pillar was holding up well against wind attacks, lightning bolts, and even explosive throwing knives.
He looked to his left and saw a few Roombas on standby as if Kat ordered them to wait for more enemies to get near. Dean then peaked around the corner as the fiends finished off the gun turret and saw about 6 of them grouped up.
'Grouped up just like the bugs on that last internship minus Melanie instantly burning them'
Dean quickly thought of his first encounter with the Xenonoids, of course it was a small scout group that was easy enough for Academy students to deal with.
But brushing that thought away as it appeared, Dean telekinetically lifted one of the Roombas while Kat commanded it to explode in proximity, and sent it straight towards the group as their attention was drawn to another turret popping out of the ceiling.
BOOM!!!
The explosion....was a success as the smell of burning flesh hit Dean's nose causing him to cover it quickly.
Despite being paired with Melanie many times on school assignments or their internship together, he could never get used to burning human flesh. The smell was revolting and even more when rotting flesh of the husks were involved.
Dean gagged a little but he couldn't afford to do more than gag as there were still dozens of enemies left.
He got up while leaning against the pillar and breathe through his mouth.
It helped a little but not by much.
Dean looked over and saw dozens of fiends and husks coming through as the 2nd gun turret was taken down.
[DEAN, THE REST OF THE DRONES ARE COMBAT READY]
Dean nodded in response and charged into the horde....this time with cleaning drones armed with various deadly weapons.

A/N: hehe I upgraded and nerfed Kat in one chapter.
One today and gonna start releasing chapters on timers starting with this one. Gives me time to edit some mistakes before release.
