Turning into a Snack

"Staying back after school is any students worst nightmare. Like the normal hours of school is already quite hell on its own now I have to stick back again?"Aurora complained in annoyance.

"You did punch the guy?. Which I totally dig by the way but you could have let him handle it ain't that what boys are for and all" Venna stated pointing to me. I glared but kept silent.

"Yeah. No" Aurora shook her head. " Letting him handle it could have been worse. " She argued throwing a quick glance my way before looking forward again.

"Really?. What was he gonna do that's worse than a cold knock out punch?" Venna queried with a scoff obviously not believing I could do any worse. I raised an eyebrow at her somehow feeling wronged.

"She's right though. I do dig that punch. Couldn't have done it better you know.". I praised effectively throwing off the question and stopping the souring mood.

"I thought I'd killed him for a second but was too pissed to care though."she mumbled quietly but I still caught it.

"What'd he even say about you that would piss  you off so much like that? And you still let a girl be your knightess." Venna added Aurora's eyes blazed over rage reflecting through them.

"It wasn't what he said about me " was all I said not bothering to react as hard it was. Venna simply scoffed again, I felt she was doing that alot now, then her eyes widened. Obviously her brain had managed o catch up with the events, her fists balled next as she grumbled.

"I'm so having his head when next I see him " she bit out.

"Nice to know we all want him dead. Now wait in line missy I call dibs. " Aurora said sweetly all the anger still there but simmered down. I chuckled feeling a bit of pity for the dude and it wasn't even because of Aurora. more like because of Venna. The girl gave me the 'not to be messes with' vibes.

"Where's Benjamin?" Aurora asked.

"Who's that?" Venna inquired.

"He's best friend... " She replied.

"...who's a pain in the ass" I finished.

"Yeah, like someone I know " Aurora piped. Venna rolled her eyes before making a pouty face.

"You still love me girly." She stated grabbing at Aurora in a tight hug while said girl made a face like she was considering it.

*Nah. Not to sure"

"Girl, if I catch you with any other girl I'm gonna beat her ass down till she loses them ." Venna playfully threatened though I wondered how serious she could be.

"Geez . Possessive much " She muttered as we entered the theater hall and stared at the few students mulling around. Some were detention lads like us others were actual volunteers.

"Who volunteers for stuff like this.?" I asked staring in shock at the volunteers.

"Venna." Aurora deadpanned.

"What I gotta watch your ass." She replied. Aurora gave her a glance which Venna returned both doing the bestfriend silent conversation that Benjamin and I usually did. Watching some others do it I finally realized why ma was usually annoyed whenever Benjamin and I had did it in front of her. Especially if we three were in a conversation. It felt infuriating.

"I'm gonna find the coordinator, see you both when you're done with ..." I waved my hands at their faces. " ...whatever this is".

I walked away from them searchimg for the coordinator. My eyes found him at the corner carrying a clipboard and sending out instructions around him as he sat atop a tall stool. His black hair fighting for position over his eyes with the large rimmed spectacles.

"Sire, here to help." I stated on reaching him.

"Nah you're here on detention right?" he corrected.

"What's the difference?" I asked perplexed.

"Those volunteered to help." He pointed to the volunteer group."You are here as a punishment. So punishment you are getting. Now get up behind the curtains and help with the gear." I groaned as I turned heading for the assignment.

We worked nonstop for an hour repairing, cleaning and testing gear to make sure they were in good condition. The coordinator Mr John had me by the stage now testing out the curtains the wheel was still rusty though and another kid was busy oiling the cogs.

"Asher!" Aurora's voice whispered to me from across the room where she sat helping with paint work for the posters.

"What's up Red?. Bored already?". I asked feeling bored myself.

"Well. No. But if you are then I guess this is gonna be neat. " She paused a bit waiting till I turned and spotted her, her eyes a flaring red even from this distance. "Hungry. Can't control. It's back Ash!".

"Shit." I cursed out loud. The kids next to me looked my way eyes curious. Ignoring them I walked down to her.

"Hey kid don't leave your post?." Mr John ordered as he looked my direction from his station on the stool.

"Be right back sir. Gotta check on something." I responded without halting my advance to Aurora. My eyes never leaving her as I strode over to where she sat hurriedly.

"Asher, you done with your side yet" Venna asked walking over to stand in front of me, her eyes held a firm annoyance. At that moment I didn't even get it again all my attention firmly focused on a hunched over Aurora who used her hair to cover up her face a bit hiding her blazing red eyes.. So without a glance at Venna I just walked round her barely noting the now annoyed look on her face.

"Where the hell do you..."

"Oh shut it Venna ..!" I yelled at her my eyes blazing a sharp gold. She froze shocked as she stepped back a bit shock written on her face. Not bothering on whatever was running through her head at the moment I just turned my focus Aurora.

"Get away from my bestfriend you jerk." She tugged me back venom on her face obviously the gold eyes hadn't fazed her much. She'd clearly written it off as a trick of the light or something eitherway at the moment anger was rising and the last thing anyone needed was a thirsty vampire and an angry wolf in one room. So I pushed back or atleast tried pushing back the feeling.

"What's your problem?" I fired my anger still rising even with my attempt once I looked to Aurora. Her face was a ghastly white as she seemed to be struggling with something. Her eyes kept flashing red and then back to hazel.

"My problem is boys like you that sweep in at moments like this to take advantage. Claiming knight in shining steel" Venna spat her dark eyes tearing through me like claws.

'Wasn't it armor' I thought then shook my head.

"What. What the f**k do you mean?" I glanced at her then back at Aurora. "Not the time for this Venna she..."

"Oh shut it. What, you care about her, or getting in her pants?. You've not even know her longer than a week and you already like her. " She spat out obviously disgusted. My hands clenched and unclenched, this girl was seriously not helping matters, I gazed down at Aurora, I watched her hand twitch and her eyes brighten red.

"So what you gonna be her nice good gentleman until she's fallen for you, then like all horny boys you'll just use and ..." I cut her off with a heavy growl that I didn't care sounded way more animalistic than human then closing the distance between us I brushed past her roughly and moved in on he trembling vampire. Squatting beside her I held her hand in mine and held a breath, she was cold, freezing cold.

"Get your hands off her." Venna made a tug at my shoulder and I burst my irises burning gold yet again, turning I grabbed her and bending her over till she was looking down at Aurora who looked down trying to avoid Venna spotting the fluctuating eye color.

"She's freezing up". I stated calmly contradicting the feeling of anger in me. Then pushed her aside roughly my annoyance having grown to the point I didn't even realize I was shoving a girl. It took everything not to glare at her and risk my eyes. Once could be a trick of the light. ,twice was well suspicious and curious. Focusing back to AuroraI put an arm around her as she kept twitching helping her to stand as I kept am arm around her back to hold her from falling.

Venna was at her other side instantly as she put a hand to her forehead.

"Gosh your freezing Delores, and you're paler." She exclaimed.

"What's going on? Is she alright she looks pale?". Mr John spoke from behind us. I turned to note that half the students were standing watching while the rest were drawing closer.

"I think she's got the cold, she's freezing" I lied quickly. "I'm gonna bring her home"I stated.

"You both trying to skip detention with this, nice try but I don't think so" he deadpanned. I'd had it, anger was something I rarely felt but in these short days I had gotten angry quite a lot and it felt like I would break something and Mr John was beginning to look breakable. I made to move towards him but Aurora's hand grabbed the front of my jacket and held me in place. Even cold and pale she was still strong.

"Don't" she muttered weakly a strain in her voice. " We need to go, it burns.. like.. like last time". She spoked up at me and I gasped, the corners of her eyes we're blackening, red veins spreading down her pale face and the red iris was now prominent and unwavering.

"I don't know how long I can hold out Ash. I can smell them all" I glanced up at Venna who had heard her, her eyes crinkling in confusion. Fortunately she stood to the other side and Aurora was facing me her red hair covering up the side of her face.

"Go get her car Venna I'll bring her". I butted in before she began throwing questions. She eyed me now suspiciously then looked at Aurora the ayaoi. It seemed she didn't trust me at all. All the while she had simply smiled at me for Aurora.

"Not now. She's freezing and we gotta get her home. If you don't trust me then trust her, she trusts me " I tried looking for ways to get rid of her .

"I warned her about George, so don't blame me if my trust for her is not big enough to extend to you" she snapped her eyes swimming with distrust.

"Not now Venna. What am I gonna do here exactly? . Just get the car okay. " I argued. She looked from me to Aurora who was now breathing heavily.

"Venna, go get the fucking car" Aurora hissed out. Her voice sounded more like a snarl than a voice . Her left hand extending with the keys to Venna. My eyes widened as I sighted the claws but watched as Venna barely noticed them. Taking the keys she turned and jogged out her black hair bouncing with the movement.

"Alright let's go". I picked her up bridal style and leaned her head on my shoulder but she just moved back.

"No.... You smell good...  neck..too close." She slurred obviously going delirious. Should it have been this fast, the blood urge.

"Would think you'd have more time to get blood without almost shutting down if your urge came back now. ?" I muttered. She remained silent her hand wrapping around my neck to hold herself up but saying nothing.

"Hey kid one of you should stay ..  " I turned and glared at him from the side of my eyes.

"Be back later sir." I muttered then continued out the door.

"The urge is ...always there. I can always sense it you know,. the blood...in everything and everyone. Calls out every time. " I turned heading back to the field area instead of the garage.

"But it's different now. I feel .. feel like I did the first night... Like I'm gonna burn. " She said weakly.

"You're freezing Red, I doubt you'll burn " I assured.

"I can't kill anyone Ash. Not again. " Her head drew closer to my neck, she halted a bit then came more closer her breath tickling my neck. Then she pulled back hard almost like it had taken everything to pull away. We got to the bleachers and I sat down on the lower stands and held her there. I contemplated it for a while.

I could either get over my fear of the pain, change and go hunt something. But I doubt Venna would wait, she'd probably take Aurora away and then ripped apart. Giving Aurora a heart break. Other option was to find her someone to drink from well more like..'Great'.

"It's okay Red. You need it."I assured her as I guided her head back to my neck.

"You mean ..." she halted realizing what I was proposing then shook her head refusing.

"I can't control myself Ash. What if.. what if..."

"You kill me?. Won't happen girl, I'm a wolf now remember, I'll heal.". I answered with a smile she couldn't see her eyes were screwed so tight I was certain it hurt her.

"But, I don't think you can heal from blood loss."she argued. I looked down to see her balling her hands in pain or in restraint I wasn't sure.

"Girl. You either bite me and get the blood you need or I'll slit my wrists and force the blood down your throat. Eitherway you're taking it, so choose" I snapped the worry evident in my voice.

"But...  " She tried again but I growled sharply cutting her off.

"Together. We get through this shit together. You said that. I'm doing my part now get on with it"Her eyes shut tightly then drifted open before she quickly made for my neck. Helping her I tilted my head to the right exposing my neck to her more. She hovered her breath tickling my neck as she fought the urge some more.

"What if... what if I don't... can't... stop?" She asked hunger and worry in her tone.

"Then you don't stop." I said. " But I trust you to" I finished.

"Thanks"

She didn't wait anymore as she bit down hard on my neck a wince slippimg out my lips. I felt it literally leaving my body as she drank it down. Her hands held on to my head keeping it in place and the other around my back and held my right shoulder. She bit down harder as my face twisted in pain as my hands balled into fists to endure.

I felt myself slipping slowly as she drank, my vision swimming and dancing around.  Delirium set in quickly and black spots entered my vision as I blinked trying to get concentration back I watched as lights bent and turned around me and as shapes blurred and grew tinier or bigger. I heard things laughter and noise, ringing and a voice. Calling, it called out a name. It sounded familiar and I listened trying to hear it. It came again loud but faint , then again as I followed as best as I could then it came again louder this time and I heared it clearly my name but who was calling. The call came again the voice familiar and I reached for it .

"Asher!" My eyes shut open, hazel eyes looking down at me as relief flooded them. A hand went to wipe water off them as I looked trying to patch things together.

"Hey you." I said wondering why she was crying. She just hit my chest once, then twice then continued till I weakly stopped her.

"Thought I killed you" she buried her face into her hands.

"Not possible Red. "I chuckled.

"Not funny. was listening to your heart beat as I drank so I'd be sure I hadn't over done it. Just slipped up and lost focus then suddenly realize I could't hear your heartbeat again." She choked out scattering her head. "You realize how scared I was, thought I killed you damn it." She shouted. I winced but then tried standing to realize she was still straddling me.

"Only thing that'll kill me is your weight. You're crushing me Red." I mocked my head pounding slightly. She stopped crying instantly and looked at me then slowly got up before she put both hands on her hips and spoke.

"Did you just call me fat?" She asked making me freeze.

What was that Benjamin said about girls again. My mind volunteered a memory roll as it flashed down my mental eye. Never ever make comments that say, look or seem like you are calling or referring to her as fat. Well shit.

I looked up slowly as I gulped my vision somehow clearing nicely while I stood to my feet.

"Uhm. I was ... " I kept my mouth closed up when she hugged me.

"Call me fat again," she started as she looked up at me with a cold look " and you will die, slowly". She finished then smiled.

"Thank you. For the blood. " She added before she shifted.

"You do realize you meed to figure this blood thing out right.". I asked as I put an arm around her letting her help me move.

"Me?. What about to... together?". She asked. I rolled my eyes and found my vision swimming lightly again.

"Yeah yeah. " I muttered. "let's go find Venna before she thinks I killed you " I mused an annoyance starting to return.

"Sorry about Venna." She spoke looking up at me.  "She's just always looking out for me. Frankly with how protective she is I'm shocked George is still alive". She joked a smile lighting her face.

"Oh that's still being arranged ". We both turned to look at the said girl standing and watching us with Aurora's car keys jingling off her fingers.

"I just haven't gotten to it yet since it'll point to you, so letting things chill down for now." She finished. We just stared at her without a word.

"Well since I still obviously have the platform, let's see. How are you well, okay now and he's looking like he got dragged outta hell. And don't lie course I heard her clearly shout about how you almost died and how she almost did it". She stopped talking looking at us expectantly.

My gaze dropped to Aurora's who seems to sense this and looked back up at me. The unspoken question passing through our gazes. What do we do now?.

I think I like Venna more than Aurora.

Really thinking about this.
