Dancing in a daydream

▪︎ An object will remain in its state of motion unless acted upon by a force ▪︎

Devlin had entered one of the rooms and just stared at the empty room. He walked to the corner and sat down, staring at the room, seeming lost in thoughts.

He rubbed his head, taking a deep breath.

"I should see what I remember.. everything is just causing me a headache." He spoke to himself, closing his eyes.

His life slowly flashed before his eyes, despite having gaps in it. His eyes suddenly opened wide in horror, realising something he didn't think of till now.

"I didn't meet Zero till two decades later, so it means she might not even be born! Or at least smart enough.." He began rambling on whatever is in mind, "I was at Blizwall before the barrier collapsed.. and now is where I will slowly learn more about how Blizwall is run."

He held his head, "I didn't meet Felix till a decade later! The future is.." His arms dropped beside him as he sighed, leaving the room silent.

Loneliest was something Devlin had experienced for the longest time, but it was also something he disliked the most.

He slowly got up and walked towards the middle of the room. He closed his eyes and held his arms out, like he was holding someone.

"Just you and me, dancing in a daydream, you and me dancing lost in the clouds." He began moving while seeming to sing something.

In his vision, a young woman who looked around eighteen danced in his arms, having the brightest grin ever opposite him is Devlin in his eighteen.

She chuckled, /"I guess all that training work."/

He smiled, /"Training to dance, how weird is that?"/

/"Let's dance more often, so the training doesn't go to waste."/ She replied, causing him to chuckle.

Both of them weren't dancing in any fancy ballroom but were just slow dancing in their living room wearing their pyjamas.

There was music playing in the background, "If I turn the page, will I lose my shadow?"

It felt as if the whole world didn't matter when they danced with each other.

He spun her around, and she spinned like she was a fairy dancing in the air. Her dark green hair flowed along like leaves, and she smiled like the sun.

The music slowly ended, as they had their forehead touching each other. He's lost in her emerald green eyes, as she's lost in his eyes.

"Just you and me dancing in a daydream, don't want to wake up now. Don't wanna wake up now.. don't wanna wake up now.."

His head lowered, staring at the ground. Tears flowed down his cheeks as he sniffed.

"Will she love me again?" His arm dropped by his side, "Dex seems to hate me, Felix is just a stranger now.."

He wiped away his tears, "It's a different life now.. everyone I know. Considered them gone." He clenched his fist, "Focus on what you came back for, closing the rift. Preventing the fall of humanity."

"Wish to forget the past?" Behind him stood the masked man, like it was waiting the whole time.

"The past is what made me who I am." He forced a smirk on his face, "I thought you've said that the next time I will see you, is-."

"My prediction is a little off," it stepped back, "But let time tell if it's a loss." And disappeared like the wind.

A sweat dripped down Devlin's forehead as he rushed out of the room.

He saw Felix running towards him with fear in his eyes, which was rare even for Devlin since he rarely displayed any emotions.

"I need your help in surgery." Felix quickly told Devlin, "The robots can't help in this surgery."

"Surge what now?" Devlin couldn't process what he heard since he had never done surgery in his lifetime before.

"You know how to use a system, yes?" Felix sounded urgent, but he knew it's more important for Devlin to understand.

"Yep." Devlin nodded.

"I will grant you temporary access to my system, and you just have to grab the tools and hand them over via the system message. Got that?" He felt hopeful that Devlin understood what he was saying.

Devlin nodded, and Felix gave Devlin access to his system temporarily, "Let's go."

Both of them rushed into the room, and Devlin could see all the tools labels on the table, "Woah."

"Wear this." Felix threw a mask towards Devlin. He caught it and looked at the mask. Recognising it almost immediately, he gave a weary smile and placed it on.

The mask functions like a normal face mask, but this one also works as a sound absorber to not irritate Felix's ears.

Seeing him put on without any questions, Felix wore his own face mask and quickly went to the corner that had a curtain covering it, indicating to Devlin to bring the tools along. Devlin obliged and pushed the hovering tray over.

The curtain opened, and his eyes opened with horror, "Zita!" His voice muffled when spoken out.

"Glove." Felix ordered, leaving Devlin unable to dewal any further on what happened.

The surgery commenced, and as Devlin passed Felix any tools he needed, in his mind, he wondered what happened.
